Volks discontinuing standard models (?)

I need an outside opinion on this: does Towa's face viewed at an angle look kind of 'flat'? à la Smart Dolls? I'm bad at seeing this kind of thing from photos so I'm not sure if it's phone-camera distortion or me overthinking it or a genuine feature of the sculpt.

In my opinion she looks round in the face and not flat at all. But I still wanna see her in person.

Release is still TBA, I thought they were gonna be at Dolpa next weekend but then they announced a delay, so probably not August.

Thank you both This reassures me a great deal. I really, really fell in love with her when I saw her so I'm glad she seems to be a sculpt that will, in fact, fit in well with my Lucy.

I like what they are doing with their newer dolls so much, that I'm not really upset about the discontinuation. Lets see what else they will drop on us!

Ah, that's the day before my birthday! I guess Liliru is going to be my birthday present to myself!

 

I'm happy to finally have a release date for the new standards, I was getting so impatient waiting. I thought I was going to have to wait until next year or something!

What bust does Karin have? It's not M is it? Why are they always M?

Yeah, DDS M bust.

 

Is that a bad choice? Liliru has the lil' bust, Karin has the medium bust, and Towa has the dy chest.. Seems like there's a variety pack in terms of height, bodyline, and bust style on purpose. (and, interestingly, no straight-up DD3).

It just seems like they use M bust on most everything as far as DDS and DDIII goes. Of the 5 girls I have, 3 are M bust. It just means I'll have to order a bust when I get Karin.

Fair enough. I guess they do it because M is going to look the best in the largest selection of Volks clothes for DDS/DD3 size, where she'll fit in (unlike an L) without swimming in them (like an S). So, clothes compatibility for a standard girl is my bet for why they chose that for Karin.

 

At least the DD bust pieces are reasonably easy to swap out whenever you want a girl to be different from how she comes default!

 

Would you want Karin to be larger or smaller, and what aspects about her helped you make your call?

I'd give her a S bust. Yaya has quite the complex, so I figured if I got her a sister that was shorter like her, but with a smaller bust, then Yaya would be a bit more stable/mellow. Think the Rikka-Sanae relationship/dynamic of Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. But we all know the truth, it'll just mean I'll have 2 getting into trouble together as their antics increase. As soon as I saw Karin I knew I have found the one. Her bright yellow hime cut would be the perfect yin/yang match to Yaya's black. I just haven't settled on a name yet.

Do they ever have special sales on old standards? I don't think so! I think they just keep them on the site until they are gone.

 

When the old SD and SD13 standards were discontinued, I seem to remember they were still on the site until they were gone. But I'm not positive.

Who here is planning to buy one of these cuties as soon as they're online? I'm pretty sure its the end of this month (28th). As much as I love Liliru I still wanna wait for owner pics, especially with different wigs and eyes.

Would also really like to see Towa's head blank and compared with a DDH07.

I think Towa is really cute, but I'd like to see her without that big piece of hair in the middle of her forehead. When I sort of 'mentally photoshop' that out of the way, it makes the gap between her eyes look really wide...

Y'all are killing me with Towa. I'm for sure grabbing her, haha, I'm gonna be there on minute one.

Unfortunately Volks doesn't really offer their heads separately. The only exception was getting blank versions of the original standards(except Candy and Mirai) because their heads were DDH-01,02,03,04, and 06. But seeing that the new standards are all original sculpts it's unlikely they will be released as blanks.

 

Best you can do is look in the secondhand market(places like Mandarake or YJA) to see if anyone was willing to part with their heads. Or purchase the full doll and sell the parts you don't need.

Karin is super cute. I love that her smile isn’t just outright, it’s more of a little sly smirk. I’m honestly surprised she’s less popular than Towa though!

 

I’ll try and get a nice selection of pictures up for Towa too. I may likely wind up parting with her eyes and wig, but I absolutely want to get and play with them first! I’m really excited to see everyone’s pictures of these girls.

I think all the new standards are super cute, but I'm curious to see how they'd look customized with different wigs and face-ups.

 

I'm sorta getting a Kirino Kousaka vibe from Karin but it's probably just because of her hair color (which I love). I am not super crazy of Karin's default and face-up, but those things are pretty easy to change. From the looks of it her sculpt seems has massive potential.

That's disappointing. I wish they would allow you to pick the body when you order.
