DDP Iori Minase and Yayoi Takatsuki(and Volks news 70)

Sigh, now I've fallen for those two. They are cuties for sure.

 

As for the boxes, Yaya came in a yellow box. So who knows how they decide to do a custom box or not. But I really don't care as I don't buy them for the box, only for the girl in the box. As soon as she come out the box gets tossed in the attic.

OMG! OMG! I hope the color of that wig is accurate on my computer. If so it will be perfect for Ringo! My twins will look like twins again!

After seeing her in Volks News and then IRL without any special interest in her... WOAH. Yayoi is so much cuter in customers photos! O_O

I've always been curious about why some dolls get the yellow 'peekaboo' boxes and some dont? At first I just thought it was only the preorder ones that got 'special' ones,

 

The boxes dont seem to follow any real logic to speak of. Although accessories could be a part of it.

 

for instance the original blue saber was in a SD style box, I believe one of the first special boxed with a fouton to go with it, but the first Alter was a normal yellow box if I recall correct.

 

Could be that if the accessories cant be made to fit in the normal boxes without much problems then they issue the SD sized big box.

 

like the shining girls, I think Neris and Airi got yellow boxes, and Melty and the Sakuyas bigger boxes due to melty's hat and sakuya's swords. Also the K-on twosome's guitars granted a bigger box.

 

So boxed accessories = big box release?

I think white box come from doll that have lot of accessories, like swords, wings, big guns etc. Those accessories won't fit on the yellow box one or it will get destroyed and Volks will get lot of complain

That's what I've assumed it is. For example, Sakuya came with a big ass sword, and she needed a box for that. For Melty I guess it was her giant hat. When stuff can't be crammed into a yellow box, they get a bigger box :/

I would say that maybe Rin and Len got special boxes because Miku did and they're from the same series... but this explanation gets kinda thrown outta the window with Asuna and Kirito... :/ Hm hm...

 

Not to mention only 5/13 iM@S were "white box."

You're right! I actually had no idea she preordered both of them. She's brand new to DDs (she's known for pure neemo photos)so these two are her first.

The color in the photo is a near perfect match for her hair color in the TV series. If Volks did it right then you should be in luck. Torino's friend seems to know her way around a camera, so I'm betting she did some color matching.

Oh maaaaan Yayoi looks so adorable! And she'll look even cuter as Hannah! If Iori's head doesn't work like I hope on DDS then she'll become a different OC and I'll get an 09 for Lucy. Now I need a DDH10 MDD boy to be the younger brother for this girl. lol Part of me wants to make him tan, but that's gonna be really difficult...

Iori and Yayoi are both so pretty and sweet! They're both real winners, I love their faceups.

With the horror stories I've been reading and seeing the past few weeks I'm a little worried about dressing her at all now.

 

Is it common practice to wash the clothes first to remove any excess dye or use one of those products to lock in the dye? I guess if they were common practice everyone would do it and no outfit would ever stain a doll.

I wash a lot of my doll clothes 2-3 times before putting them on the girls, but it doesn't always get all the dye out and they still get stained. And there really isn't a reliable dye locker as you have no clue what kind of dye was even used. Every dye type has a different method. What I have learned is to not be afraid of getting your girls stained. That is just part of ownership, like having to change the oil of your car. Treat it that way and it's not a world ending event. Just treat the stain and move on. Play with and enjoy your girl, that'll make her the most happy.

That was a lot faster than expected. Unfortunately, even though it's about 3 pm the sky is really dark & rainy and there's almost no daylight, so I won't be posting photos immediately. Plus I'm supposed to be working.

Some notes:

- Easiest default set to put on

- It's really hard to dress up without a doll stand (－‸ლ)

- By far the best Volks wig I have, and easily one of my best wigs. So soft.

- I don't know what's up with her sculpt number,

 

You can also use body stockings. Coolcats has a large variety of shapes and sizes that can can be concealed under almost any outfit. You can line things like chokers with the Volks DD tape.

 

I totally 2nd this if you are really worried about staining. Or keeping your girls in light colored clothes (if that is an option for them.) It is always better to be careful than not, but staining does happen. Even Volks outfits aren't consistent in being safe *swears at Volks* and I've even had to make some tights for my boys who wear black pants I've made from an old skirt I'd washed 100's of times and it STILL stains in less than an hour. Body stockings are really the easiest way to go of not having to worry about it once the outfit is on. It's also a bonus if you know how to sew because they can even be made out of old white t-shirts. And with body stockings: the thicker the better. I've also heard mention that staining is more likely in warmer climates because of either the heat, humidity, or both. Personally I avoid outfits with black lace trim like the plague because i've had it stain in less than 5 minutes. The only exception is THIS dress I made for Hana but I made sure that it was covered in white where it was the most likely to come in contact with her vinyl. (The dress is still unfinished here, the final one has more black lace trim.)

I don't think I've ever prewashed DD clothes before. If I'm worried about staining, I either stain-test it on extra body parts (one of our MDD bodies wore out and we have plenty of extra busts) or I just don't have them wear it. Someone mentioned the Volks tape which is decent (I've found non-DD uses for it more than I use it for DD clothes, the adhesive is good) and I'd really suggest putting it on the 'VS' tag inside clothing that often is in dark blue/black. If you don't have any of the Volks tape (we got it free with Snow Miku's) you could try cream colored masking tape. The newer the tape, the better it should stick.

 

Just do your best and try not to get totally stressed out about it, because when/if it happens, there are plenty of people here on the forums that have dealt with it and can help. Most of all just be happy with your girl. Being new to the hobby can be stressful because more negative things are generally posted when people need help when something goes wrong. But there really shouldn't be a need to get overly stressed about it. I've been in the hobby for quite some time now and I still remember how stressful it was in the beginning. But in the years since I've repaired our DD bodies many times, and our original MDD body until it really was not able to be repaired, and even the other day swapped the DDdy vinyl onto a DDIII frame because a bolt came out of the DDdy upper leg and the hip joint wouldn't come off so I could repair it, no matter how hard my husband or I pulled. I've learned to mod sculpts, sand busts, and have even done an open mouth mod on one of my sculpts. These are things I couldn't have even imagined doing when we first got into the hobby and it took me 6 months to give Tamayuki his faceup because I was so terrified of screwing it up.

 

Being cautious and prepared is good, but don't let it hinder you bonding with your girl.

Mio Akiyama's wig is excellent. I'll have to compare the two when Iori arrives. I really hope Yayoi's is as good. It would really suck if those twintails are low quality.

The climate thing makes total sense to me. I think humidity is a bigger deal than heat though. I'm in a part of California where we have dry heat. I've had my Saber Lily in her lingerie set, which is known to stain, for the last few months. We had a major heatwave with temperatures as high as 108 in my area, and she is still showing no stains.

 

 

Just do your best and try not to get totally stressed out about it, because when/if it happens, there are plenty of people here on the forums that have dealt with it and can help.

 

I second that, stains will happen so don't freak out if they do. Learn how to treat them, and everything will be fine. Just be really careful about protecting the head from wig cap stains. Stain cleaning a body is easy, but heads are a pain because you have to be careful about not getting the stain removers on the face-up. It will remove that just like a stain. The silicone caps are not stain protection. If you use one to keep a wig in place put a cloth cap under it.

 

A doll can stain through the stain protective clothing, so you have to periodically remove everything and check for bleed through. If you see dark spots on the protective gear use a pretreatment to spot clean it then hand wash it.

 

I personally like to dress them up and pose them, then put them on display that way for while, so I've gotten good at protecting them with the same outfit on for a few months.

Unless it's a trick of light it does almost seem like she has an air intake. It is there in the promo photos so it's a deliberate inclusion.

Yup, it's a mini air intake. Honestly the hardest part of setting the wig is figuring out how to reveal just the right amount of forehead at the right angle, then everything looks more natural.

Often Volks crimps/flat irons the hair to add more depth to the style.

Now they just need to get past the 2 day 'black hole' that all my Volks orders seem to find between California and Washington State. If I'm lucky they should be here Friday or Saturday.
