Scammer Using Stolen Flickr Photos

Recommended Posts

Katiazza

I wasn't sure where to post this so I'm putting it here. Baldy, please move it if it's in the wrong spot!

A local collector and friend of mine was approached by someone on Facebook looking to trade for one of her (husband's) dolls. They offered a Nia Teppelin in exchange and provided my friend with my photos from flickr. The seller actually seemed quite uninformed and definitely hadn't even heard of dollfie dreams before they stole the photos and sent them over. I'm unaware of they have stolen or tried to steal dolls from other people by scamming but they are still active on both Facebook accounts they have been using. The names they go by are Sam Mendoza and Eliot Noir but no guarantees they aren't using others.

My friend was about to ship her doll out when she went digging and found out the photos were actually mine and then called the scam.

She posted in the Facebook group "Dollfie Dream Adoption and Chat' and if you are a part of that group you can see the post. My friend goes by NeonKnightmare on Den of Angels and here as HimeSama. Since they stole my photos I decided to post about this here and in a few other places.

I'll be adding photos of the conversation later today when I get home.

Thank you for sharing this, it is good to know.

One thing to keep in mind before making any kind of transaction with someone online is to search for their feedback. This is why I only do trades in DoA because I have easy access to their feedback, I also do google image reverse to check if the photo belongs to someone else. I only did it twice and they approached me. I researched them and found good feedback but I still asked them to ship first. I didn't ship my package until I got their tracking number.

Thanks for posting this, Katiazza. Your friend was fortunate and smart to have picked up on the clues that the inquiring person seemed uninformed. And it was very lucky she found and recognized your photos!

jazijaz, I agree with you about having the interested trade party ship first. Their doll is the "payment", and you would never ship your doll to someone before you got the payment for it. I've done trades where I've shipped the same time as the other person, but they were small items (hand parts) and not entire dolls. My trade partner had good feedback and I had seen her many times in one of DoA's discussion forums.

It kind of goes without saying, but some people specialize scamming that way. One thing I try to make a habit of is to take a photo of the packed contents of the box, and another photo with the shipping label on the box. I don't bother sharing the photos, but I do have them just in case. It's probably a good idea to ask the other party for that.
