DD Fes 2016 - Ltd Preorder announcement Soon

Ah, that'd be awesome! But Azone did a 50cm Utena and she wasn't that popular... and the most recent Anthy figure got cancelled, so not much hope there either. Anything shoujo like Sailor Moon or CCS seems less likely since Volks likes to target DD to male collectors in Japan

ooooh! Here's an idea!! A Touhou game is finally rolling to the West, perhaps Volks has secured a merch license and we'll have one of those? officially?

but Volks have already released a bunch of Touhous? That's not really that special. I cant think of any other 'big' characters in Touhou that would warrant such fanfare, unless it's Flandre. That'd be pretty cute actually, and I always found it weird that there isnt one of her.

 

As long as we keep guessing here at least one of us has to guess right, right?

Going to admit, I'm still a little shocked they haven't done a Valkyria Chronicles doll yet (though I don't think they'd be a preorder) when they do the tank models. They did do a Charagumin of Alicia, but, small chance still.

 

I've been checking through the Charagumin (warning some NSFW with Supersonico) because sometimes they'll do those as DD's as well. Now, they did do a Saber Bride Charagumin, so I don't know how that would possibly factor into things. I mean they haven't done a SWS Saber yet -_-. But there's also Jeanne and Telos as ones I could see as being popular. Though, still going to admit, of the ones in the Charagumin line they haven't done I'd still prefer Alicia Melchiott, Etna from Disgaea or Lina Inverse. All ones I know would be super long shots.

Completely unlikely, but I'd looove to see something from either Xenoblade (Elma or Melia!). That they did Xenosaga has nothing to do with Xenoblade because that was Namco exploiting (thankfully!) the Xenosaga property as long as they could, and Monolith Software is owned by Nintendo now. If it's Nintendo, going by their current trends they're more likely to do Fire Emblem or Kirby. Well, any of Yusuke Kozaki's Fire Emblem characters would be great.

foo, Omg yes, I would love to see Melia as a DD! Too bad that it's most likely an impossible wish... or, well, I don't know if Xenoblade Chronicles has a large fanbase in Japan or not, but I haven't really met anyone who even knows it, let alone has played it (apart from my brother who introduced me to the game in the first place). Glad to have found another Xenoblade fan! ♥

That was 3 years ago. They could also just do the school uniform version, instead too.

There's been overlap with Volks and Azone releases before - Saber and Rin both got 1/3 releases, so it's not out of the question- but maybe only possible for hugely popular characters like those.

Okay, so I'm probably wrong, but what if it's not a new character at all? We know they're willing to do preorder releases of previous girls, such as Miku and the Sabers.

 

What if it's a highly sought-after release? Such as Tamaki, Kanu, Beatrice, or heck, even Sasara.

I would also cry if Kanu was rereleased, but out of desperation, becouse I promised myself that Miku would be my only Dollfie (this hobby is too expensive here in Brazil) but I dont know if my willpower would be able to resist Kanu.

I actually wouldn't mind another Miku to be perfectly honest. She has so many versions and Snow Miku wasn't (personally) very exciting compared to nearly every other Miku design out there. It'd be neat to see a more elaborate or unique Miku such as one of the racing ones or one from the previous Snow design contest. But who knows, apparently they're still trying to get rid of all their other Miku's xD

Generally pre-order projects are dolls that would be especially popular with higher than usual licence fees. Also they tend to be very popular amongst the male demographic or equally popular to both genders. For this reason I'd say it would be very unlikely to see a sailor moon pre-order for example. More Vocaloid is probably likely in the form of Kaito and Luka but won't expect that for 2 years.

If they made Hibari or Ryona I'd be so screwed. But hey, it probably won't ever happen so yeah... Definitely not as a preorder anyway.

I think Megurine Luka might still be a possibility - or Yowane Haku, then they could use the Miku sculpt again.

 

And since they have still so many Mikus left, maybe Volks will demand upfront payment for preorders in the future.

No way is it going to be a non-Miku vocaloid if Rin/Len weren't preorder. They're the two most popular ones besides Miku...and its kind of a running joke that a lot of companies pretend Kaito and Meiko don't exist. Luka's got more chance than them, but it still wouldnt make any sense considering Rin and Len. I still think if it's anything Vocaloid it'll be Sakura Miku.

Edit - still wondering if Ace Attorney has a chance with its recent new game and anime adaptation that's apparently been doing really well ratings-wise. A Maya/Maoi would be so adorable I don't think i could handle it.

I'd really srsly die if this happened, but honestly? I settled this wouldn't happen ages ago. I feel like if they did it it'd be Shinobu (Due to Kizumonogatari) and while I'd love that I'd still feel like I'm missing out on best girl. :< I feel like it isn't even at the height of its popularity anymore. Its had a lot of underwhelming seasons as of late. Popularity wise I think it still wins the most with Bakemonogatari and that just feels so old to go back to now. (Just ranting for a second...)

 

And maybe I'm a jerk but I really just hope it isn't something like Love Live, or KanColle where they need to fuel another entire army. We got that with Idolmaster and I know I'm on the opposite of people, but I got really, really tired of sameface. I get same series and what not, but that's the issue with constantly the same series. If they oneshot it, sure. I'm okay with that. It only gets to me when we see girl after girl from that series and I just find their looks all so bland (doesn't help same artist for all of them other then one...). I wouldn't even want them to do that with Bakemonogatari because that's how much I dislike endless dolls of the same series or molds. .___.''' Basically, I just want constant variety.

I just decided to check, and most pre-orders weren't at the height of their popularity. It's hard to figure out when Fate's popularity is at its peak, but I wouldn't say it was during the Saber pre-order. Same with Macross F, the original show came out in 2008, and the last movie came out in 2011. With Xenosaga, the last game came out in 2006. Actually the White Album girls were released at about the same time as their anime, but I don't think White Album was that popular overall, I'm guessing Aqua Plus was willing to do it for marketing.

 

Going through the Collaboration Models page, the pre-orders I recognize are,

 

- Snow Miku (go sapporo!)

- Macross F

- Miku

- Xenosaga

- Saber + Saber

- White Album (Yuki & Rina)

- Gurren Lagann (2009, aired 2007, so well within its peak)

- Touhou girls

 

Xenosaga probably happened because 2013 was also the year Bandai finally gave up on trying to merchandise it (judging by product releases of KOS-MOS figures and stuff). Going out with a bang, I guess. Snow Miku came out of nowhere possibly because the Sapporo Snow Festival really wanted it. The twin Sabers were the Type-Moon anniversary.

 

...I don't have any conclusions to draw, other than the fact that it doesn't have to be popular now. It just needs to have an invested fanbase, or be White Album.

I doubt Bakemonogatari would have sameface syndrome, at least not to the level of Idolmaster or Vocaloid.

I mean they are a company for hire, technically, right? Like that's what I assume Phonokano did when they pushed for Haruka Niimi before they even really released the game/anime? (Please correct me if I'm remembering this incorrectly).

 

And you are right, Monogatari has a lot of variety in its faces, but I'm worried they would stick only Misaki Serika on it like they did with the Idol girls and then I'm sure it'd be more sameface-y. I'm butthurt in general though that they don't use Kyousuke Kitahara more often in general as he's my favorite artist. I'm even fine with Amano Hakase disregarding Haruka Amami.

 

This all sort of hits on my main issue with Volks as of late, which is I feel like they need to let other artists shine more regularly. Not just on occasion. .__.'' (Sorry for the off topic-ness. I'll stop. I'm just in a ranting mood apparently. ><;; )

Well yeah. If you think about it, it makes no sense for Volks to finance a pre-order project when they only get paid by the customer at time of delivery. They're a manufacturing company so in order to not lose money, their manufacturing facility (and employees) need to be working at full capacity, and make money. In any business, employees that don't have work get laid off, so work must be queued up well in advance.

 

It's probably something like a big rights holder coming in and saying, hey, we'll buy/mostly fund your production lines for 1 month to do a pre-order project. That might determine the size of the first shipment to customers, after that Volks is willing to increase their risk and take more cost for the rest.

 

When a doll gets only a tiny release from a lotto, it's probably because the rights holder was only willing to pay for 2 days of manufacturing or something. I think that's why so many people won Sasara and Melty, because Volks actually took the cost and dedicated a good chunk of their production capacity just to make them for the Dollfie anniversary. That was way better than a normal lottery.

 

I was looking at the collaboration models list, I have a feeling things really took off for Volks when they released the Haruhi DD (even Konata in Lucky Star has one ). After that they had a steady line of collaboration models, which then went into the Type-Moon pre-order and some kind of exploded.
