how to warm the hands, can't get them off

1. I've pulled out entire arm with the force to take out a hand, it's horrible. Not sure anymore if they can even be removed. I bought 3 other pair of hands and they're damn expensive.

Her hands have been painted with French manicure. I don't want to damage it. I have no idea now how to heat the hands because I wanted to put them in hot water but I need a way to only heat the upper hand and avoid warming the rest.

2. the head is a bit loose, is it normal that heads can't pose very well or do I need to buy some replacement. She's brand new though.

3. how are you guys custom faceups holding out when you're making wet photos for instance?

Best solution is heat from hair dryer...but since I haven't one of those, I just hold the hand over the steam that's coming from my hot tea. Yes, really

Don't submerge in the water itself if you're worried about chipping that lovely manicure. You can carefully wrap the fingertips in a small towel to keep it dry too (plus a lil something to keep your own fingers from scalding in that steam)

I've got a few pairs of custom painted hands for my Snow Miku, and I bought extra wrist pieces to avoid popping the hands off of them all the time. Even though it just the nails that are painted, it's less wear and tear on the hands this way.

I've found that both Cool Cat and Volks wrist joints may need some sanding to fit just right.

I boiled water and put it in a large measuring cup, then let it cool slightly. Then I put the doll's arm in a plastic bag and dipped it into the hot water. It softened up the hand enough to remove it, and didn't get the doll wet. I didn't even have the detach the arm from the doll.

I have not done this with a manicured hand, though.

I like the idea of swapping complete wrist parts instead of hands.

That's what I do with my Obitsu50's. Every set of option hands has their own wrist joint so the hands never have to come off a wrist joint. And the wrist joints pull right out of the arm, no heating needed.

Buying extra wrists so I don't have to remove hands to swap is my plan, until I see you can't get wrists for MDD from Volks.

Yeah, MDD wrists aren't available yet, but it has to be just a matter of time. And then another year after release for Volks to hit on a version that doesn't break...

Can you show me some examples of what to pull out and up to where it goes?

I've pulled out too much before, it may have been what you meant but I'm not sure.

Can I just grab the ball and pull on that?

I keep hearing that so in the future I'll buy some extra wrists. I hope I can find a EU shop that doesn't charge tons for shipping them. From Japan is just too much...

The shop where I bought my DD3 immediatly stopped selling DD because Volks wanted the shop to do Volks stuff only and they didn't want to do that :\

This is probably one of the more out there suggestions you're going to get for taking hands off, but here it is, haha. It's also highly reliant on the circulation levels in your hands, so may not work.

My hands are like tiny space heaters at pretty much all times, so holding their hands in my hand is usually enough to get it off, and then a little wiggling back and forth. I generally have clean hands anyways so this amount of handling for my girls doesn't bother me, but you can also just as easily wash your hands or put a plastic bag between your hand and your girls. It takes a little longer than it would if you used a direct heat source like a blow dryer or steam, but you can get it more precise and avoid the manicure.

If you want to go the replacement armature route, when you go to pull it out to replace it, I find it helps to grip at any point on the forearm, and then grip the ball joint like you said in another post, and then twist like you would as if you were just going to turn the arm for posing. You should only get the wrist joint that way. This topic has photos of the DDII frame, which should give you an idea of where you can grip it, which is like I said, pretty much anywhere on the forearm, haha. My understanding is that the forearm armature does not differ much between all iterations of the armature, so really this is a good guide for any of the bodies.
