Oh my, the lottery dolls this time are so tempting! Freya's sculpt is perfect for another OC, and Saber Alter's been on my wishlist since I entered the hobby. It's a shame that Freya's probably International only, though.

 

You can enter the international lottery though the volks.co.jp website. It's just you are competing with the whole world and it's doll collectors instead of just a subculture in North America.

Even if we can enter through International, I do wish that Volks could make more limited dolls available through VolksUSA. Not that I mind shopping Int'l, but I'd like to support them here as much as I can.

How are you planning to do it? 3D Print only?

 

I made a Mario "DD" head (it's fully finished with hair, eyes and all but I can't help to feel disappointed he's not vinyl. xD Not sure if I should post a picture, since I already have gone off topic.

I have tried to do so much research on how to even get your hands on the chemicals but no dice.

Apparently you have to contact a company to do so, but creating just a head mold can range around $1,000.

 

We should probably start a thread on custom 3D printed heads. And see if anyone could ever find a way to make it into vinyl.

Yeah, I'm very curious how this goes, Youpla! Especially color match and the neck socket/attachment. You using Maya, it looks like?

 

As for the model, love it! I especially like how you pulled in elements of the eye and face shape from the default head, so you could totally have both heads be used for the same character whenever you felt the need for a change.

I'm certainly happy that the Saber Santa outfit is a separate thing. I sure wasn't about to go for another Alter 2.0 just to get the costume.

Okay, back on topic now (I'll have to hunt down that 3D thread...). Volks USA has posted their lottery site for the Saber items, here. In reply to my question on the Facebook post announcing the site, they said the payment period would be open for a week after the lottery results go out, so you'd have to pay end of December. I'm still torn on wither or not to put in for her. Sure I'd love to have her, but then I'd have to hunt down some other matching to my other girls things. This hobby is so hard/stressful sometimes.

well, if u want an Alter - this is the best chance to try for her? I mean, sure Alter ver II was a pre-order few years back so she's fairly common on Y!J, but here you'd get her with a sturdy new body (baseIII when first introduced had a tendency to crack at certain spots) and without having to worry about shipping/middleman fees/exchange rates

I kinda figured this would be my best shot at getting her at a decent price, so I'll probably enter.

 

As for matching, it's more the other way around, I'd need to get something while I still can for Saber that Miku (and Yaya.) already have. I fear it'll be sold out before the results of the lottery, but then I could always go ahead and get the outfit, because honestly, am I really not going to get another doll (Or two, or 20!?). And then I'd want to find the DD Saber Alter dress she came with when released prior.

Whenever they release a new picture of the outfit makes me want it more. ><

Haha I did a REALLY good job at ignoring Saber until I realized the lottery was open. I looked at the official page/images with my fiance and we just gave each other this look. Then the conversation went like,

"....She's not that expensive..."

"Well... we have always wanted a Saber..."

"....."

"....Joint Christmas gift?"

 

And so we have two lottery entries. I hope the win rate is better this time :/ I'm afraid of not wining now.

I entered too for Saber. I'm hoping that since the outfit can be had separate that there will be less wanting the doll thus giving me more odds to get it.

Yes! Hahah. Glad I'm not alone. I work in a kitchen/bar/venue and I'm always thinking in tips for my doll spending like..... girl, you can make that in two weeks just do it it's not that bad. It's getting me into trouble though, but you know... just one more doll~

I am, I've totally set my heart on her (And thus setting myself up for heartbreak. Sigh...). And trying to forget is also failing for me. 5 more days until the lottery is closed, then ~20 more days until the lottery announcement, and ~3 more months, (90+ days!!!) before she gets here (Actually, 4 more months as I forgot to add the extra month for her to get to the USA from Japan.).

I definitely see what people are saying and illustrating. Just the feel I get from watching Macross Delta is that Freyja is perkier (for lack of a good word to describe what I'm talking about).

 

However, for such an exaggerated emotional roller coaster of a character, it's odd how many stills of her look incredibly peaceful and serene.

 

The DD seems to be capturing that snapshot type of effect, while I look at the face and don't even remotely see the kind of character I'm expecting.

I do know there's a few places that sell custom-made versions of her Hollow Ataraxia dress on ebay, maybe you should try there? And her clothes for the 10th anniversary edition are available on mandarake fairly often!
