LA Dolpa 2017!

Any decent photos of these DI dolls?

One worry I'd have about these DI dolls, is the pastel heavy face-ups might stain them a lot? I find even lightly blushed custom DD have blush color remaining after the face-up is removed. This could be solved with an airbrushed face-up, but fewer people can do those.

That's actually my instagram ^_^; The one in the middle had pale green skin according to Mikey. It's really subtle and didn't turn up well in my picture (or others I've found of the same doll).

 

JadePixel has a good photo of the one I thought they called pink skin (but pretty similar to normal)

I hope this is ok to ask here, but you've all mentioned a lot of stuff said about DDs - was anything said about SDs at all? (I'm really interested when the new standard models are coming out...and if there will be a standard boy, because it's always been odd to me that SD boys are as popular as they are and yet you can only get a SDM boy (Dai) as standard.

I don't remember specifics for SDs other than the tan and VolksUSA exclusives requests applied to them too. Which was why they did the two exclusive dearSDs.

It was really awesome seeing so many dolls in one place ! I kind of regret not trying to talk to more people and compliment you all on your lovely dolls

 

@Torino -- Seconding what Misskale said, I only remember them saying that they brought the exclusive +tan DearSDs because of the amount of people asking for them.

I was wondering how many people actually participated the D'coord lottery. 4 out of 5 people in my group who participated in the lottery is able to bring home a DD. Hope its just because we are lucky this time.

Agreed with Misskale that the entries were probably clustered. Since my family was two people we initially debated if we should split our entries between the whitehaired tan 09 and the ddh-11, or cluster on our top pick to improve our odds slightly. We ended up choosing the latter for both the D'Coords and DD Bests, throwing in two entries for DDH-11 and Sasara. Didn't get either though. I'm guessing everybody else went for them too, and understandably so.

 

With the strict rules of only one raffle ticket available per category, I was worried that some D'Coords might not have gotten a single entry. Would every one of them be somebody or other's #1 pick? But amazingly every one found a home! I was happy about that.

 

Now I did get to bring home my favorite of all the SD one-offs later on at the tea party though, which must have required my whole allocation of Dolpa Luck Points for the weekend. If that's true then I'm completely and utterly okay with that particular bargain this time around. ^^;;

SD was, as per usual, the main focus of the Dolpa festivities so there was plenty of SD stuff out there like the DearSD, Coordinate Models, and Tea Party One-Offs. Volks didn't really say anything short term news-wise about either SD or DD; the long-term potential news was about Dollfie Icon, the hybrid of the two. So no we don't know anything further about when the new standard SDs or DDs might be coming out yet.

 

They gave a nifty tutorial on painting SD heads and did mention, as others said, that the DearSDs were tan and exclusive because people asked for those things. The SD charity auction doll Amphitrite sold for a hefty $21,500. Scar-face versions of the Tenshis were given out at the tea party in honor of the Silver Coin theme. Those are some of the interesting SD-related tidbits from Dolpa.

They're real cute, but still no boy, huh. There's always way more male SDs than female ones at the meets I go to here so it surprises me that SD boys are still Full Choice and limited only.

It's really weird that they haven't released a boy honestly. They used to have standard boys (SD/SD13 Link, Ryo, Show, Kanata, and Mark?), but honestly I think maybe they were just really unpopular? (I think that's cause the molds were bad personally...) I like the girls that Volks has for standards, but it is annoying that they won't make any boys!

 

 

Also question! Does anyone know how much that One-Off Suigintou went for? The Make A Wish auction? I wanna know how far my top bid would have been blown away! XD

Can't remember the Suigintou, but the Make-A-Wish auction's top bid was $21,220 USD, I believe. I might be one number off there.

Daaayum. I was gonna put down $4k, but yeah that'd blow it away.

And that was the suigintou. Just different name. ^^

 

Also Volks is doing an after event! I hope I can get my Williams... The person who was selling to me cancelled (decided to keep), so I really hope I can get him...QQ

I checked out the list earlier today. They pulled somethings out of the store to add to this sale. So you could buy them before hand, but now you can't until next Friday. Not sure the rhyme or reason for that.

Do you know for sure that there were any leftovers of RG Williams? Since all of the Silver Coin dolls were made to order for tea party participants, prepaid, and guaranteed delivery without lottery, I assume they were probably all picked up that day. Was curious if any Silver Coin ones would show up in the AE lottery, what the story for that would have been.

 

There's a RG Williams on eBay right now at comparable-to-YJ pricing if you still want to get one.

 

The way they did the lotteries for all the other (non Silver Coin) dolls, it's unsurprising that some Megus were left over.. With only one DSD entry form per person I bet folks put their name in for the two US exclusives mostly. Maybe now the Megus will find a home!

Out of curiousity, what was the price for the MDD Arle? I'm so jealous of who ever won her.

I actually do know that there were leftovers cause Volks staff had told the person I was getting mine from that they had quite a few cancellations. I also personally know two people that had to cancel due to extreme cirbleepstances keeping them from going.

 

Plus when I emailed they confirmed they had stock, but that it was only available for LA Dolpa attendees at the event. This actually made me assume that they wouldn't be in the AE, but hey, I can dream.

 

Honestly, he's a Williams, and if Volks has shown anything it is that they loooove to rerelease Williams. I may as well wait, and see if I'll get another chance. I highly doubt this will be his only release. It just means I get to focus on my MSD army.

@Gunter Huh, I wouldn't have guessed that there'd be dolls left over even if someone got sick and cancelled; maybe in that case Volks would have been willing to let them be shipped or just picked up at the warehouse the next day if the person was local. But it souinds like at-Dolpa pickup was strict then regardless of cirbleepstance! Interesting. Thanks for the info!

 

Come to think of it.. That makes sense too as I can confirm that for the tea party one-offs it was that way. Right on the winning form it said the one-off must both be paid for and picked up on 9/2 while you were there at the tea party, and that the winning right became invalid in all other cases. So even if you won and paid on the proper day there was no shipping for any reason unless you did it yourself. I suppose it'd be consistent to treat the tea party preorder dolls the same way.

 

Out of curiousity, what was the price for the MDD Arle? I'm so jealous of who ever won her.

It was six hundred something dollars.. Maybe $635? I forget the exact figure but it was around there.

Was 20 minutes late and I missed the Strawberry Chocolate Lolita set work gives me the ability to buy the clothes...but also makes me miss the time. Truly a struggle. If anyone changes their mind on wanting that set, hit me up though?

They said it would start at 11, so at 11 I started refreshing the page, and everything disappeared from the site. It wasn't until about 11:25ish that things showed back up, and then it took a couple minuets before things showed as in stock. I was able to get everything I wanted, and then some. At least I hope I got it all, will find out for sure once they get a chance to box things up and I get the shipping notice.

Well if she decides she doesn't like the outfit, you know who to call lol. Wanted this as my new girl's first outfit and I'm not willing to pay the scalper tax on Yahoo Auctions for it. :c
