DDS Freyja Wion and Santa Saber Alter

I want 1/3 scale transforming fighter, maybe a YF-21.

Agree with other folks, she's cute but looks oddly like Uzuki and the other imas girls in terms of head sculpt. I'm not familiar with this series but the idol character designs don't look appealing to me, though I could be tempted by a DD Mirage :3

 

Wonder if Volks is going to announce one more DD release for this year?

The big thing for me is that all the eyelashes in Delta have an aesthetic that's just lost here. For example, Mikumo,

Hm. . . might be possible to rectify a lot of that with a faceup, but that DOES kind of beg the question of why Volks went with such a bland, blunt faceup to begin with.

I agree. I like how she looks in the photos and a custom face up to capture that look would be fabulous. Like almost everyone not familiar with the Macross franchise, I thought she was an Idolmaster girl and said to myself that she looked no different from everyone else.

I went and compared her photo to my Mio and Uzuki, and I don't think they look all that much alike. Freyja's has very chubby cheeks, and different eyes. Uzuki's cheeks are narrower than Mio's, but even Mio's aren't that chubby.

 

Where they are similar is the smile and the chin. It seems like that particular smile sculpt gets used a lot.

 

Either way I'm totally safe from her.

 

I have zero connection to Macros, but If they did Lacus Clyne, Lunamaria Hawke or Murrue Ramius from Gundam I'd be sunk.

My Mio has a super pointy chin. In the photos, Freyja's doesn't look quite that pointy (thank goodness).

That's more like what Freyja's eyes should be like too.

 

 

To me she really does look like Uzuki. There's the general shape of the head that goes to a pointy chin, the similar smile, and the way they did the eyelashes really looks like a variation of Uzuki. I know if I actually look at Uzuki she looks really different (so cute!), but there's more similarity than there needs to be. Also faceup fail, the sculpt really might be better than what's painted on it.

 

I wonder how they do that actually, who designs the faceups (・・?) Maybe they have a base illustration and the sculptor sculpts to that, and someone else (uncredited?) paints the face? The faceups usually have the same style regardless of who the sculptor is. Like Saber vs. Rin v1. They've been branching out a bit with different styles lately (like Takane), but generally they haven't varied much over the years.

She really looks odd. I dont know why but her face..and i dislike her wig. Too bad i do own Ranka and really love her! Would have been so cool to add another Macross girl to my collection

She's very cute and charming in the blog pics. With her youthful chubby cheeks, she might also work well customized onto a MDD or DDP body.

Mio may have a sharper point to her chin, but Freyja still has the pointed chin and anime style nose that is the norm for most anime characters. When you add in the way they keep sculpting the same smile onto so many faces it makes them look too much alike. Personally I think the faces overall are different, but the difference is in the cheeks and the eyes. Freyja's eyes seem to come to a point in the corner where Mio's are round, and Freyja's cheeks look chubbier to me.

I don't think they've ever done a lottery with only one doll :/ Especially for the December ones which are the Dolpa at Tokyo Big Sight. I was thinking it'd either be Mikumo or Mirage.

Oh, her idol outfit is so cuteeee! But I also think her sculpt and faceup aren't really different from what we've been getting lately. I wonder if the other preorder doll will be from a different franchise..

I was kind of thinking the same thing; with it being December it seems unlikely they would do just one. They could do two different series like last year. If it's another IM@S doll right on the tail of three in the pre-order people are going to be displeased.

I see now how her face is a bit different but she still looks idolmaster-ish. I think what's making them kind of blend together are the noses. I feel like the older DD had different nose shapes, while still being anime styled.

The idol girls have very small non-descript almost pinched noses. From her art design I kind of see why he chose to go with that style, but it doesn't differentiate her from the other girls.

 

I also agree that if they hadn't done such a bland face-up it could have pulled her together more, make her look like she was from a different series. She definitely should've had those cute eyelashes.

 

I'm interested to see the other girl, but what will they do with those lashes? They're pretty defining.

If I'm parsing it right, she's a tribute to a Japanese magazine editor? She is stunning, and way more unique than most of Volks offerings lately overall, but between the unusual aesthetic and the whole tribute thing, she miiiight wind up being a one-off.

Anyways, I'd love to see more things like this even if it is just re-using of molds. To be fair, I would just really like Volks to consider doing one-offs of their DD (they've done special ones before, but those are mostly auction dolls), but I know why they really can't. Still, I'd be totally okay of cool, different theme'd one-offs of their own Akihabara Girls molds. Maybe it'd inspire them to make more of their own original characters too.

On a more on-topic note, the sad idea that you need a NEW face-up to make it look more like the original portrayal actually really bothers me. I feel like if you want the doll for the character you should hopefully never have to do more than put that one payment down. Oh well, I guess, can't always hit the mark on the character. Yes, a magazine editor who is is credited with boosting the self image of women with his work, and who was also into dolls. That particular doll seems to be created in the image of one of his cover illustrations.

 

If they didn't get Frejya's face-up right then it's kind of sad. Of course the face sculptor has to create depth in faces that are two dimensional painted cells, so to some degree each head is it's own original work, but...

 

When so much of an anime characters uniqueness and individual persona comes from the details painted on those cells it's a shame if they don't include those details.

I don't know who she is but I want the hair and eyes to create my own Sakura!

 

I will wait for the head to show up on J!P or ebay to start hunting down those eyes *_* an open mouth would have won me over!
