20 CM Alternatives?

Recommended Posts

Mikuland

So after reading forum for a long time, after researching for a long time, after deciding on a "wishlist" and calculating prices and stuff, I realized.

I can't do it. Spending +700$ on a doll, even if it s so incredibly beautiful and I love it, it's not something I can do. 700$ is more than most people make monthly on their job and I just cant get my mind through it.

Plus there's the thing that I move houses a lot, than none of those houses belongs to me so I cannot be buying exposition cabinets and they'd just go in the closet, etc.

But it s not like I'm going to run away from the hobby screaming and crying. I'm looking for alternatives! Something smaller, like 20 cms or so, that I can carry around easily even when I'm moving, of course, cheaper, but still on the same anime custom doll idea.

Can you guys help? THANKS!

(Because I really now nothing outside of Volks DD)

I recommend pure neemos. They were my gateway drug to doll collecting, they're the little guys all over Kaito in my signature. A new one is usually between $120-$150 if thats more doable for you. Plus the manufacturer Azone makes some absolutely beautiful outfits, releasing news ones every few months just like Volks does.

There's a pure neemo thread here if you want to learn more about them and see more photos. viewtopic.php?f=41&t=647&start=0

Edit- how much is too much? If you still like the idea of a big vinyl doll, you could make an obitsu for about half the price or less.

Also, a standard DD is more around $400, less if you just by the body and blank head. $700ish is the price of a full set licensed character doll.

I got lots of messages suggesting Pure Neemo so I'm going to check them!

So far I think they look pretty, but the eyeless flat face doesnt really resonate with me...

I will also be checking Pocket Doll and Nano Doll from the Mirai Store once they are released!

I checked obitsu and Azo2 dolls, and even if they are more affordable, the whole "too big, too incovenient" still applies.

Thank you so much for your help, you have been so nice to me!!

If you want a 1/6 doll with open eyes, you can also do a hybrid with a pure neemo body and an open eye parabox head. Obitsu is also making an updated 1/6 body but it isn't available for sale yet.

Obitsu heads fit fine on pure neemo bodies; you can buy those separately. A lot of people make those hybrids...actually most people outside Japan do because for reasons I will never understand Azone sell their bodies overseas but not their heads, which are only sold in Azone stores.

Obitsu's new body does look better than a PN one in terms of poseability, its much more like a shrunken down version of their big ones. (Their old 1/6 bodies are really ugly IMO, they may pose better than a pure neemo but aesthetically they're just bleh)

Obitsu heads on PN bodies work really well! If want an especially tiny doll (1/8th ish scale, perfect for Re-ment accessories) you can use an Obitsu 11 head on a PN XS body. Here's mine:

Of course, if you want open eyes you'll probably need a Parabox head, and I'm not certain of the crosscompatibility--it may take some modding.

Outfits--if you want nice stuff, Azone outfits and Momoko/Ruruko clothing are gorgeous. That's what Mei's wearing above. Prices can vary, Ruruko fullset outfits can be $40 and upwards, but Azone stuff is generally more affordable iirc. If you want to try and sew for them, I recommend Momoko patterns (available in Dolly*Dolly and other such Japanese doll magazines; may need adjusting depending on your doll), handsewing, and patience.

But Azones and Obitsu hybrids are light, adorable, and there are loads of things in 1/6 to 1/8 scale you can buy for them, many of which are quite cheap--so it sounds like that might be a good option!

I'd be happy to give more photos and answer questions if you like!

At home: Mei (DDP Lucy custom), Aku (DDB Takane custom)

En route: L. (DD Matoi)

The 24cm new obitsu look pretty cute and are the same height as a piconeemo S. I am waiting on mine personally, but they have soft bodies. A small vinyl if you want that experience

My dollfie dreams are not on display...I often have one near me. (I do have a cabinet but it mostly holds my AG collection.)

If you watch Ebay, sometimes you can get a great deal on a standard doll with a body. I've seen Dollfie Dreams go for $300 or less.

Taking an extended break from any purchases to save up for Mariko!
