So, Tan MDDs are now a thing. Oh good lord someone is gonna make Kuro now.

Just realized that is actually only hands and busts, so it's not possible to build one from the parts.

 

Anyway there's now the Dream Choice system, so there are currently two ways to get a tan girl: D'Coord and Dream Choice, however they're still Tokyo exclusive. But it does mean that it's easier to get them in Japan given that you can now waltz into DollPoint from may-September (when the tan is in season, it's not available in the winter months apparently) and get any DD/DDS/DDdy/MDD you want, as opposed to the ridiculous gamble shiny Pokémon hunting it was before, so they will hopefully show up a little more regularly on yahoo auctions and in shopping services. It's not a huge step for the international fans but a reliable distribution method -within Japan- is still a start because it sure as hell didn't have that before.

 

Still, they better hurry up on making them available nationwide and also internationally. If we assume they added the colour in response to Smartdoll, it seems silly to keep it so exclusive. But the D'Coord popularity got it this far so hopefully the Dream Choice popularity gives it another push.

This is awesome! I guess a light cocoa DDS and MDD release is upon us. I'd love to get an 09 head, or at least hands somehow. I'm really curious about how light cocoa looks in person. Kinda sad that it's a Doll Point exclusive but it's not surprising. I guess there goes my plans for an autumn J-trip.. at least summer is concert season. I hope Volks makes these parts plus heads available internationally sooner.. following the same seasonal release schedule is alright too imo as long as everyone who wants them has a chance to order.

Gosh, I love tan dolls! I wish Volks would release stuff more readily. I mean, I feel like they'd make more money if they produced more stock, right? These dolly companies can seem pretty irrational sometimes, huh.

It's not because they don't want to make money, it's because they don't want to lose money. They have to roll these things out slowly and monitor the responses. I am positive that dream choice will allow them to see which configurations of tan skin are most popular too. I understand their reasoning (but it's still frustrating) but not immediately making everything available to everyone isn't irrational.

What's irrational is making DDH11 only a D'Coord.

Wasn't sure if I should post these here or in the DreamChoice thread, but I guess here is best. I thought I'd just post some of the various tan DDs I've found on twitter coming out of DreamChoice already.

 

First is a DCH12 (the DDH01 flat-mouth version). The owner says they customised the nose and eyebrows a little themselves.

That's actually a very very light, almost pinkish tan. I expected it to be more Kan'u-like.

Hopefully the shear flood of people that showed up to get the tan girls will get Volks to make a couple standard models and release all the option parts.

I really love the light pinkish tan! It reminds me of the milky cocoa kind of colour that of one of my tan BJDs has and I adore it so much. I'm so happy to see that Volks is slowly but surely introducing the brown skin DDs, here's to hoping that the successful launch of the Dream Choice system prompts them to have the brown skin more readily available for overseas customers as well.

 

Now I've gotta work on persuading my brother to visit the store for me in October when he's in Tokyo... xD He's not very excited about the idea of visiting doll shops, lol.

Ugh these tan girls are so cute.

I found a pic of a tan MDD with Kanu.

Here it's difficult to say which is 'darker' or 'lighter', they're pretty different colours though. Kanu definitely looks more yellow/orange-toned whereas the new tan is more red/pink-toned.

I wonder how much of the difference is due to different color initially or just aging. Paler dolls get a yellow tone as they age so maybe this is the same thing here?

Could be both things, but I think Kanu's skin tone is called golden sunlight or something.

Or that could be Sanjie's tone name. Mitsuki mentions the name in her comparison post.

Either way though I think Kanu is intentionally more golden tan than the new pinker toned tan, plus any possible yellowing that may occur.

Nope, it's just hands and busts at the moment but as far as I know they're not limited to summer and neither are the d'coords, only dream choice. I'm hoping for a seamless torso eventually.

I imagine they'll add replacement frame parts eventually as well as more parts.

If they eventually add all parts then it wouldn't be too hard to buy that and just blush a head to match...

Ohh, that's pretty awesome that the tan optional parts aren't limited to summer like dream choice! Hopefully I can get my friend to stop by Doll Point to get a set of hands since it looks like they'll be going to Tokyo way before I'll be able to. xD

That's just what I was thinking. I would LOVE for my Kanu to be able to have more than one style of hands..... and her red gloved ones certainly don't work too well if I have her dressed up in something pretty.
