Volks discontinuing standard models (?)

Oh my, I wonder why they are discontinuing them. Could it be lack of popularity? Or that they want to bring something new and fresh?

 

They do bring the standard models every year to cons and they don't seem to fly out of shelves like other dolls do.(example Rin is sold out in the current convention they are in). It could also be that there is too many standards in the wild and they want to make new standard models to get people to buy them more often.

 

And from the looks of it they are keeping Mirai and Candy(?) I know for sure those are the ones sold often.

 

Although it is kinda sad to see Miko go, she was one of my most favorite standards.

Is there any significance that the image only shows Rena, Aoi, Yukino, Mayu, and Miko while Candy and Mirai are notably absent?

 

Could it be that only the older standard models are being retired, and possible new ones being introduced? Or possible revamps like Candy and Mirai are?

Not to be rude, but could anyone provide a rough translation for what the images actually say? This doesn't feel like much of a thread if only a handful of people can read the source I don't wanna jump to conclusions until I know what Volks is saying.

I know refreshing standard models is something Volks does to their SD line pretty regularly. I think what they do is that they keep the same heads but change the faceups? I don't really keep tabs on the SD side of things, so I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure that's what they do.

 

So, therefore, I think it's likely that it'll be new faceups on the refreshed standards, a bit like Aoi and Yukino's V1 and V2. I think it would be more interesting, but less probable, for there to be new head/body combinations for the refreshed standards (IE, 04 on the DDDY and 06 on the DDS etc.)

 

I'll wait for translations for confirmation, of course, but I think they're just "refreshing" the standards, not getting rid of standards entirely.

Hey, that would actually be pretty cool. I mean, thats what these standard DDs are(with the exception of Candy and Mirai since they own a unique head mold), they are just common available heads with a factory faceup. Now that you bring it up. They are probably going to do what you said.

Change the faceups(or possibly heads, who knows) and probably give them new names/wigs.

Yeah, I wouldn't jump to conclusions either. A refresh is much more likely than outright discontinuation. The standards don't sell fast, but they do sell fairly consistently. An update to their look makes more business sense than discontinuing them. That being said, someone who speaks Japanese should weigh in on this to find out exactly what's going on here.

It says that from May they're no longer producing the standard models (except for Candy and Mirai) and that if you want one, now is your chance. Production will cease in May and then whether or not you can get one after that depends on what stores still have stock.

 

I have mixed feelings: to be honest I never really liked the standard models anyway as I found them kinda bland, but they were a decent option for people who didnt want to spend too much and didnt want to have to paint their own face.

 

However the fact that its ceasing in May is what interests me because May is when another Tokyo Dolpa is, so I wonder if anything new would be announced there? I'd like to see them make new models or faceups because some of these girls just look really outdated to me in terms of current anime aesthetics.

 

I hope to see new standards, anyway. (bonus points if there is at least one boy and DDP)

If they ever add more standards, I do hope they start releasing models like DDP or DDS(boy) as standard, hey I can dream right?

Wow. Personally they seem bland and outdated to me as well, so hopefully this just means they're making new standard models. I second the DDSboy and DDP stuff! Maybe if they have a dark skinned standard model too. I somehow doubt that though knowing how shy volks is about trying new things.

Its sad to see these current standards go, but id love to see what comes from it!!!

Now I am so torn. I want a MDD, but not really a fan of Rena's head/faceup (Something about that open white smile is kinda off putting.). But I have no interest in getting a blank head and getting a faceup done. And Volks releases painfully few MDD character models that their prices are too much in the after market. If they are refreshing the standard models, then I may wait. But if they are getting rid of them, then I guess I have to bite the bullet and get Rena.

 

Of course if they are refreshing the standard models, they won't say anything until the end of the year because if they say something now, or even in May, then the old stock will just keep sitting on the shelves as people wait for the refreshed model to come out.

I doubt they're gonna completely retire standard models because they were a slightly cheaper entry than a character doll, so more than likely making room for new ones, but we just gotta wait and see.

I hope Volks comes out with some new face sculpts for the standard models to replace the current ones. I feel their current sculpts look quite dated compared to say the smart doll face sculpts. I watch quite a bit of anime, and I feel that the standard DD face sculpts just don't quite capture the current anime character style.

 

Also, sales will always taper off if you keep a model in production for too long. Most people who wanted a Yukino or Aoi probably already has one.

Yeah, I wouldn't panic since it's likely they're just going to refresh their standard model offerings like they've done with SD in the past. Maybe some of the designs they've tried out as D'coord models will become new standards, or they could finally add some of the Akiba girls as standard options. Standard Mariko would really please the fans! Though it's purely speculation on my part ^_^;

Oh! I'm curious about if they are updating/discontinuing them! I have a Rena and once I put new eyes on her she was super cute! I'd love to see a new standard mdd and also maybe a standard ddp? That would be awesome!

Same here. I hope the standard heads are still available as option parts, though. It'd be nice if they came out with new standard models.

I hope they don't discontinue the standard sculpts just as they are as well. A lot of them are dated but with proper faceup working and some slight mods in some cases, they can still look quite wonderful. Plus I'm definitely using an 03 and an 06 at some point. Probably some of the others too.

As much as I've always liked the old standards, they do feel a bit dated compared to a lot of the newer releases. A faceup can go a long way on a sculpt, but Volks has improved so much in their limited releases that the standards feel kind of bland to me. I would love to see some tan girls in the next batch of standards, and more variance in the bodies to include the DDSB and DDP.

 

With how often they rerelease Miku, it'd almost be worth it to make her standard, too...

Whelp, I fell into their trap to get them moved out. I ordered Rena yesterday. Now I'll finally had a girl to put those MDD outfits I keep buying on.

Dunno if it's related at all but the new D'Coords for Kyoto Dolpa this weekend have new and updated makeup, different to previous D'Coords.

It makes me wonder if the new standard models - if there will be any - could have the same or similar makeup to this. The 06's new makeup is really cute!

Just speculation of course, we still don't even know if there will be new standards after all.

Sigh, of course I like the 01 face up better than Rena. But I'm not so sure on the other two, mainly the lips. It appears like they have the same uneven lip painting the SDs have that I have never liked.
