It's an early prototype they showed. A doll that is a hybrid of SD and DD. So vinyl dd body with a vinyl SD styled head. The three they showed were fantasy colored, pink, pale green, and blue-grey. Think more like Visuadoll not anime styled.

 

 

They said that their work on DD is the limiting factor because they're doing a lot of new work there. They referenced Luka and a nebulous number of other characters who havent been announced yet.

 

I'm curious if those vinyl colors are ones we could see for DDs soon in like d'coord or a limited.

 

They did also say it was impressed upon them that the US wants more tan dolls.

So many exciting things in that post. I'm dying to know all the unannounced DD licenses.

And I'm really glad they addressed the tan girls, I was hoping they would. I hope if they plan to offer them outside Japan then its internationally and not just the US.

I'm glad to hear that they are realizing that the rest of the world really wants tan DDs too. Perhaps they'll have a D'COORD here in the states where you can go to get a custom girl like there in Japan. I'd drive to Cali to get me a tan girl with a 14 head.

Really though, what would give them the idea that the rest of the world doesn't want tan DDs? Volks being Volks.

My initial reaction is that it would be off-topic since it isn't a Dollfie Dream, nor, from what I can tell so far, is it in the same style. I think it's no different than the regular Dollfie line as far as topics go.

Possibly! Although the colors are still works in progress - they weren't as finalized as, say, tan skin now is, I thought. The fantasy-colored vinyl for Dollfie Icon looked partially-dyed or perhaps painted on top of DD normal skin, where I recall the skin tone having color variations especially on the hand parts. It didn't seem like a new color baked into the vinyl itself, at least thus far.

 

I suppose it could potentially show up in D'Coord as a way to test the waters later on before releasing Dollfie Icon, if they continue with the project.

 

For those who weren't at the Tea Party, Volks made sure to point out that Dollfie Icon was a prototype that isn't expected to come out for 2-3 years, if they decide to actually go further with it at all, because of how busy the DD side is right now. So, this was more of a cool thing to show off to attendees, rather than any kind of official announcement or promise just yet.

 

I hope they do eventually go forward with it - Dollfie Icon looked neat!

I had a blast at the Dolpa! Got to chat with some familiar faces and met tons of new folks

 

Doll news and takeaways:

Mr Yuji (?) from the DD Design Department gave a demo on Friday, mostly about styling Miku's wig which was similar to the tips Volks showed for that before.

QA with the Volks hosts was difficult due to the language barrier, but Mr Yuji did ask what characters and items DD Fans wanted to see. Tan skin got a lot of audience support! Male DDs were also requested by the audience. He mentioned Shantae (the tan genie girl from Wayforward's game series) as a Volks product that was popular in the US and a possible DD license, but I think most of the attendees weren't familiar with the character.

He encouraged visiting Dollpoint to try Dream Choice, and suggested that DD boys could show up there eventually. A DD boy standard is not currently planned. Unfortunately he wouldn't spill the beans on any future pre-order projects. Volks confirmed previously announced DD like Luka, 9B, and 2S.

 

At the Tea Party, Volks gave us the first look at a new product line in development called Dollfie Icon. These dolls had a DD body with a vinyl head, but the head and blushing/faceup were more like SD style. This new line is meant to have crossover appeal and was a big hit with the US fans! The fantasy skin tones and stylized heads are going to be popular with BJD fans of fantasy dolls like Soom, Peaks Woods, Fairyland, etc. The lighting was bad but I got a few pics of them on my instagram-

I dont want to get carried away but the idea of more fantasy options for vinyl dolls - even if its currently just skin colours - makes me really excited. Maybe my distant dream of one day being able to have a vinyl centaur isn't so distant. 8') (well...it probably is, but still. I really hope to see more fantasy kind of stuff coming out of the Icon line if thats the direction they're going in - even if its just more elves)

But it's the sort of thing I was hoping to see and why I've fallen in love with the corporate aspect of the tea party.

I thought it was the base vinyl color but then had the blushing on top. Didn't Mikey say that it was a new vinyl that was made to look more like pureskin? But yeah definitely, as I said an early prototype. They even said they may not happen and that the name wasn't set yet.

I do remember Mikey mentioning SD's pureskin when explaining the basic concept for Dollfie Icon. Although I thought she was using the term as a synonym for resin as for what SDs are made of, contrasting it with vinyl for Dollfie Dream / Icon when discussing how Icon would be lighter than SD. I certainly could have missed it if she said anything else about the vinyl composition (beyond the blushed skin colors), though, in the euphoria haze our tea party table was still in after two of the six folks won SD memorial one-offs.

Agreed - this was one of my favorite parts of the tea party, Volks opening up just a little about potential future ideas and soliciting feedback as a big surprise. They don't do that kind of thing typically at JP events, so that was a generous bonus for LA attendees.

 

Actually I think Volks was really generous overall in pretty much every aspect of LADP3.. With how many OOP outfits, BTSSB goods, special accessories, and one-for-all games were in the Sumika shop; plus how many dolls total they brought for people to enter for relative to the number of attendees; plus the full set of prizes from a Tokyo Dolpa Bingo game being converted into the tea party raffle giveaway event.. It was very likely that most people would find at least one special thing to bring home. Not only were they generous, the Volks staffers seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves too; Manager Hideyoshi seemed to be having such a fun time MCing.

I find it disappointing about the "no DD boy standard" news. But I guess it is no real surprise considering that bot Len and Kirito are slow to sell on the Volks International page...

I was wondering how many people actually participated the D'coord lottery. 4 out of 5 people in my group who participated in the lottery is able to bring home a DD. Hope its just because we are lucky this time.

I think the entries were pretty clustered. I had been between the tan 09 and the 11 and went for the 11. I think a lot of other people did too. I know at least one other person went for the 08 than won (the 08 was amazingly cute but I worried no one would go for her).

I went for tan 07, my friends went for MDD 01, MDD 10 and Sasara from "the best selection". we all won.
