amarilian Posted September 30, 2016 Does Volks just randomly pick animes to make dollfies from or is there a system? These are the dolls you're looking for, no you cannot haz them they r mine:)
Eustia Posted September 30, 2016 From what I have gathered over the past few years, it is more about which licence holders approach Volks to make their girls. Volks may sometimes approach them, but it seems it is mostly the other way around.
Monty Posted October 3, 2016 It's a very complex and involved system that involves one of the staff, blindfolded, throwing darts at a list on the wall. /joking, what Eustia said. (its not as bad as with Good Smile right now though. So many of the nendoroids very obviously made because a certainly licensor paid for it always end up in the bargain bin lol) I'll admit I'm sometimes surprised when I see what gets made into a DD and what doesn't. Azone seems to to follow the 'what's popular right now' thing more than Volks do for some reason. On the plus side if they went ahead making every anime I liked that I considered popular enough with the DD target demographic then my wallet would be in a lot more trouble, so I don't mind. *twitter*instagram*art*
Raentheria Posted March 12, 2017 adding to the info, it might be also because of the longetivity/ interest span of the characters they want to produce. like.... thinking about it, why do they pick Vocaloid? i believe it is because how sort of "timeless" Miku is. with the addition of Rin & Len now, i think they will somehow push forth with making Luka next (03) and possibily Kaito as their "first" (maybe) male character doll. (plus a million of their costumes from fanmade works to official ones oh good lord rip wallet).
Monty Posted March 14, 2017 Len was their first male, and unless they've got a surprise up their sleeves Kirito is their second. I love Kaito (obviously) and would probably shed actual tears if they made him but somehow I'm just not holding my breath. He's regularlty been shafted by figure companies as it is, although there IS the recently announced expensive 1:4 Freeing figure soon, which was totally left field for me. So who knows, really. I have to disagree with 'longevity' though, it's true for a lot of them but others are flavours of the month anime no one talks about anymore (ie Dog days, unbreakabale machine doll). Not to mention they haven't yet made some characters from licenses they do hold that are arguably more popular than the ones they have (ie Flandre Scarlet from Touhou). Itisamystery.jpg indeed. *twitter*instagram*art*
