Leaving the Dollfie Dream Hobby/Life

Recommended Posts

Pickle

Hello there everyone! Just wanted to drop in and give you all some news since it has been awhile since I've really been active on here and whatnot.

The truth is, I'm leaving the Dollfie Dream Hobby/Life. It's been a long ride of ups and downs. Spending a lot then getting laid off at jobs, etc etc. I just felt this is the time to move on with my life. I'm not that financially stable enough to keep up with getting bodies, clothes, etc. Also, my want to do so is very slim to nill. So, there really is no point in me owning one that I won't be able to do anything with.

I'm also trying to start a new point in my life where I don't really collect anything but keep very few things that I will use or won't take up much room or much money out of my pocket. ^^ On top of that, I'm trying to go to a trucking school to either become a local truck driver or a garbage driver to make a more steady income. I know it'll be hard but to finally be on my own away from family and parents, it'll be worth it, even if it is a bit scary for awhile.

But anyway, just wanted to let you guys know that I won't be in the hobby anymore but that I still might come on from time to time to see your photos and love for your own because I still love and enjoy looking at them! :3

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this and hope you all have a nice rest of your day! Same goes for your DD girls and boys! ^^

Good luck in the future, Pickle! It sounds like you know what you want.

If I was thinking about leaving the hobby, it would be really difficult for me to sell my DDs, but I am more attached to my resin dolls than the DDs. I still love the DDs, but I wouldn't have that totally wrecked feeling that I would have if I sold some of my dearest resins. I had the resins WAY before I had the DDs.

It IS a hobby that takes up a lot of space. It doesn't have to cost a ton of money, but it is tempting to spend a lot. The nice thing is, if you decided to come back, the DDs will probably always be here and you could start again. They will wait.

Thank you for the kind words.

I totally understand the sentiment between dolls and their owners. The spark for me really has died for them though since I can't afford to pamper them like I wanted to and have no desire to waste money on them when I won't even go buy clothes for myself. ^^" So, in the end, me leaving and them going to another home would be the best thing to do. For my sake and theirs.

And yeah, they should still be there if I ever decide to come back! But, for me, the only way I think I'd be inclined to come back is if I somehow got rich, haha~ x3 But, like I said, I should still be around to enjoy looking at DD photos and whatnot. Just because I end the hobby, doesn't mean I can't enjoy looking at 'em! ^^

Hahaha, I don't buy clothes for myself, either! It's more fun to buy clothes and shoes for them!

Lots of people come back to the hobby. Maybe someday when you're settled in your job and location, you'll come back!

I'm sorry to hear that you have to leave the hobby but at least you sound like you know what you want and how to get it. THAT is sometimes really hard to figure out.

I wish you luck with your future prospects and hope you still do come by here occasionally to see what we're up to and have a bit of fun while you're at it.

Yeah, it really is hard to figure out. I know I want certain things in my life but there's nothing in main colleges I seem to be interested in for a job. I know that truckers and garbage drivers are always needed and have a more steady income than most jobs that I might be interested in, so I thought that would be a more safe bet.

Thank you so much for the luck and I should definitely be lurking around to look at the gatherings and photos! Always is fun to see what others do with their girls/boys.

If you're going for the route of "make income quickly by trucking", you may want to check out http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/. That site is all about ways to save and invest for early retirement, and long distance trucking especially would be a unique opportunity to make that happen. (Spending so much time in your truck = low cost of living areas much more practical for your home base = way lowered housing costs, for one.) I'm not sure you'd want to go quite that extreme, but it's still a good read for budgeting, debt reduction, and ideas on what to do with savings when you get it. Plus, the "Anti-Mustachian Wall of Shame" is usually good for a laugh.

Best of luck to you in the future!

I'm not looking into making money "quickly" per say. Just a steady income. I also don't want to be cross-country all the time or live in my truck as I have a loving boyfriend of almost 6 years now who I wished to eventually be married to, once we are both financially stable. I'm mainly looking for local trucking or the garbage driver since I can be home more often. Also, I hope to have some pet cats in my home as well, so I need time for them too.

But, thank you so much for the help and for the luck, I really appreciate it! ^^

Nice! I didn't expect to see MMM mentioned here, on a doll forum of all places, seeing as how high-cost hobbies can be difficult to reconcile with saving and early retirement. I'm really glad though. I'd like to second MMM as something well worth reading, Pickle, in order to gain insight into ways to manage your money and your lifestyle, whether or not you want to early retire. Personal finance isn't covered enough or at all in formal US education, sadly.

It is possible to manage money well AND enjoy dollfies if you decide you want to come back to the DD hobby later on.

I totally understand that you can enjoy dollfies and manage your money~ 😄 I just am not interested in the prospect of buying clothes, etc that they would need anymore. It isn't fun for me now and does waste my money, in my honest opinion, when I barely do anything with them anyway or even have a desire to. Other people make definite good use out of them and make them worth the money they spent but, I just can't do it anymore. But I can always enjoy looking at others' photos for free! ^^ d

You are definitely right that the US education barely even touches on finances unless you have gone into a finance class (which most students probably won't want to choose if they don't have to). Wish it was different because they royally screw us over once we go into the real world. XD But yeah, thank you for seconding it but I may or may not look at it. But again, thank you for the help!

I always get sad when I hear of someone leaving the hobby. It feels like I've lost a friend! I totally understand your reasons, though. I've been going through a lot too these last few years in my personal life and in the doll collecting area. I feel there is so much out there to own and love but not enough money! I want to wish you all the best Pickle and I hope someday maybe you will return to the hobby! I loved seeing photos of your dolls.

I'm sorry that it makes you sad! I'll still be around though to check out photographs and the like, or at least I should! ^^ I'm glad you understand my reasons though, I really appreciate that. I highly doubt I will come back and own any dolls though in the future, sadly. But, thank you for wishing me all the best and enjoying the pictures I posted before! It really means a lot, truly!
