youth Posted November 5, 2016 Anyone have experience with your DD's arriving with moderate box damage from USPS and what resolution if any you got from either USPS or Volks? I'm feeling a bit sick/angry to have spent $700+ to have my Rin arrive in this condition & the feeling that USPS & Volks won't really care since it's just the box. I have seven other girl & they never arrived this bad. I feel like a DD's box especially for a character printed one has a value but how much? The ideal situation to me would be Volks shipping a replacement box.
galatia9 Posted November 5, 2016 You can inquire at the post office, since the item was shipped via EMS, but I don't think you'll be able to get money back from them for just the box being damaged. I'm assuming the contents are all fine? I would ask Volks if they would replace the box. If all else fails, you could always ask someone to sell their empty Rin box to you. Good luck! Yukamina Posted November 5, 2016 The DD box is part of the contents, though. EMS includes insurance, so they should compensate you for the damage. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
sinclair Posted November 5, 2016 Because this is a limit release, I doubt Volks has extra boxes, or extra doll in box. Your choices will be either be happy the doll and outfit are okay, or return the doll with broken box on your dime (Or some cases you'll be asked to destroy the doll and box and provide photographic evidence.) to get a refund for the doll and then have to hunt for one on the 2nd hand market. Yes, it is maddening that the box showed up this way (Trust me, I know how you feel. Image a $2700 model locomotive showing up in a box looking worse than this!) but did you really buy it for the box? What's important is that the doll (And in my case the locomotive.) is okay. The box is merely a means to protect the contents in transport, which it did.
youth Posted November 5, 2016 My Len arrived today after & he was fine. I understand the box is just to protect the contents but as a collectible I feel it's more then that since it effects it's value. I can come to terms with this since I really wanted Rin & don't ever plan on resale, but feel some compensation is warranted. How much would you say a box is worth? missadventure364 Posted November 5, 2016 I absolutely understand your frustration, and I would be horrified to see a box arriving in that condition. When you pay so much for something you expect it to come in good condition, and not be damaged during shipping. We all had to pay a ridiculous amount of shipping and handling charges, Japanese tax and fees, as well as for insurance. I would definitely try to file a claim at very least. The worst they can say is no.
galatia9 Posted November 6, 2016 I don't think there is any way to set a value on just the box. And as sinclair mentioned, in order to get any kind of settlement from the post office, you might have to surrender the entire package to get total compensation. They might not do partial compensation. But the only way to find out is to ask. Personally, I would ask Volks first, they might make things right. It still might be possible for them to replace the entire doll, or just the box. Volks is notorious for making you return something before they replace it. All you can do is ask. youth Posted December 7, 2016 For whatever reason I can't file an international claim for my damaged Rin box on the USPS site. It says the tracking number is not valid. Volks can't do anything with Japan Post since they say that it is on USPS now. But they have offered me a new box if I pay for shipping (2,000yen) & destroy the old one. USPS is nothing but trouble. But hey, I am sure all postal systems are bad in their own special way.(In my area I got the same issue with my Volks box). It also had the "Fragile: handle with care" label on it :/ Worst of all, Volks USA lives an hour away from me. So SOMEHOW USPS managed to badly damage my box within an hour drive. But on the good side Volks offering a new box actually not bad. If you really care about having a nice box,(which I am sure many do, I don't mean this as an insult ) I'd definitively pay for the shipping. I'd say go for it. Congratulations, that sounds like good news to me! I don't think $20 USD is too much to pay for shipping and a brand new box. Hopefully it will arrive in perfect shape. youth Posted December 8, 2016 Well, you said it would be your ideal situation, and now you have it. Linda S. galatia9 Well I also assumed free in my ideal situation. Oh well I had kind of gotten over the box, but since they offered I just went with it. Maybe they should be packing these dolls with 1 inch of cushioning all around rather then an exact fit, but I guess that would make shipping more expensive. I do need to call though & see why the EMS number doesn't work with the online USPS claim form though. Otherwise the insurance it a bit useless.
