Putting up the Chistmas Tree

Being Miku's first Christmas, she's letting all the excitement in the air get to her. So she just had to 'help' when I said I was going to put up the Christmas tree. I got the spot for the tree cleared, went and got the tree box out and came back to this:

 

 

Me: Miku, what are you doing?

Miku: Daddy, you are so nice clearing this spot just for me. Is this where my stage will go?

Me: No dear. I know you are an Idol, but this will not be your stage. Not many people would be able to see you perform here if it was. This is the spot we are going to put that Christmas tree I told you about. It's here in this box.

Miku: Trees come in boxes? I thought they grew in the ground.

Me: Real trees do, but this is a fake tree.

 

 

Miku: Let me see. This doesn't look much like a tree.

Me: Well it comes in pieces, so we have to put it together.

 

 

Miku: This sure makes a nice springy bed.

Me: Alright dear, please get out so we can take it out of the box.

 

 

Miku: I've got this Daddy. See, Sakura and I are dong a good job at emptying the box.

Me: I see. [i step away for a bit while she works.]

 

 

Miku: Help! I can get back out of the box!

[i help Miku back out.]

Me: Now we need to sort all the branches so we know where on the tree they go. Please find the ones with white tips.

 

 

Miku: Okay, we got this. Oh look Sakura, neat head bands.

Me: [sighing.] Miku, those are part of the tree, so don't get used to having them.

[Miku pouts.]

Me: Now that we have everything sorted, lets put it together. First comes the center pole. Can you help me put it in the stand.

 

 

Miku: Like this?

Me: Yup. now find the branches with yellow tips and bring them here so I can put them in the bottom holes.

 

 

Miku: Don't worry Daddy, Sakura and I have this.

Me: Okay, but please do as I say.

Miku: Hai.

[We continue to assemble the tree.]

Me: Now next is the white ones, but they are too high up for you to reach.

 

 

Miku: Don't worry Daddy, we can climb up the tree.

Me rushing over to the tree to grab her before she falls: Careful Miku, this isn't made to hold little girls. Please just bring me the branches I ask for.

Miku: [sadly] Pity, it was fun climbing.

[We just about get it all done.]

Me: Miku, please bring me the top of the tree.

Miku: Hai.

[i hear a thump and turn around.]

 

 

Me: Miku, are you okay?

Miku: Yes, but this one is hard to move.

Me: Okay, I'll get it. There, how does it look?

Miku: I guess it looks treeish. But it is rather plain.

Me: We still need to put the lights and garland on. Look, here comes Mommy with them. Let me plug the lights in so we can check them and then see as we put them on.

 

 

Miku: They all came on.

Me: What, how did you get all tangled up in them already?

Miku: We were just trying to spread them out.

Me: I see. Here, you can sit on the couch until I get the lights on. [Finish putting the lights up.] Now we put the garland on. Miku, please hold this end while I do it.

 

 

Miku: This is all shiny, I like it.

Me: There, the tree is all done for now. Tomorrow the boys and Mommy can put all the ornaments on it and then I can put a train around it. We got our part done today.

 

 

Miku: Phew, that was hard work.

Miku 5min later: "now where are all the presents!" .. probably

Man, your tree looks complicated to set up! My family's always gotten the kind where the branches are on permanently and they just fold up. @_@ Least the needles on yours look pretty nice. /artificial tree needle snob

 

Also, just be glad Miku got *herself* all tangled up. Last year, my Miku used lights to tie *Homura* up!

My Miku may be an Idol, but she isn't much a of Diva, so there was no demand for presents (yet).

 

As for setting up the tree, I don't think it complicated, but then I have been helping set it up for most my life. The thing is older than I am (So 40+ years!), but it still stands, has most of it's needles (And doesn't shed them.), and fits back into it's box without any issues.

 

I need to take another photo of her with the finished and decorated tree to post, Perhaps Christmas Eve night after Santa visits to get all the presents under it too.

That outfit/wig combo looks really good on Miku, and it coordinates nicely with the shades of the tree, too!

The tree is also really nice looking, I'd definitely like to see the full setup with ornaments and train. The whole story takes me back to setting up the tree when I was a little kid--ahh, nostalgia...

My girl isn't ever going to look that good in that outfit.

I am 100% positive that I had that exact tree. hehehehe Its nice there was someone to help you, even if what she really did was make that work a little extra fun.

The tree is easily 50+ years old, from either K-mart or Sears. The original box is long gone, and it's missing some of the things you wrap on the 'trunk' to cover where the branches go in (What Miku was using as a head band.) and one of the branches doesn't even go with this tree as it was used to replace a missing one. But it is full of memories, so I see no reason to replace it just because we can get something that looks 'better'.

I like your tree. My great grandmother had one like that back in the 70s. I liked setting it up. My mom liked white trees where you just folded out the limbs from the trunk, but I liked the "puzzle" nature of the assembled tree.

 

The pic I like the best is where Miku has just discovered the "headbands". You know, I don't think I ever knew what those little things were for back in the day. Sometimes I'd wrap them around the trunk, but I didn't think that's what they were for. Miku's interpretation of them is as good as any I ever came up with.

 

The pic where she's tangled up in the lights is nice too. Miku looks great in her outfit.
