To me Volks tan looks kinda similar to the natural and fleshtone that Azone and Obitsu use in their 1/6 dolls..

I do not know how I feel about this. For them to call that skin tone tan. . . Maybe it is because I live in Florida and have fallen in love with Smart Doll tea color, but that is not what I consider tan. More of a medium tone, or a more correct normal skin tone. It is nice Volks is making the effort (even if it is a limited release). I prefer the Smart Dolls so I will be watching this release from the sidelines.

I think it looks really nice it is indeed a tan skin like by the sun, not a tan skin that always looks like that.

 

In Spanish this diference is easier because we use different words for the diferent types of skin xDDD

We use different words in English too, but somehow in the doll hobby we started calling all darker skin dolls "tan." Doll companies started making tan skin dolls and over time offered more color options, but we still call it "tan" just out of convention I guess.

FWIW, Volks called this 褐色肌, which translates to "brown skin."

Here's my Kan'u on the Smart Doll body with the M bust (which is closer to a DD L bust)

 

The colour match isn't perfect but I'm happy with it and the Smart Doll body is such an upgrade compared to the original DDdy she came on. It's also nice to have more hand options too!

No, that's Kan'u - she's one of the few tanned dolls Volks ever released.

Oh, yeah--I can see the difference on my calibrated work monitor. Can't on my home monitor though, so it's pretty subtle.

Just a theory I've had since last year or so when Volks was hinting at a male doll, but a possible set of dolls they might release are Ledo and Amy, since they now have the male body and brown(ish) skin. And they've had the license in the past for the series.

Aw man, that would be cool! But I didn't think the series was very popular, at least not enough for a DD this long after release. Odds are more likely it's a Fate-related character if they do a male or tan DD.

They only have a boy body of DDS height though, not a 'mans' body like Ledo would need. Unless they made Amy a DDP to make her shorter than him on a DDS body, which is even less likely, and neither of them would resemble the characters on those bodies.

 

If agree that Fate is probably the most likely candidate for male vinyl dolls, whether tanned or not, but who knows really.

 

There's a tanned girl in Prisma Illya, right? She could be a candidate. I'd honestly just love to see more tan releases in general, whether they're more d'coords, character dolls or standard parts.

I know the height difference look big in that picture but it seems to vary a lot in the anime, at times they appear to be the same height. You can get their official height but both volks and anime in general don't seem to put too much stock into that (Rise is supposed to be only a few cm taller than Louise).

That said though I would prefer a taller body for him, Sister height was a strange choice for the first male doll body.

 

The tanned character in Prisma Illya, Kuro/Chloe, might be a possibility since they've made a figure of her too but I'd much rather they waited until they had even darker skin to make her, since their brown skin is too light.

 

 

Honesty it's pretty up in the air who they'll do other than Hibiki from Idolm@ster, volks does plenty of dolls from the left field, like Arle. Here's hoping they continue to make more variety in skin tones though.

It's not completely out of left field, Volks has a good relationship with Sega (like all the girls from the Shining series), and Puyo Puyo's a thing for Sega right now. They included it as a minigame in Project Mirai DX for the Nintendo 3DS; you can unlock an Arle costume for Miku:

I'm surprised those are the same sculpt.

Anyway, a while back I realized I accidentally said a few months back that they were gonna have display models of Shirou and Kiritsugu, and i still don't know why I thought Kiritsugu, I had a brain fart and somehow got Kerry on the mind instead of Gil (probably because Kerry>Gil), so sorry for that stupidity, but I thought Shirou cos they said 'Emiya', which is weird, as I've never seen anyone refer to that character design as anything other than Archer. I never expected to see Archer.

(What tickles me is that's the outfit Gil's more known for in /Zero, though.)

 

I still wonder what they even do with these display only dolls after the events...do they auction them off or something? It's so weird to go through all that effort to make their outfits otherwise. Especially Archers!

I hope so...I thought it was just because it was part of the Fate event at Dollpa where they will have the display of all the related DDs in addition to these two just for show, so it had slightly more to do with DDs than SDs even though they are SDs.

But as I write this Archer has over 800 retweets and Gil over 1.2K...there's interest alright.

 

If it really happens it'd be perfect (for me) if Gil came in that /Zero set of his because his sculpt really would be perfect for a character I've been angsting over for ages, and it would cost a good deal less than his full armour. 8') An armoured DD Gil would look incredible but I dont even wanna think about how much he'd cost.

Sorry to doublepost, but this is exciting, I just went to Akiba dollpoint to get the heart hands and the tan DDdy 06 is back as a D'coord for regular sale until mid January! No lottery this time, I asked to be sure. She comes with a white wig, gold eyes and the candypop dress. I am highly tempted to buy her, but it depends how much I spend at Dollpa tomorrow.

So if any of you are gonna be in Tokyo in January, there you go. Hopefully this means they'll bring the one with the 09 head back later too.

 

The tan skin is definitely more noticeable in person, so I assume the bad photos were because of it being too bright or something. I do prefer the smartdoll tea colour still but the body and head sculpt is far closer to what I want with this DD.
