Kurenai, Twilight and Moonlight

Omg, does she have like, violet eyes? yessss! :3

On a sculpt note, I found the Smartdoll faces strangely flat before this - even if they are cute from the front - but this new girl looks great! She also looks like she has an edge to her personality

This is a product of translating a 2D design into 3D. Mirai (and many of Danny's other character) existed long before Smart Doll as illustrations in the 2D world. This leaves a very strong image of what their faces should look like. The "flatness" is a compromise of being truer to how they are rendered in 2D. On the other hand, Volks approaches their anime sculpts from the perspective of someone very familiar with 3D rendering of heads and faces. Volks will essentially just rearrange the features of a 3D head sculpt (Change eye shape, size, location. Resculpt the mouth, nose, etc.) to get their versions of each anime character they produce. Volks anime sculpts capture the spirit of the various characters in 3D doll form, whereas these early Smart Doll sculpts are trying to capture the exact look of their 2D counterparts.

i think kurenai's head mold really suits Danny's very own Kizuna Yumeno... kizuna with mirai's head mold seemed a little off.. that's just my opinion.

Some new pics were released. I'm not sure if these are the finalised eye colours but I love the ones for Twilight and Moonlight so much!

He also says Twilight is in pre-production.

I'm seriously so impressed with them.

I agree - I love Moonlight's purple eyes.

I actually think I like these girls. Here hoping once they have their looks finalized and all their pictures are released that I still feel that way. I'd like to have at least one Smart Doll. o3o

 

The more I look the more I end up finding something less appealing. I think I was just happy to see a more defined nose. XD

Moonlight's eyes are gorgeous! Twilight's are pretty too, but I definitely love the purple the most. (I might be a bit biased though since purple is my favorite color...)

 

Are Kurenai's eyes the same as the Mirai ones? They look a bit different but I can't tell...

I've been ooh-ing and ahh-ing over Twilight's eyes myself! My tea/tan guy will also have aqua/teal eyes and I'm soo looking forward to the time I can finally afford him. It's nice to know that combination looks that good on Twilight.

I really love twilight! She is my favourite smart doll so far I think.

She's lovely! I do get a strong Miki Hoshi vibe from her. Hm. I don't know if I'll buy her when she comes out - I'm trying to stick to MDDs for now.

Twilight's still definitely my top pick of all the girls total. I'd love to see her in person! I guess owner photos arent far off at least - not sure if anyone here plans to get her but I hope you post a bunch if you do. I'm pretty taken with her but if I do decide to get another smartdoll it's not gonna be for a while - maybe by the time I'm able to I can do the workshop.

Atm. I am on the maybe line for her to replace my DDY 05head, Isolda. but I am not sure atm

I think she is very cute but I prefer the Kurenai faceup. So I'll wait for Danny to release Kurenai (and getting a European retailer) before buying.

I actually really like her. I'm sort of considering the Milk ver. I don't know if I really should get more dolls but eh...I've kind of wanted a sort of "generic" characterless doll just for realizing various photoshoot ideas that don't fit the character of the dolls I have who are from defined stories. My doubts largely center on the leggy body. If there was a DDS sized SmD body I'd be pretty close to sold...

I think Twilight may be next on my to-get list... (Side note: DDPretty Iori is technically next on my wish list, but only if her secondhand market price isn't too high by the time I can afford a new doll.)

 

Twilight's eye shape and skin tone are perfect for an OC of mine. However! The OC is often snarky, annoyed, grumpy, or somewhat neutral in expression. Do you think a faceup artist could make that work on Twilight? I know her sculpt is meant to be smiley. Also, the OC has heavy dark eye makeup and piercings on her eyebrow and ears.

 

Right now I only have one doll with a custom faceup, so I'm really now sure what is possible >_>;;

I'm totally buying Twilight in tea skin when she comes out, so it's possible she'd show up at a doll meet sometime.

Twilight is so cute compared to his other girl Sunlight. Urgh my wallet is coming out of my pocket more and more!

Nice to know when they'll be available. They're nice in person, though their nosey-ness was really pronounced in my opinion, especially compared to the other Smart Dolls in the store. xD My favorite faceup for this sculpt is still Moonlight, but a milk Twilight would fit one of my OCs better. Getting her would mean that I'd have to track down a Ranko for her rival though so that plan will likely be on the backburner for a long while.

 

I'd also like to see Kurenai in tea skin sometime, I wonder if Danny will release her as well.

I think that a faceup artist could make that work, based on the variety of expressions I've seen done on many different base sculpts on Y!J auctions. I've not seen very many DDs or any SmDs with heavy dark eye makeup though so it might take a while to find an artist who knows how to/wants do that? It's seemingly a lot more common in resin BJDs so you could try asking around with

resin faceup artists as well.

Twilight looks really good in 'tea'. I think with the open mouth, a custom faceup might really be interesting on this head.

I really like Milk and Tea Twilight.

 

Something about Cocoa Twilight just isn't working for me though. Whilst I don't think Smart Doll's dark skin colour looks particularly realistic, I like it for what it is, and Harmony is my first and currently only doll. Twilight however, just looks off in cocoa and I can't figure out why

Thank for all your info ^____^ When I can commit to getting her ( /can afford to get her...), I will specifically look for an artist who can do that style of makeup. Thanks for the tip on asking around for resin artists too. It'll still need to look anime of course ^_~
