DDS Boy Type

I thought this should be a separate topic from the Rin/Len discussion. Here we can discuss the DDS boy body. Also. I was looking at the photos and I thought, is that a new head sculpt or is that how Len looks blank? Would Volks really photograph a limited DD blank like that? It doesn't look like any of the current standards including DDH-09 and DDH-10. I didn't see that mentioned so far, so I thought I'd bring it up.

They photograph limiteds blank surprisingly often. The semi-white advertisements, when it was new, seems to have a few blank limiteds in there. So it wouldn't surprise me if that was Len, just blank.

 

Oh, interesting! The blank sculpt has a frowny expression compared to Len, but I guess the difference there could be due to his face-up.

As someone who had serious, serious doubts I'm happy Volks didn't cop-out on making this body. Sure, it only really fits the feminine boys (I.e. Len) but it is a step in a new and exciting direction. I hope to see them slowly broaden the range of body types for the boys like they do for the girls!

 

I'd really die for a 65cm one similar to their SD17 bodies. Those are positively the best. o3o

But I'mma not keep my hopes up cause I mean...look how long it took us to get here!

I know a lot of people complained that Eiji wasn't tall enough because they wanted him notably taller than their DD/Smartdoll girls (didnt bother me though) so if the DDS boy does well enough, hopefully we'll get a bigger one too.

I'm really happy with this body though! Volks conveniently left out whether they're planning on selling it extra but if they're seriously only limiting it to a lottery doll they really done goofed a thousand times over.

It wouldn't be the first, second or third time they'd have made special lottery-only things that have never made it into the mainstream. WS MDD's, the tan DD Dy (Kanu?), Yoko's special torso... > 3 >

As much as I'd like it happen, Uutil it actually does I'm not very hopeful.

It's interesting that they haven't shown many hands. On that page it's nothing but fists, and in the first Len reveal his hands were behind his head. Machine translation for Len's product page says,

 

DDS "kagamine Len" the hand (deckhand Ver.) (DDII-H-06B) is adopted. In addition, Special Edition nail painting.

 

So that's a new line of hands I guess (the B).

Deka hands already exist, they're the larger hands.

I hope to see them slowly broaden the range of body types for the boys like they do for the girls!

I mean I love the new boy body I really do, it's much better than the smart doll eiji in my option but I would like it a bit buffer, especially around the arms lol.

I should have Googled first The B line are for all the large hands. That makes sense to use actually because they're not particularly feminine.

I hope they make this body standard down the line, there are plenty of young teen and/or shorter guys this body would suit decently. (Ed Elric anyone? )

 

Still also agree it'd be awesome to have a tall dude down the line too--especially one that can use either SD13B or SD17B clothes, because it's looking like the DDSB is going to be a bitch to shop for.

I agree. If they do make a larger and more mature boy...I just hope with all my might that he won't be muscular. I know most probably don't consider Eiji's body to be buff or anything, but even he's too muscular for me to ever buy. Basically for me, if it has abs, I won't buy it. I like my male characters mostly flat in the stomach area(even if I'm not seeing it 90% of the time) and slender in build. But maybe that's just me. I know most others prefer muscles.

Yeah, I recall it was tricky for a good couple years to get stuff that fit DDDy, too--except that at least they can share some SD16 girl items. >.< Hopefully once Len gets to owners, someone can measure him and can tell us whether things like Soul Doll Vito or Model Delf clothes have the slightest chance of fitting. . .

Are there any companies that make male dolls in a similar size? Otherwise it's kind of a chicken & egg problem until they build up the market. Like, if they've only sold 500 Len dolls there's not much point of selling more than 500 of a single outfit, let alone several outfits

Or they're just going to release a bunch of unisex stuff for the DDS line, which is the most profitable thing to do right now. At least they popularized SS busts with Miku d(^_^')

 

I always thought they gave Miku that bust to make it a popular size, I still think the S bust suits her better. If they only released the SS bust with a couple limited models (to date I think Chihaya is the only other one) and made it just an optional part, I doubt it'd get much traction. Since Miku they've made a lot of clothing that's SS-S or M only, but before that the bulk of stuff was like M-L.

Come to think of it, a lot of Volks clothing is labelled as fitting "SD girl and boy" so in that sense those outfits are unisex.

I was looking at some of the higher resolution scans, and some of the outfits state that they fit DDS (SS/S/M/L/B), including a few dresses as well as some pants/shorts outfits.

They've sculpted a lot of new pieces for him, including new hands it appears, which they haven't done for any other doll with one-off parts. Though they could take their time to keep it feeling exclusive for lottery winners. It's hard to say when he'd be available- for example Kos-Mos was the first SWS doll announced and they released SWS parts before the Xenosaga pre-orders even arrived, but one-piece bodies took at least a year before appearing as standards.

I think it's interesting that the SD13B outfits aren't listed for DDS B even if they're cross listed for DDS. I'm wondering if it has to do with hip size.

 

I like that there are clothes that will fit them already though, especially since I was wanting to use dresses as well if they were possible.

That would be nice. Maybe they could make people happy and do like a snow len/rin for winter.

 

Miki and Haruka were the first ones I thought. Weren't they before Melty was released?

Oh yeah, they were a few months before Melty. I didn't like them very much so I didn't pay much attention!
