sinclair Posted September 2, 2016 Did anyone else see this? From VolksUSA's Facebook page. If this is really going to be a product you can buy, I really need to start saving up big time. I hope you can buy just the robot parts sans the Dollfie body as I just got Miku a couple months ago. This also means you could put other bodies on the robot. I can see several of you use it for Saber.
Poofiemus Posted September 2, 2016 And thus, I hear the sound of a thousand wallets dying. Hard to tell if this is going to be a wide release item or not, but Sinclair, you could probably get just the Honey body and plunk your Miku's head on it. But I'm actually not that into the roboticized doll thing. What I'm geeking out about is the Miku themed DD carrying case. I waaaant it. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. Mikuland Posted September 2, 2016 So it's a DD body with a robot (smart doll like) inner structure that dances to MikuMikuDance? Well that's pretty rad,but not my thing so thank fully my wallet is safe lol
pharaviel Posted September 2, 2016 I hope it will be programmable for other than miku miku dance... I totally wanted a smart Doll (while I didn't and don't like the look) if it was moving. Now back to Volks...
Monty Posted September 2, 2016 Really curious how this will turn out. ...I also cant help feeling a little bad for Danny Choo. I wonder if Volks had any similar problems? They definitely have more money to play with, though. *twitter*instagram*art*
sinclair Posted September 2, 2016 But I'm actually not that into the roboticized doll thing. What I'm geeking out about is the Miku themed DD carrying case. I waaaant it. Yes, I had seen the bag on Facebook a couple weeks ago, and it's on my list to get as well. As for DH, it sounds like they but a robot frame in a DD body, so it uses the same skin anyways. But yes, a head swap would work. When I told my wife about it last night, she just rolled her eyes at me. And yes, I thought of Danny and SD as soon as I read about this. I guess it goes to show that He was on to something if Volks is looking to do something like it. But the important question is, can I get an English speaking Miku DH??? If so, then:
littlebirdzoom Posted September 2, 2016 One of Danny's weak points is that while he had some things up on his competition, he also kind of takes forever to get to anything. I had this image in my head after I read the story like Volks had this idea all along, Danny came around and said he had the idea and it was his, but big Volks tyrant just let him play making things like an older USB version socket in his dolls because they knew they were going to do this soon and probably do it right. Or so we hope, if it can do things outside of MikuMiku. I also see Volks since they're so established already being able to keep quiet about stuff like this and just go BAM LOOK. Danny on the other hand had to use the excitement to build his business like "hey I'm gonna do this some day I swear". Which is understandable, but now I feel bad for him. Or who knows, maybe he'll come out with something even better after Volks does their thing. Or maybe he'll wait to see what Volks weak points were with the product and fix them in his. Judging by his business direction that seems to be the case, which would be awesome. He just needs to get on the game now. And I'm not bashing anyone, this whole thing is really interesting to me and I wish I could pick the brains of both sides. And someday I will have USB Eiji. I NEED Either way this is exciting and my wallet is going to be a whole new kind of empty. I hope we're able to purchase sooner than later, but an English version probably won't be around for a while. Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls. Gabriel Posted September 2, 2016 It looks interesting. I'm not sure if it would be my kind of thing or not, but I imagine the price will probably be too rich for me to consider anyway.
GothicKDM Posted September 2, 2016 yes but with the smartdolls now you can cram things in them like rice cookers and chargers for phones and usb >_> why....i just dont really like the cram stuff in it that could have the risk of melting your doll. I was talking to another person about I wanted the robotic smartdoll but im not sure because i didnt read it yet but somewhere on his blog is a explanation about why he wont make the robotic version. Because hes on some kind of board and they conciser that a conflict of interest.
foo Posted September 3, 2016 FYI, we first heard about it back in December with this announcement. It started out by Speecys which is a robotics company, and Volks joined up. Here's a from March 2015 before Volks was involved.
mika Posted September 3, 2016 I'm surprised, they're so.. fast? I get it Danny's a smaller company than Volks (are they?), but they took forever, this thing has been going on since maybe 2012, people expect the first release of the "Smart Doll" to be the robotic version (now called "Smart Doll Plus", still in development). Instead of focusing on developing it they released a regular vinyl bjd lines competing with Volks Dollfie Dream. Now they're producing licensed Smart Dolls. I know for sure Danny had a lot in his head, it's kinda sad to see this, I guess he really pushed Volks to the competition, which is a good thing I guess. foo Posted September 3, 2016 The difference with this is that it requires a gigantic base, and the doll can't leave the base and still move (I'm not sure if the doll can be removed at all). Smart Doll is supposed to be self contained, and the biggest problem he had was getting powerful enough motors inside it. He eventually decided on a pulley system where the motors pull wires, which is exactly what this thing does. But all the wires go into a big base that has all the strong motors. It doesn't seem like he can make a 1/3 scale doll that moves by itself. He couldn't get motors that were small enough, powerful enough to move a doll wearing clothing, and figure out how to deal with heat (either dissipate it or not have it). lightly Posted September 5, 2016 yes but with the smartdolls now you can cram things in them like rice cookers and chargers for phones and usb >_> why....i just dont really like the cram stuff in it that could have the risk of melting your doll. This is what I immediately thought of when I realized there could be cables going in and stuff. Don't powerbanks get really hot? Doesn't seem like it's a good idea to introduce heat to dolls made in this material.
Monty Posted September 9, 2016 Heres a video of her. I got kind of choked up watching this, I must admit. Not just cos its cool to see a moving doll (even though she's not really doing much and it doesnt really seem like she can stand or walk) but...she's singing hoshi no kakera. That was the first Miku song I ever heard, way back before she was famous, before she even released - it was one of the demo songs they used to promote her on the Crypton website when she was just about to come out on sale. I remember seeing that and thinking it was cool to hear a robot sing and liking her but assuming that she'd just be one of those many other things that I think is cool and no one else does. I never, ever would have expected back then what Miku would have turned into (honestly Crypton wouldnt have either.) 2007 me would never have even imagined for a moment what this character was going to become and that in 9 years I'd be getting choked up because of a video of a moving doll of her at a massive convention themed almost entirely around her. She's just...she's come so far ;_; Having watched her from 'birth' I feel like some kind of proud parent. (even though I am not responsible for any of her success whatsoever lol) That aside, I dont know if I really 'get' Dollfie Honey. Giving it a name implies it's a product, but is it even something that's gonna be sold, or just exhibited? edit- Volks posted a vid with a better view of her *twitter*instagram*art*
SisterKyoya Posted September 10, 2016 The only way I'd justify getting a Dollfie Honey is for Sohi. Not to turn her in to a robot, but because she has been 'building' one. The movements are just WAY too jerky to be anything but 100% robot to me. Even if we have a robot character on our 'to do list' I'm still highly doubtful that it's enough reason to buy a Dollfie Honey. The movement just reminds me of really bad animatronics, and the 'dancing' skeleton just looks like a flailing praying mantis. Both of those things are massive negatives. Most of all I'm just left scratching my head as all I can think is "What are they trying to do here?" I just don't see the appeal for fans of DD. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Monty Posted September 10, 2016 Thats kind of what I mean by not really 'getting' it too would be pretty funny if they sold a multi thousand dollar DD that can awkwardly play a piano and thats it... I do think its kind of cute, but its still not even on the level of stuff I've seen fans make themselves. *twitter*instagram*art*
