DDS Boy Type

Horrible news everyone! Future "boy types" bodies might not happen if not enough voices are heard. just got this email from volks jp regarding my question about it.

 

"As of today, the next release of “DDS Boy Type” has not been decided yet.

The releases of it as a Standard Model, a Base Body, and optional parts have not been confirmed yet, too.

Thank you very much for sending us your request.

 

As this is a newly-developed body, and just released as “DDS Kagamine Len” this summer, the future development has not been settled yet.

 

We are sorry that we cannot give you the details now, but please look forward to our future announcement.

 

We are developing Dollfie Dream® based on the opinions and requests from our customers.

Sorry but there's NO WAY Volks won't make any more boy bodies.... either as character dolls or as a general base body. With all the research and development of doing the vinyl parts for him as well as making molds for the heads, torso and other bits, if they DIDN'T make more boys then they would have just wasted literally tens of thousands of dollars.

 

A while back people were asking Danny Choo about making more head molds, this was when Eiji was first being prototyped, and he said that each head mold for the vinyl heads ran close to 20,000 USD. So if Volks even pays half that for molds for things, they'd be out 50 grand right out the gate. Volks does things that we think are kind of stupid sometimes but they've been around a long time and they're NOT going to just throw money away on things like this.

 

If anything, their reply to you is intentionally vague so they can do whatever they like and say later that they were just covering their butts. We've seen them say one thing and do another many times now so for them to try and play dumb with the boy bodies is on par with how they do things.

 

So don't give up hope, I'm sure they'll release plenty of boys and boy bodies in the future.

OK... that seems odd as people have been begging them for male DD bodies for years. This email sounds really indecisive. Did they not get many Len pre orders? If that's the case I blame them entirely for not holding the pre-order event as usual. Since they asked for feedback maybe it would be good for us who want the body to become standard (and more male characters) to email them.

I hope that's the reason for her reply. I've pretty much giving up on understanding Volks! I also thought when Len and Rin were announced in Volks News there was a image of a DDS 09 male/boy head?

This is just typical Japanese customer service -- they won't say something is happening unless it's already in production at their manufacturer. It's far worse to promise something + not deliver than to give a wishy-washy answer.

 

Honestly, reading the response, it sounds like DDS boy bodies are in the pipeline but they don't have a firm release date yet. And honestly, even if they did have a release date, they wouldn't share it via email: big releases are always announced via official channels, not via customer service.

Isn't this the copypasted response they're giving everyone though?

 

And yeah, Japanese companies kind of have this thing about not confirming anything unless its 100% guaranteed. They like to keep their cards close to their chest. We're kinda spoiled by Danny and how transparent he is tbh (not that it's a bad thing, the secrecy drives me crazy tbh).

I can understand why they do it, but it's still frustrating.

 

Anyway I dont think anyone has to worry about there not being more boy bodies from the sheer amount of people who preordered Len at nagoya and entered the lottery for him. They'd never make a new body if they didnt intend to do more with it...at least I certainly don't think they would. They even did the mini feature on it in Volks News 69, featuring pics of it with blank heads/standard heads, not Lens. I don't think they've ever encouraged people to buy a doll solely for the body before so I very much doubt we were meant to take that feature as 'if you buy Len and only if you buy Len you get this and can use it with other heads'. The reply is more of a 'cant confirm or deny' thing. I personally think it's certain, but what isn't certain is when. It could be ages till we hear anything else, it could be next week. Always a fun gambling time with Volks.

Hopefully it is just pr talk because right now I really want this body. Kinda kicking myself for not entering the lottery or participating on split when i had the chance. T-T
