Both her legs, feet, and belly look like this. It's from some mesh stockings that I washed 3 times. They are black, but the staining is all blue!? So much for going out on Halloween. I looked at maybe even just buying all new parts, but that isn't cheap, and they don't sell the lower torso/bottoms. They are out of Dream Rescue too. She had them on for a couple days, I didn't see anything last night, but tonight when I picked her up I noticed. Oh well, she was so enjoying not being in a body stocking, guess that'll change.

Oh wow. So sorry to hear about your experience. Stains are never fun but a few days with some Oxy10 (10% benzoyl peroxide) or RemoveZit should take care of that stain. I once stained my Beatrice's head really badly when I put on a dark wig on her even though she had a wig cap on that I cried because I thought she couldn't be saved. Good thing I saw about RemoveZit on the forums, tried that and had her under the lamp for a few hours each day with the rest of her face covered and after about a week or two the stain was gone. There should be a tutorial somewhere about removing stains here in the forums. Hopefully you can get your hands on either ine of the two stain removers I mentioned and get your girl's legs cleaned up.

Black and red are definitely the colors of evil for DDs. I had the cat ears from the Moonlit Cat set barely touching Cynthia's ear for a short time and it stained a deep blue. I wasn't happy about having stained a limited head (not exactly rare or unique, but still) a mere week after having acquired it, but I got it unstained. At this point she probably also has stains on her headcap even though I use a wig cap, because she wears a black wig.

Amber has fallen prey to red on two occasions. Once I foolishly put her in the Mikuzukin set without a body stocking under the assumption that it was lined and would be fine. However, there are red threads exposed underneath the outfit which I hadn't taped, and they gave poor Amber bright red spots around her shoulders. A great deal of time after that, I was dressing her in the Mademoiselle set while she was in a body stocking and discovered that set stains bright red instantly on contact with vinyl when it briefly touched her arm. I managed to successfully treat both of those stain events.

Even body stockings aren't entirely safe. Amber has a little black dot on the back of her leg from when I had her in dark stockings over a bodystocking. I haven't tried to remove it, because in this case I feel it gives her character.

So far Tecra hasn't become stained to my knowledge. She is in a bodysuit all the time. However, it has been a couple of months since I switched her outfit. She's been in Classical Rose Waltz for some time. I probably need to check if the patterned stockings have done anything.

I wish you luck in helping Miku with her stain problem. I've found the keys are patience and heat lamps. I bought myself a couple of 50W floodlight bulbs specifically for that purpose. But all my girls are normal skin.

The stains actually look pretty faint, and I have seen some rescued dolls who started out looking much worse. Don't lose heart! Be sure to check out the customization and maintenance threads for help and encouragement.

I have some DDs whose heads are stained very badly from dark wigs. But they're always going to have to wear wigs, so I have gotten used to it. I'm more careful with the limited ones, but only a little bit. I want to enjoy my dolls and handle them without worrying.

welcome to basic color theory =P black is never black, it's dark blues like woah

But no need to panic, this type of stain is so damn common I think majority of DD owners just treat it like "oh, that again... lemme grab the zit-away" without missing a beat now

until DreamRescue comes back to Volks, just pop out to Target (or CVS, or Walgreens.. u know average shop with row of acne meds) and get some benzoyl peroxide gel, 'max strength" 10% stuff

Remove-Zit by Twin Pines of Maine

http://www.twinpines.com/

Remove-Zit was formulated by a patent holding chemical engineer specifically for stain removal on vinyl dolls and action figures. It uses similar active ingredients (peroxides) found in the acne creme home remedy but without all the extra components for human skin care, some of which might discolor vinyl.

This stuff predates the Volks product by almost 10 years. All peroxide base solutions lose potency with time. With the Volks product you have no idea how long it's been sitting around. Your Remove-Zit order is mixed up fresh when you order it, guaranteeing full potency.

I have been using Remove-Zit for over 8 years and have removed dozens of stains without discoloration or other unexpected side effects. After proper application Remove-Zit will need to be washed off. You can use a mild detergent, but Formula 9-1-1 (also from Twin Pines) is the best for the job. Formula 9-1-1 is also good for minor soil.

Yes these products cost more than running down to the drugstore for a tube of Oxy10, but they are made for stain removal on vinyl not skin care and they are worth it.

Great to know. I know I have to get a new one as the 10% benzoyl peroxide I have doesn't work as well as the RemoveZit. Have you used their Boost formula for doll clothes? My Lily's default could use a refresher.

While it does suck that your girl got some stains, just remember this statement that was told to me when I first got into this hobby over 6 years ago....

"Your DD girl isn't truly YOURS until she gets her first stain."

Basically, this just means that you love your girl enuff to take her out and about and get her lots of different types of clothing and she doesn't just sit on a shelf somewhere getting only occasional attention. These girls are made to be played with and enjoyed so stains are pretty much guaranteed.

Using the treatment methods of either Oxy10 or Remove-Zit is the best way to clean up your girl and get her back to 100%. I only use the Oxy10 stuff as it has worked extremely well for me but if K-2 says Remove-Zit is good then I'm inclined to believe him.

So don't let her staining get you down. It's just a part of owning a vinyl doll!

Billy

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

I have not. 99% of my doll's clothing is (or was) new so it hasn't needed any refreshing. I have laundered a few items in the sink with Woolite.

I am curious about D-stinker. Recently someone here was struggling with what they thought was an odor coming from their doll's vinyl. Having not smelled this odor I can't really say what it was. I would wonder if this product would be effective.

black is always a mixture of red/yellow/blue. It's interesting how mixing those 3 gives you black. Depending on the dyes used it will almost always be blue that comes off the fabric.

You ever have a tshirt or article of clothing that fades after years of washes? it will always fade towards 2 of the 3 primaries, usually away from blue I find.

You should see the stains jenn has on her head from a white silicone head wrap. It's rather weird that such dark stains came as a result of contact with the silicone. Either something happened chemically that leeched from a wig cap or something from the manufacture of the silicon cap was not washed and reacted with the pvc.

not much you can do about it... treat it as best you can and move on.

It was Cotton's Sheryl Nome.

Whelp, after weighing the pros and cons I took this opportunity to order another set of body parts for her. This will allow me to have clean parts for her, and give me the dirty ones to practice with on treating stains without her being stuck on the desk for a week or two (I'm not sure I could stand not having her at my side that long as she's my only girl.). This'll also give me an extra leg to test outfits for staining before I put them on her. Sure, it's not the cheapest solution, but it's one that works for me I think as I am so new to this. Now I need to order the stuff K-2 listed, and then get a light bulb and be ready to work. Thanks all.

Trust me, I live by that, and not just with my girl. You know I have trains too. One is Lionel's most recent best of the best version of my favorite locomotive (Which means it's not cheap.). You won't believe (Or you just may.) the number of other model train people that "fainted" when I posted a video of my then 2 year old "racing" it on the living room floor. Sure, he could of tripped and fell on top of the locomotive and caused some damage, but we were having fun and enjoying the locomotive. There are no shelf queens in my home with my stuff.

I stained my Miku within a week of having her. Twice. Fortunately, they aren't where they can be easily seen. I'm glad to see all of the advice for removing the stains, and I hope it's an easy process for you, sinclair.

Ditto, I stained my Miku with her Mikuzukin set right where the shoulders are, first week too.

I need to try some methods to remove her stain.

I haven't stained my girl yet - I'm sure it'll happen any day now.

I'm not too worried though - I actually want to buy her extra limbs and such so I can mod a set to have wires poking out and such (she's a cyborg).

The new parts came quick (I love how Volks USA 2 day ships everything.) and they are now on Miku, she's happy to be stain free again. What a fun time that was taking her apart and putting the new parts together, not for the faint of heart. And my 1st time with the new vinyl smell, took me a while to figure out what it was (She had already aired out by the time I got her as she was from the original 2014 run.). Now to order the cleaning stuff, figure out the light bulb to get, and clear a spot out in the bedroom to clean legs.

For the bulbs, I just picked up a pack of two 50W halogen indoor/outdoor floodlights while I was at the grocery store. I just stick it in my flexi lamp I use for reading at night.

I've used Dream Rescue to treat stains. I've already learned it's a good idea to snag a jar when Volks has it available. I smear a bit on the stain to get coverage, then I place the flexi lamp shining on the stain from a inch or two away so it can supply heat. Then I go do something else for several hours/the rest of the day. It usually takes two or three treatments.

There's an excellent tutorial somewhere here on DollfieDreams, which is where I learned this stuff.
