Smart Doll coming to Dokomi in Germany

I just got back from Dokomi! So overwhelming! I will post photos later when I have better access to the internet. But line-up was Julia, Starlight, Chitose and Kizuna, as well as one Harmony. Clothes sets seemed to be the regular items in different combinations, except that one Starlight in the Dokomi special.

 

I spoke with both Danny's wife (who embarrassingly mistook my Chitose Cocoa for a Harmony!) and Alphond. Danny wasn't there when I visited.

Met Danny! He was very nice compared to my awkwardness. The dolls all sold out within minutes but he took me into the booth and let me order a girl with one of his employees for the same price. So full apparel set + free shipping for €470! Surprised there were no Eiji or Crimson Kai though, only one panzer on display too. Danny said he greatly underestimated the German crowd!

Did Danny sell any Smart Doll accessories at his stand? Or was it only full-set dolls?

That's good news for us, Europeans. For those who went to Dokomi, is it worth it? I've considering going next year. I enjoy anime cons for the simple reason that I like checking out (and buying) anime merchandise in person. But since going to Dusseldorf from Belgium would be quite a trip, I want to know it's worth the effort and money.

I went from Brussels to Dusseldorf by train last year, it wasn't that bad and there's a tram that runs straight to the hall. Dokomi was a lot bigger this year a lot of people felt it was more like Japan Expo.

 

There was no apparel, Danny didn't expect there to be such a huge response. I hope he brings extras next year!

Harmony really doesn't look as purple in the video as she does online, or in person actually.

He was olny selling dolls, but he told me that he would cooperate with a german site, so that we germans could buy our dolly stuff easier!! The site is called Figuya!

It was so worth it! I had tons of fun. It's a huge con! I hope that when he comes back next year he will bring accessories. This time there were only the dolls and pre-ordered stuff, like my clothes and hands order.

Here are some of my photos from Dokomi. I think I will post the ones of just my doll's adventure in her own thread.

 

All the dolls sold out, according to Danny. I met one of the buyers, who got the Chitose in the picture here.

I was sooooo temped to get Starlight with the silver wig! But I had decided to wait for the new Eiji.

 

We also found some friends on display! But I couldn't locate the owner...

 

And um, well... At Dokomi I only found Alphond and Danny's wife at the stand, even though I went back on Sunday as well. So I thought I would leave Germany without having met the man himself. But guess who I spotted at the airport, just 20 minutes before boarding my plane back home!

It was just slightly surreal to bump into him in a place like that, with thousands of passengers at a huge airport. We chatted a bit and he insisted we take a photograph, both with my phone, his phone AND his camera. He posted this all over his social media - welp!

Yes! He told me he was amazed by how many people came to see and buy the dolls :3

Considering they were €470 and he sold all of them, I'd say it was a resounding success!

I mean, obviously people are there at the event to spend money, but it's still a hefty sum.

He generally posts about attendance at cons a few weeks/couple months before. He seemed to be enjoying both events in Europe, so he might be coming back if his schedule permits.

I'm glad that he enjoyed the events in Europe. Now if he would only get a European retailer, I'd be VERY happy

Danny posted a video of the dolls that will be at Dokomi on Instagram. It's the "tour of the garage" video. There wouldn't be any Eijis there. Just two Crimsons. The rest are Anni Mirai, Starlight, Infinity, Chitose, Harmony, Cherry and two tanned girls that I can't quite make out.

In the video he said "some of the crew", so it's not all the dolls he'll have with him... no?
