...If the eyes aren't too far apart this could work for somebody of mine! Once I see it more finished I'll have a better clue I think. Like, it could go one of two directions. One will be awesome and the other will mean a villian of mine is getting made much sooner than I figured, and god he's one of the nastiest. I'll just keep him away from Celia if so then...

I would LOVE a Viktor doll but I'm gonna be blunt, I am really not keen on a smartdoll of him. I gotta admit I have less and less faith that smartdoll is the company that could pull those characters off. Not now, at least. Maybe in the future but to be honest if anyone makes a Viktor I'd rather it be Volks or Dollk after seeing Spike. Maybe Lelouche will renew my faith in Danny's line of male character based dolls but that feels like a big maybe at this point, especially considering how easy it would be to screw Viktor up. I'm also worried that in an attempt to get him out while the show is still relevant, he'd be terribly rushed, and even more so with how much Danny is currently trying to do at once.

 

He's also hinted at Angelic Layer and Chobits which I'd much rather he do, I think they're both a much better match for his aesthetic (although I hope if he does do Angelic Layer he makes them Pocket smartdolls because it wouldn't make sense otherwise, unless he does the human characters first) and I'm much more eager to see those. (To be honest I kinda think the Volks Chii was pretty ugly lol and really didn't look like her)

He also posted a picture of XXL bust after the Villetta tease, and that makes me kind of excited! Because if he really offers her with the XXL bust as a standard instead of the usual small bust, then I'd be all over that! (no extra cost for purchasing an extra bust when the standard bust won't ever be of use? yes please)

I'm hoping for unblushed, because blushed would be more expensive and I don't care for it enough to pay the extra dollar!

Yeah I understand the concern, especially considering how Spike ended up so far. I'm really hoping that Lelouch and the other Code Geass Smart Dolls do their characters justice to show that Danny can pull off doing accurately depicted licensed character dolls in the long run. I kind of wonder if YOI will continue being popular for several years like Free!. If it gets a second season announcement(!) I'm sure the hype will still be there and it would allow for more Smart Doll development time. I am worried about how many projects Danny's working on though. I think he mentioned working on 9 or so dolls before? And he keeps hinting at other possible dolls (Nami from One Piece too??) so I hope he can manage his time/resources well and still deliver great dolls while not overworking himself.

 

I should get around to actually start reading Angelic Layer lol But it looks like the 1/6 Smart Dolls would be good for the dolls in that series. I'm kind of so-so on Volks's Chii. I can sort of see where they were going with that sculpt but it could've been a lot better to look more Chii-like. But at least it has a lot of potential after modding as DDH-01.

Plus I would like to see Danny succeed at making something look appealing even if I know I probably won't get it haha.

I've actually been thinking about spike's sculpt lately... It does work for an OC of mine, and a new faceup would likely fix the faults I can find. He has quite the long, narrow face with a cold/grumpy expression. And if Danny makes larger male bodies sometime soon, then that solves the scale problem, and I'm okay with a wait, most of my girls don't have the exact body I want for them just yet, so I could deal. Still a little shocked that the OC in question is Samael of all people though, I was thinking it'd be a long long time before I made him. Let's just say I hope he decides to behave better here than in the actual story.

 

I think a part of my initial dislike had a lot to do with the fact that he was so far from what I was expecting, and I still don't think he's a good representation of spike, but I think he might suit my purposes. I do hope his nose goes out a bit further than Eiji's does, (which is my only serious gripe with him) and it does look like that's the case.

 

Finding appropriately sized purple, anime styled eyes for him is going to be tons of fun though, I'm sure of it. -.-

Not saying it's not exciting... but following past trends, isn't likely CC is going to be one of Danny's already established Mirai, Chitose, etc sculpts with a green wig and those eyes? That's the only reason I'm really not interested in any of the new female dolls- it's always the same sculpt. I'm all for anticipation but seeing it yet again is somewhat anticlimactic.

The Lelouch preview looks pretty good. Mind you, I know nothing about the character never having watched the show but it is on my watch list. I might just have to bump it up on the list though so I can see if he is someone I would like to have. I still have hope for Spike and look forward to see Danny's final version. Who knows Danny might incorporate all of our suggestions. It isn't too late after all.

The above says it all for me. Danny has said many times that the Spike faces he's shown are prototypes. That word in itself means that it's NOT the final design. With as open as he was for input on Eiji, I really think that he's taking in as much info and comments as he can on Spike in order to produce something that almost everyone will like.

 

Maybe Danny will make drastic changes and Spike will be amazing. Maybe he won't. But at least he's trying to do something different and keep people in the loop.... unlike Volks who still seems to not give two sh*ts about the North American market.... or any other market besides Japan.

Did anyone give Danny specific constructive criticism on Spike (or any other recent project)? I know a lot of comments were made in this thread, but that won't change anything if Danny doesn't receive suggestions. Though, I don't think it'd be a good idea for Danny to read this thread

I think it would be nice if someone can compile a whole TL;DR version of the complaints and send it to him in an email(preferred) or a twitlonger at Twitter.

@Yukamina: Mimiyo gave him honest critique that was as kind as possible and he implied she and people who complain about his work are 'emo', which is why I don't have high hopes about him listening to it. I'm more hoping that the fact that almost no one as far as I know has said they want the doll after the reveal will be what gets him to rethink it.

Yeah, I was polite and detailed, and he got rude with me. :/ I think for whatever reason Danny isn't up for listening to criticism anymore unfortunately. Even if it isn't reworked he'll probably be okay for my purposes, but I will look into additive modding to give it more jaw detail on the sides, making the narrowness more proportionate. It'll be a learning experience plus that OC has such an odd face that I don't expect another chance at a face even like that.
