Volks discontinuing standard models (?)

Just to clarify -- Volks is discontinuing some of the standard characters, but the base bodies are still being sold by themselves.

Whelp, I fell into their trap to get them moved out. I ordered Rena yesterday. Now I'll finally had a girl to put those MDD outfits I keep buying on.

 

Hahaha I'm not the only one! I totally bought Rena on Monday but I kinda want to go a different route.. I also ordered a blank 10 head and a face up artist in my city will do a custom on it for me! I only wanted the rena head so my doll wasn't headless for a while... cuz my artist is a little back logged But eventually I wanted to get Rena's face customized eventually... in the future. Now I'm not so sure.

I want to customize Rena's head too (Well, she Yumi now.). I don't care for her teethy smile, so I just want her lips and mouth redone to be more colored like my other girls. The rest of her faceup is fine. But putting her in a richer brown wig and giving her green eyes went a long way in making her much more kawaii in my eyes.

I agree with the smile... at one point I thought it might b best to shave it a little lol... who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when I actually get her!... I'm not that hopeful tho! Hahaha!

I'm kinda indifferent, I never really cared for the standard models anyway. Do you guys think they'll be offering Moe/Natsuki sculpt if they're gonna release new standard models?

You really cannot predict anything about what Volks will or won't release... I thought that Moe/Natsuki will be a next standard already some years ago and so far it didn't happen.

This is exciting news imo! Change is always a good thing to keep things fresh and I highly doubt these characters will completely disappear. New faceups and head sculpts are badly needed right now in the standard lineup and I agree with others that I hope Volks adds the new body types as well.

A thought had come to me with how Volks has been releasing boy DDs as late. Perhaps they are stopping them so as to not getting bugged about adding a boy or boys to the standard model lineup. Or perhaps they want to add a boy, but would reduce the number of girls.

I just think they are going to come out with a whole new wave of them.. and probably different head molds too. I also have a feeling that they might just add a DDB body in the future. They're probably still trying to judge how popular it would be.

Maybe the standard models don't sell as well as it was earlier, because people tend to buy parts and limited DDs.

When there is much higher probability to sell 3 bodies and 4 blank heads than one Yukino, then in this case every standard model is kind of frozen asset.

Maybe D'coord will be available online - I can see Volks continuing to offer "standard models" in a sense, where You buy parts (body + head + maybe some clothes) and faceup. Kind of FCS for DDs.

To be honest I only think it's simply because of how "outdated" the other girls are. Their faceups aren't really up to date to their current faceups. If anything I am thinking Volks will be releasing a new line of standard or an updated version of the standards.(Similar to how Mirai/Candy got an upgrade compared to their V1)

Considering that they get the dolls by boat, it's possible Volks Japan shipped her before they cut production.

 

That said, I'm sitting here like. . . Volks, why haven't you said what the renewal/replacement models are yet? It's been months. And knowing how they roll with the standard model SDs, I'm pretty damn certain there will be renewal/replacement models.

 

I'm kind of hoping they'll swap around the head/body combinations, like 03 on DDS and 04 on DDDy or something. With DD heads basically interchangeable, it'd be a relatively easy way to bring a fresh take to the standard line. (If they include boys, maybe an 02 DDSB and an 07 DDIIIB?)

Perhaps instead of the whole standard model, I'd almost prefer they'd do pre-painted heads.

To be honest I wish there was a FCS for DDs. But instead of picking what kind of faceup you want they can have prepainted heads. I wouldn't mind spending a little extra just to have a specific head/bust/hand type for a custom girl.

Full choice would be perfect, but considering you can't even get SD full choice outside Japan that could be wishing on a monkey's paw. Then again that's only because they have to cast and paint the resin dolls, and if the DD parts were already prepainted...

I don't know how feasible a system would be but it would be great to have an equivalent, especially with the three new bodies (DDP, DDB and DDSB...) not that Volks have SDC or YOSD in the full choice system though

Next volks news is in about 2 weeks so I hope we hear something about any potential replacement standards.

Well this just throws a monkey wrench into all my doll plans. I need to buy all of them, especially the MDD, so cute!

Karin and Towa are just WOW, I hope to be able to buy just Towa's head off of someone.(I'm sadly not fond of DDdy bodies)

I think Karin's an 09, and Liliru is probably a 10, but what head is Towa? A new head entirely??

 

Regardless, this is definitely a welcome change to the standard lineup. I do hope a standard DDIII and eventually standard DDP and DD boy types will be a thing, but this is a good start.

All of them are new, under each new doll is description with "Head: (model name) Original Head"

Indeed all new sculpts. Ironically none of them are DD, only DDS, DDDy and MDD.

I was also hoping for a boy and DDP but given that there's only 3 it's possible that they will add more in future. I really love them, though! I greatly disliked some of the old standards (won't say which ones on particular to avoid offending) and I guess if a gun was put to my head I'd have gotten Miko, but I honestly love all three of these girls!
