Sunrise x smart doll

I'm a pretty big Cowboy Bebop fan so I was looking forward to seeing some of the pictures of Spike. But uh...yeah. Kind of a let down. Maybe the whole thing will look more polished and better when the doll is actually finished (or at least that's what I'm hoping) I have my fingers crossed for sure.

I think Spike would look better as a BJD because of its semi-realistic face with strong facial features.

 

Someone like Immortality of Soul would have done a good job with Spike.http://dollios.us/index.php they have done anime male character dolls before, my favorite so far is Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler . They always look exactly like the character. http://www.dollios.com/gallery2?number=67

 

 

God that Grell is spot on. So is Levi. If they make a Spike I'd likely go get a resin one.

I guess i set my expectation too high for this release sigh i dont know whats wrong with the face sculpt but something looks not quite right, IMHO danny should hire new sculptor (not 3d sculptor but hands sculptor) lol even newest kotobukiya scale figures face looks more like spike because theyre not sculpted by aplication but by hands.

This issue isn't so much the medium as the artist using it. You can make wonderful things in 3D sculpting that look just as good as by hand, just like you can hand sculpt something that looks absolutely horrible. Plus, despite artist changes in the past they still have the overall same style so Danny is probably pretty heavy handed with his aesthetic to the point where the artist doesn't make much of a difference.

Very, VERY true. We actually had a discussion about this in another Smart Doll thread--was it Chitose's? Might have been.

This definitely looks to be the case. Danny, your customers are not you. Shoving your no-teeth flatface aesthetic on us will not work, because you cannot force us to like what you like. >.<

Although for the head I am still trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with it. I still say it's the eyes too far in his head.

 

I feel its ALL the things about the head - the eyes are too inside the head, the face-up is too grumpy, the scale of head-size to body is weirdly off.... For the tallness of head, his face should be a bit wider...

This whole doll is... It's really not good at all. the head is bad enough but the clothes as well look so cheaply made. I wish Danny would listen to feedback but his attitude and responses to his fans are getting worse and worse.

Perhaps all the good response to the release of Mirai and the start of his Smartdoll line has gotten a little to his head?

Poor Spike he really should have waited.

I quite frankly don't understand how Danny could have this aesthetic... I mean you finally have the capability to make your own dolls and this is what you do? Why?!??!

I also think Danny may be going a bit too fast with putting things out. We are using to long waits in this hobby in order for things to be right.

Honestly, as someone said in this thread(sorry if I didn't get your name) Danny should focus on characters which are in the same height/proportions as his current dolls. As with the example of Miho, she is a very short character(around Dollfie Dream Pretty size) and she is very out of place with her mature tall smart doll body. Same case with Spike, his proportions are off(the chest and shoulders issue) because he's not using a custom body but a regular male smart doll body.

 

and of course there is the face sculpts as well but... yeah... If he wants to stay in this "style" he should at least work on proportioned dolls if he wants to go for much more "advanced"(short, tall but thin, super hero V, buff etc) characters.

I agree that Danny should have focused on characters that fit the current smart doll bodies first. Spike looks really odd without his broad shoulders. I'm not sure if Danny could or would rectify that at this stage of development. I want better pictures of his face though. His serious expression scared me at first, but the smiley version gives me some hope that it might not be that bad.

 

Also, it was just announced that Code Geass is getting a sequel.. GuP and Frame Arms are also getting new anime projects too. I wonder if that's means that there'll be more Cowboy Bebop. xD

I would be mad if they mad more Cowboy Bebop - I really dont like remakes/sequels for the sake of it.

 

Anyway, back on the Code Geass front, he formally announced Lelouche today, not that it was a secret, but you can see what is clearly CC in the background here.

Hopefully they turn out better than Spike. At least the leggy girl smartdoll body seems well suited to clamp's designs.

 

Still no word on when they're shown, though.

I may be interested in a CC. Though I've yet to see one of Danny's head/face designs I like. Probably better off just making a custom DD. Though buying a whole girl outright without the chore of commissions and all has its appeals.

He's posted this. But unsure if he plans to make this as his next Code Geass character. It seems that it will be the last character other than what others are expecting.
