On hold! Lilly Satou of Katawa Shoujo

Greetings!

 

So as this is my first doll I'm going to tread rather carefully and slowly, so apologies if this takes a long time.

 

The Character

Blind since birth, Lilly is caring, responsible and friendly - the perfect foil to Hanako, her best friend, whom she shares an almost mother-daughter relationship with, in addition to her free time often being spent drinking tea alongside her companion. In class she is a diligent student, with her sense of confidence serving her well in her role as class representative of class 3-2.

Base Doll

 

For this I'm thinking Alna Magic White ver. or Sheryl Nome. I'm leaning towards Alna because she has a slightly softer expression and paler skin, but Sheryl is also a lot easier to find. So I don't know... Either one I get though is getting a new faceup. Alna would in all likelyhood be swapped onto a DDIII body too with an L bust. Lily just isn't that curvy, despite being the most well-endowed of the girls.

Now I'm thinking less Alna and maybe a standard head. Maybe an 07 or an 09. The 09 is harder to get but I really want to do this character justice.

Parts

 

Faceup: To comission. Lily herself has a very basic style so I'll likely ask whoever it is to add their own twist to it. Especially when it comes to the eyelashes.

 

Outfit: I'll comission her school uniform and casual outfit. From who? I don't know. I've heard a lot of good things about Beyond Wonderland, so maybe them? If you have any reccomendations put them down below!

 

Shoes: Since I haven't seen her shoes I'm going to improvise here and say she'll probbly wear something with a pointed toe and a heel. Something mature. Black probably.

 

Wig: This has been the hardest part to find since apparently ponytail wigs are in very short supply. I've seen some on Taobao but I think I would end up ordering more just to make the process worth it. Also, the ones i've seen are either straight or curled, so i would likely end up plaiting it in a bunch of small plaits to get Lilly's characteristic wave. If anyone can reccomend a good custom wig maker or can help me find a wig very similar to Lilly's I would really appreciate it!

I think I'm firmly in love with Alna now (sorry Sheryl!) since I think she would fit Lilly perfectly.

Coll idea, it's pretty interesting to see someone trying to shell a Katawa Shoujo character in a doll, i'm curious to see how she will come out!

 

I admit i fear Alna and Sheryl could be a bit too hybrid looking for Lily concept which is purely anime/manga, but if you like Alna go for it, it's usually pretty cheap (one of the cheapest limited around) and it's a wonderful sculpt, probably my favourite above all (i have a custom Alna too and i bought her partially wiped for 140 euros ) , and you see her popping out pretty often on Marketplace and on various Facebook groups /mandarake etc .

 

Since you're Uk based for what i see you can find some faceupper for hire in Europe in the "Painting and Customisation" section (at least me http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=11514,which i'm from Italy and at least other 3 just to say the firsts that it came to mind ) without going to send the head overseas, about the outfit Beyond Wonderland is a well known european seamstress, i take commissions too for outfits other than faceups but i'm not opening new slots until september for custom garments since i have a workload to clear before re-opening (i have my shop in the "Members Custom Items Shops" http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=12495 too ) , there's also Ausra Fashion which is europe based for example.

Apart the custom road for the outfits probably you can find the shirt of the uniform and maybe even the skirt already made around online (taobao/ebay etc) it's not a so uncommon look, the only big question if is easy to find them in DD size since bjd garments will hardly fit perfetly like a glove, and if is white lined ,to avoid staining, at least the dark colored parts (or if you plan to use a bodysuit underneat ) .

Thank you for the input! I had the same thoughts about Alna because of her more unique sculpt, but we'll see how she ends up. I thought maybe an 07 or an 09 too still in semi-White skin. I don't know though. I've seen a couple of Alna's for sale and the cheapest was 81,000 yen and the most expensive was 120,000. So I think I'll hedge my bets on a secondhand Alna. I'm not in a particular rush so I'll wait to get her for a good price.

 

I've also dropped an email to Beyond Wonderland and I'll wait for a response from them. I've asked that the black camisole and green skirt to be lined in white. As for faceups, I'm not sure. I've looked at a few artists on here and I'll probably be contacting a few.

A little update here. I managed to get the wig and some eyes that are the perfect colour. I think I may go for a DDH-09 after all, so in light of that she's on hold until 2019.

 

Now, I know this seems like a long way away, but I have good reason! 2019/2020 will be the year I'll be in Japan for my year abroad in university, meaning I can go to DollPoint and buy her myself; in person! How exciting is that?!

 

So in that time, since I can't very well just give up on my hobbies for two years, I'll be focusing on my OCs and their iterations as Dollfie Dreams. I'm also going to be keeping an eye out on any new limited since I missed out on Anastasia and was kind of bummed about it.
