SylvanJade Posted October 7, 2016 Ok, so I tried the make a circle skirt for the 1st time using a sewing machine... I have to say, it was really hard, mostly, I think because of how small the clothing is. (And of course I've never used a sewing machine before, and managed to not only get my thread tangled, but ALSO break my machine's needle, which I didn't even know was possible...) Anyway. Here is Jayde with her new skirt, and trying out some new poses and lighting. I hope you like.
galatia9 Posted October 8, 2016 She is sweet! She's so cute as a blonde, and the colors of the skirt look pretty on her. I love DD Mirai. baldylox Posted October 8, 2016 I agree.... she's completely adorable and the blonde wig looks perfect for her! Nice work on the skirt too. That last photo of her reminds me of a girl from the 50's getting ready to go to a sock hop dance! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. sinclair Posted October 12, 2016 Skirt looks nice. Any pointers for those of us that want to also try to make a skirt? I'm not sure my wife would like it if I break her machine's needle.
etoile Posted October 12, 2016 Oh how cute! The print on the fabric looks adorable on her, especially with that blonde wig! If you don't mind me asking, what kind of waist did give the skirt. I'm currently working on a bubble skirt right now and I'm not sure if I should even both with clasps or if just going for elastic would be the way to go. Can't wait to see what you sew next! :
SylvanJade Posted October 13, 2016 Hey all, Thank you so much for the wonderful comments. I'm happy to hear others find her as cute as I do (I'm very biased lol). To answer the skirt questions, Etoile, I used 9 inches UNstretched elastic. It works really well for me and I haven't tried clasps or buttons yet. I bet 8 inches would work too - 9 is a little loose, but I want it that way to help avoid staining. I use a circle skirt pattern, but I cut one side so that it's easier to sew the elastic on. You have to stretch the elastic while sewing it on, which is difficult due to their small waists. I should really write up a tutorial with pictures, because it took me 2 weeks to figure out a method I can make a skirt in under 30 minutes now. I also made the white shirt she is wearing. It's not well done, but I replicated it successfully with another shirt for her (I'll post pics of that soon too). If I made a tutorial, where should I post it? Thanks again everyone - you brought a smile to my face today.
Mario Posted October 13, 2016 I would love a tutorial for this! Honestly I wish there was more clothing tutorials here in the Dollfie Dreams forum. You can stick your tutorial in Clothes, Wigs, Jewelry and Items section here. http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewforum.php?f=
SylvanJade Posted October 13, 2016 Hi Mario - thank you! I'll work on getting a tutorial up as soon as I can. I'll do one for a skirt and one for a shirt. ^.^ I am no master at sewing by any means (I just started with a sewing machine 2 weeks ago) but I really enjoy being able to pick out my fabric and decide how I want things. etoile Posted October 14, 2016 Hmmm..... I may have to go with the elastic then, even though I was originally thinking of using clasps to avoid blocking up the waist with elastic. I plan on having the waist above the sienna orange shirt but I may have to tuck it under and just make my poor girl some more clothes X3 And I would love to see a tutorial on here! It would be nice to get a few more on the site to help everyone and their girls!
SylvanJade Posted October 16, 2016 Hi etoile! I started with elastic because it seemed easier. For example, if I got the size wrong, I felt the elastic would still help it fit properly. I definitely want to try snaps, velcro or even zippers later on. I looked at zippers at some art stores and they're all so big! Maybe I'll have to special order those... Anyway, I just posted a tutorial for this skirt in the Clothes, Wigs, Jewelry and Items area of the forum. I hope you enjoy.
etoile Posted October 16, 2016 Yeah, I've been having a lot of trouble with finding zippers, as well. Not to mention buttons! I found a few that didn't look too big but they were so thick, it didn't work even if they looked like they were nearly in scale. I have a feeling that finding appropriate notions is just going to drive me crazy! Thank you so much for the tutorial! I'm going to go check it out right away! SylvanJade Posted October 18, 2016 Oh, I haven't even started looking at buttons or snaps. I hope those aren't hard to find in small sizes...I've been having a hard time finding hair clips too.
etoile Posted October 18, 2016 I have a few hair clips that the person I purchased Clara from sent with her..... But I'm not sure where she got them! I did find a tutorial on making earmuffs (http://fantasywoods.net/how-to-earmuffs/) that I think wouldn't be hard to convert to headbands, though. It might be a nice Sunday project. SylvanJade Posted October 21, 2016 I'm going to have to look through the internet to find some proper hair clips, lol. If I find any, I'll let you know. And I am definitely going to use that earmuff tutorial!! That's a great find, thank you! I'll probably try this out once I start working on her Christmas outfit. So many plans, so little time! etoile Posted October 21, 2016 Haha, tell me about it! It seems like work and school is picking up just as I am starting to come up with sewing ideas. All I want to do is sew and play with dolls XD
