Fairy Tail: Erza Scarlet

Well, I've put it off long enough, time is limited but Erza can't really wait anymore so here goes my first project put away for two long years. The basics are as follows, Erza's head is a DDH7, it just seemed like the best fit at the time, that's when DDH8-9 were not out yet. The body is a DD3-L, for some reason as much as the anime emphasizes her chest, I just don't think it goes quite across into the Dynamite type. Of course it's entirely possible that I'm wrong...

 

Slowly but surely, hopefully she'll start looking like Erza. I'm a bit nervous of course, it's my first project after all but if all goes well and I have image posting privileges here as some point, I'd love to let the pictures speak a thousand words.

 

If I were ever for any reason redo Erza's head, with the heads we have through volks, which model do you think would work best now? I'm not planning a second head for now, but I'm curious for future reference. Thanks in advance!

I'd say 06 for a gentler look or 07-09 is the right way to go. If you already have an 07, stick with it. Also L is fine for her, she's definitely not mutant enough to warrant a Dy bust. Though Dy hips are always fine on adult characters. She's supposed to be 19, so standard DD3 L is a good choice. I'd suggest a unibody for many of her outfits, but if you want more dynamic poses (if you arm her, for instance) then a standard body offers a bit more in the way of body twists and turns.

Unibody sounds awesome if even as a secondary, to switch depending on outfit. I did not consider that, thanks for the advice!

 

For now the first set is being 3d printed, her Heart Kreuz type 2 armor, although type 1 is a bit better looking, it's very full and bulky, type 2 just seemed like much less problematic. I also printed her standard magic sword. She is definitely armed now it will be a little tricky with clothes, I think I might have to look into a lot of custom work there too. The maid outfit would be nice too. One at a time I guess.

Are you dead set on a DD head for her? I'm pretty sure that SQ Lab's Hime head was based on her:

 

They're resin but are meant to work on DD and Obitsu bodies. DDP or Obitsu 48/50 would be perfect bodywise, I think. But among standard DD heads.. a modded DDH-01 could totally work.

I'm not completely set on a DDH, but in order to get it shipped for make up and back plus the cost of the head, it might be a little beyond my means... I'm still missing the shoulder and arm armor for Erza, the print cost will set me back a bit so it's either wait a month and try the Hime head like you suggest or go for the DDH1.

 

While we are on the subject, would SQ12 Haruka also work? Or alternatively, DDH10?

Personally I don't mind waiting if it meant getting a doll that looks as close to what I want as possible.. I tried settling for other sculpts before and it never worked out until I got the right head. It's totally up to you though! If you go with an 01, you'd still have to sand the mouth and reshape the eyes to get it to look as close to Kuroneko as possible so there's that.

 

I think SQ Lab Haruka might work, though Kuroneko's eyes are more square-ish. It does look nice if you want her to have extra slanted eyes though. Having seen DDH-10 in person I don't think it would work.. The eyes are also pretty slanted and the cheeks are really puffy, which makes the head look pretty "young." I know Kuroneko is short, but she's not a little kid. IDK if she qualifies as a loli lol xD This is just my opinion though!

No no, what you say makes perfect sense. I guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer. Which is honestly fine too, since I'm slowly dealing with Erza's armor piece by piece. It will definitely tie me over until I can get SQ Lab's Hime.

 

Haha, you're right, it's true she's definitely not a little kid, I also think she's a gray area as far are lolis are concerned. She's a weirdo in a very endearing way, being in the gray makes her a very special character in my book. Always liked her but the scene with Saori's meddling interpretations between Kuro and Kyosuke sealed the deal for me.

OMG! I totally forgot the very question I wanted to ask... sorry~!

What's the recommended body for Kuro? According to any image I've seen of her I'd say she land perfectly between an MMD and DDS... how does one compensate for her short stature?

Sorry, I totally missed the comment about the body, got it, so Obitsu or DDS it will be.

In the meanwhile Erza's shoulder pads are done. A little on the smallish side, but since I can't

reprint for now I guess they'll have to do for now.

 

One last question, for Kuro's wig, would be be more recommended to go with black or dark violet/purple?

Well, few pieces left to get but for the most part I am actually somewhat happy with the results.

Of course there is always room to improve but I think it comes with time and opportunity to make the changes necessary and the luck of finding something that looks as close as possible to the original.

(I'm looking at you black skirt... )

 

Anyway, that's it for the next month as least.
