Any TCG Players?

Recommended Posts

DivinitaAria

Hey everyone

I'm curious if anyone plays any TCGs!

My boyfriend taught me how to play Pokemon in January and it's been a lot of fun! I took forward to the next season and trying to become a smarter player.

I've tried learning yugioh and magic but that did not go so well haha!

Magic is a lot to learn imo, Vanguard is pretty simple by comparison and Pokemon is fun, bit there wasn't anyone to play with around here so I had to give it up

MTG is pretty much the only one I still remember to play and personally speaking can be sort of difficult to get into. I only say that because the various formats is a bit weird and with such a huge range of cards you really either need to know to help ya play and build, or force yourself into a situation where you don't need to know those.

I guess Standard is probably the friendliest because it limits the cards you are allowed to use to the current sets, while I'd preferable play in Modern. (And it is general what I do do when I wanna play.)

Disregarding my favorites to watch are Legacy/Vintage~ o3o

I used to play Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh way back when. Man, I don't even think I could remember how to play those. XD

I know how to play MTG, it's my husband's main hobby. It's very expensive though, he easily spends as much as/more than I do on dolls. He taught me to play in high school about 13 or so years ago, and I used to have my own smallish collection. In college though I decided that not only could I not afford to have a big collection, but also I'm definitely a casual player at best (I'm kinda terrible at strategy based games) and I have access to his collection anyway, so I sold my cards to him.

When I'm in the mood to play now I prefer the Commander format. I have one deck that is "my" deck that isn't allowed to be changed without my input despite him playing it more than me. It's in panda sleeves and box. He has about 30-40 Commander decks built, as it's also currently his favorite format. Standard really requires buying lots of the new sets when they're out and Vintage and Legacy require some really expensive cards that he used to own but had to sell when we hit some financial trouble. Commander is usually easier to trade for good things to put into decks and not have to sink as much cash.

I've never played most other TCGs, though in college they tried to teach me to play the World of Warcraft based one. Already knowing the rules for MTG made that one harder for me to understand, so I guess I've never really tried since then.

I have heard that MTG is super expensive That's so scary to think about! I'd love to learn how to play but just from reading everyone's responses, I already feel so lost with the jargon

You could play Magic Online. They also have the Magic games up on Steam (Current one is Magic 2014?) that are pretty friendly to learn the game from what I know. Only thing is I think you do build your own deck which can take time, but you start off with a very limited set of cards (You may actually just start with a premade deck).

I honestly mostly play Magic in Tabletop Simulator. XD I try to find the cheap routes!

I've recently heard about Fire Emblem Cipher, and am eager to start playing it ( ^∇^)

I've actually never played any trading card game before (I had a few Pokemon cards when I was younger, but I mostly kept them for the looks rather than for the game) so this will certainly be a funny experience !

I'm largely out of the TCG scene these days, but I do really like card games with set decks.

My current favourite is Exceed, where each deck essentially acts as a fighting game character that you use to duel against other players. As someone who really likes the mind games aspect of fighting games, but without the execution required in high level play, card games like this are a great substitute.

And given that you can buy a deck for like 12 usd, it's a lot cheaper than a TCG too

I'm huuuuge into Vanguard, like knee-deep, I'm not even kidding. Right now I'm building three decks simultaneously ^ ^;;; I also play WIXOSS and Pokemon, though. (really wish more people were into WIXOSS so playing it wouldn't feel so lonely...) Some friends have been trying to entice me into Luck & Logic and Force of Will but I've been resilient this far.

I also used to play Magic the Gathering, Legend of the Five Rings, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Masters and Digimon >v<;;;
