sinclair Posted August 26, 2016 Can you tell the difference between these two photos? And which one do you like better, and why? Photo 1: Photo 2:
sleepywolf Posted August 26, 2016 Can you tell the difference between these two photos? Sure can! The difference is quite noticeable (I'm viewing the pics on a calibrated monitor). I like the bottom pic more since it's much richer in color. [rimg]http://www.dollfiedreams.com/gallery/image.php?album_id=201&image_id=846[/rimg]
SlyViolin Posted August 27, 2016 Can definitely tell the difference. I like the top picture. While the bottom picture has much stronger colours it also makes the bushes and grass a lot stronger and takes my attention away from Miku. So top picture for the win as the scenery is less distracting.
chikemuri Posted August 27, 2016 I think both pics look good, but to be honest I was more distracted at how cute Miku's hair is styled :p I like the brightness of the 2nd one though.
Ie-Aster Posted August 28, 2016 I prefer the lower one! I do agree with SlyViolin about the bushes becoming more distracting in that one, though. What I prefer about the lower one is, specifically, how much richer the red and magenta tones become. You can particularly notice it on Miku's plushie's hair, and Miku's cheeks and blouse. I think this gives the shot more of an anime feel because drawings tend to have the same richness in all the colors employed. In the upper shot the green is already rich, and the blue somewhat as well, but the reds and magentas seem somewhat faded out. Full disclosure, I have no advanced photography training; this is just my opinion ^__^ At home: Mei (DDP Lucy custom), Aku (DDB Takane custom) En route: L. sinclair Posted August 29, 2016 The bottom photo is the result of a process called tone mapping, aka HDR but HDR is technically incorrect. You start off setting the camera to bracketed mode and then take the shot. The top photo is actually the middle image from the bracketed set I used. I then put all the shots from the bracket, in my case 5, in a program that then generates the tone maps. I take the tone mapped images and layer them in one image adjusting the transparency of the levels. I flattened it and brought it back into my image library, making some final adjustments. I like doing it because it does bring out more detail in things, and makes the colors more life like. Once it cools down some more (Still in the 100's during the day, and 90's in the evening.), I'll take some more photos of Miku and post the "before" and "after" to give some more examples. And if there are enough requests, I'll even do a How-To. It's been so long since I done photography that I had forgotten to take more bracketed shots with Miku during that shoot until the end. Missy_Magoo Posted August 31, 2016 I agree that photo 2 seems better somehow, more light and colour contrast
sinclair Posted August 31, 2016 Here's a couple more examples. As you can see, it works a lot better with natural light than indoor lighting.
