Eiko82 Posted August 10, 2016 I want to give a thumbs up to Culture Japan's customer service. Last year, I missed out on buying the hijab/turtleneck set. Unfortunately, Culture Japan can't get hold of the material anymore. A couple of weeks ago, I emailed them to ask how many sets were sold so I could calculate my chances of finding it on the secondary market. I was lucky that Culture Japan still had a set and was willing to sell it to me. They even added it to my existing order so I wouldn't have to pay extra for shipping. So yeah, a HUGE thumbs up to Culture Japan for their amazing customer service. In the future, I hope to buy a tanned Smart Doll and make her a Muslim character. But for now, here is Chie and Rise, modeling both hijab sets. I think women with hijabs tend to be very beautiful. So when I saw that Danny Choo was making hijabs for Smart Dolls, I thought it was awesome for him to promote diversity. Rise can even wear her stylish glasses with her hijab. Monty Posted August 10, 2016 They're so cute! It's also the first time I've seen someone use the hijab on a non-smartdoll. Rise looks great in it! I like how in the last pic Mirai looks so interested in those glasses. *twitter*instagram*art*
Ie-Aster Posted August 10, 2016 Rise looks very much like a girl from the western part of the Middle East here, in particular she looks like a girl from Syria I knew in college. What country are you thinking of making your character be from? ^_^ Many of the international students I knew who wore hijabs definitely made theirs into a fashion item as well, choosing very nice patterns and fabrics that coordinated with their outfits and the seasonal colors. I think this is something that tends to get lost on many people who are not familiar with Muslim culture outside of media portrayals. I like that Danny Choo has recognized that. Very cute photographs as well! I really like the posing. They remind me of cheerful college students who just began their break. At home: Mei (DDP Lucy custom), Aku (DDB Takane custom) En route: L. Ajahli Posted August 10, 2016 oh wow!! They look so good! I'm not Muslim, but I love seeing the different ways ladies coordinate their hijabs with their outfits, (Lolita too!) and I thought it was awesome Danny was selling Hijab sets! I'd love to have one for my Smart Doll someday too!
Eiko82 Posted August 12, 2016 Torino - Thank you very much! I'm totally biased but I think Rise looks good in everything. The new hijab set is quite easy to put on. It'd be interesting to see other Dollfie Dreams wear it. Ie-Aster - I don't know yet what country my character would be from. I hope that Danny Choo will make more colours available for the hijab set. I would love some pastel coloured or flower fabric hijabs. I see those quite often around here. Ajahli - Same! I'm also not a Muslim but I like seeing hijabs in different styles. I recently saw photos of a Muslim Lolitha named Sugernoor. Her outfits are really cute. Hopefully, Danny will make some pastel-coloured hijabs. BTW I swapped the hijab sets. Now Rise is wearing the old set and Chie is wearing the new one. Tbh I wouldn't recommend the old hijab set for non-Smart Dolls. I really struggled to get it on Rise. Eiko82 Posted March 5, 2017 Are you talking about the original hijab sets? Culture Japan has the new designs still in stock. The old ones wouldn't come back 'cause they can't find the material anymore. Good luck finding them! michael Posted March 5, 2017 yes, the original set that came with the turtleneck i know they won't come back to Danny's store so i was hoping someone here might have one they no longer use
cirquemom Posted March 5, 2017 They look beautiful. I have Muslim relatives, so I was happy to see that Danny made a hijab.
medalis Posted March 9, 2017 I've been really interested in getting (or probably making, since the colours that Mr. Choo has are kinda boring) my Tea Skin Mirai a hijab, but, as I'm not Muslim and don't know any, I worry about accidentally offending someone since they're, y'know, a religious item, and I'd use Mirai's primary just for fashion. I dunno. I'm probably just being too cautious, but I'd rather not offend anyone. Still, they look beautiful on your girls! cirquemom Posted March 9, 2017 I'm not a Muslim but I have Muslim relatives and I don't think they would be offended, I think they would feel happy that you are honoring their religion. And there are different types of Muslims- I think some very orthodox Muslims will not even allow their children to play with dolls at all. But I wouldn't worry about it- I think most people would like it.
Eiko82 Posted March 10, 2017 Medalis - I had/have the same worries. I'm not Muslim either. Rise and Chie are just 'showing off' the hijabs but in the nearby future, I hope to make a Muslim character who'll wear them all the time.
