Noxxbunny Posted November 18, 2016 Sort of weird newbie question here. Are the headcaps of DD always a lighter color than the rest of the head? I feel like I'm sort of tripping out here. I've finally been able to take my DDH-06 out of the box it's been in because it now has a body. But...as I've been working on the faceup again, I noticed that the headcap isn't the same color as the rest of the head. It's lighter. Unfortunately, I can't compare it to the other two DD heads I have even though their headcaps are lighter as well. The DDH-06 is NS and is only 6 months old. It's been in a box most of the time since I got it. My other two heads are SWS and one is a year old already(and gets daily indirect sun) and the other is two years old. So I sort of expect those to be the way they are from yellowing. So is this normal? It's really making me wonder now that I've noticed it. Eustia Posted November 18, 2016 I've not noticed any colour differences on any headcaps on any of my girls... but ultimately, who cares? It'll be hidden under the wig anyway.
Noxxbunny Posted November 18, 2016 I've not noticed any colour differences on any headcaps on any of my girls... but ultimately, who cares? It'll be hidden under the wig anyway. I'm rather curious about it in others experience because I've thought that the color on this head might've been off somehow from the day I got it. If no one else's is like this, it makes me wonder if it came from a weird vinyl batch or something. Not that anything can be done about it 6 months later and I'm cool with that, but I would like to know so I can decide if I ever want to give NS another chance. If it's always like this, then it's not really what I need. The headcap color is though. The rest of the face...not so much. toughstermcg Posted November 18, 2016 Did you notice before or after you started working on her faceup? Because certain kinds of sealant (Testors dullcote especially, I've heard) can create a slight discoloration when they dry.
kinkachou Posted November 18, 2016 How much lighter is it? I'm in agreement with ryotakishu, some sealants can cause a little color change that's more noticeable on certain skin tones (ZM spray in my experience seems to make things look kind of powdery, and with any sealant if you layer on enough of it, it can definitely start "lightening" whatever's beneath it). maybe it seems lighter by comparison? Blushing the face could probably make the cap look lighter if it's totally bare. Black lives matter.
Noxxbunny Posted November 18, 2016 Noticed it after, but I noticed it now because I'm working on the faceup again, and I was cleaning the head. so there's no sealant or blush on the head at the moment. The head is actually the darker part. Maybe by a shade or two. It's one of those dumb things where it's totally noticeable in person, but my phone camera wants to wash the color out and it makes it look like everything is the same color. So yeah, I admit I haven't noticed until now because I usually go Step one: Remove head from box Step two: Remove headcap So I don't really know how long this has been a thing...It just happened to catch my eye last night and it made me wonder how that would happen, or if it's just normal. Mimiyo3 Posted November 19, 2016 Some of my dolls have faint differences in headcap color versus head color, some of them don't. It happens sometimes, different batches of vinyl aren't always a 100% match to each other but it's really such a subtle thing that it really isn't worth working yourself up over. And it's not just normal skin, a couple semiwhite girls of mine have it too. Hell one of my girls got a bust from a different batch than the rest of her so if you really look closely she has a slight difference there, but it's incredibly faint. You need good light, and you need to be looking for it to really notice. Present! Since starting the modding process all over again will be a big pain in the rear. I want to be sure it's possibly worth it and that it's not always like this. Which luckily it doesn't seem to be, at least. The headcap color on mine is the color I want. The rest of the head isn't, unfortunately.
