If Asuna is anything like Kirika (removable ears) then they def had to tweak her head a little bit!

To give her slightly more sticking out ears for new attachments, which may have lead to slight face mold changes here and there

 

The more I see of this girl, the more I want her! *pencils in lottery reminders* do hope someone at Volks releases a few outfits for Asuna to change into, like the cute casual clother she wears indoors, or maybe even her real-world school uniform!

Oh, they're opening the lottery APRIL 22nd!? For some reason I had it in my head that the lottery opened in May, but both Kirito's and Asuna's pages say April. Well, least that means that we should get the results in sooner than I thought.

At first I was really excited to get a Kirito. After looking at the pictures, something just doesn't seem right with the face. The proportions just look wrong, somehow. I think the distance between the nose and mouth is throwing me off.

Also the ear clips are separate to the elf ears so you can remove them.

Yesssss I would buy him if he looked like that. Why couldn't he look like that?

(the main difference is that I believe the 'old way' had the lottery drawn at Dolpa so you could get the doll there if you won, but now the lottery is drawn for everyone at the same time whether you entered at Dolpa or the regular way.)

The lottery at Dolls Party used to work completely differently, back when you could take dolls home directly from the event. To oversimplify the process, it boiled down to being a lottery for a spot in line, not for individual dolls. If you got a good enough number in line then you could buy one each of ALL of the dolls. But conversely, if you got a bad number then you didn't have a chance at any of them because they'd all be sold out by the time you got to the head of the line. Volks changed Dolpa to mirror the per-doll lottery held online starting for December 2015's Tokyo Dolpa if I recall.

 

It was pretty difficult to get a good number. Out of all the Dolpas I went to while living in Japan I only got to bring home dolls direct from the event one time.

You did a great job with the edit. Honestly, if he had looked like the edit you did I probably would've actually wanted him. His face looks more "masculine" than the one they came out with and honestly looks more like the character.

You know, the proportions of that edit actually resemble the Sinon DD they did before--which as I recall people didn't think looked much like Sinon. Does this mean we'll have people just swapping Kirito and Sinon's heads?

Now that I look at Sinon, her proportions are quite similar! There are other things about her sculpt that I'm not a fan of, it's hard to describe exactly. I guess I'm pretty picky about anime sculpts. I'd love to use a sculpt like Chihaya for a DD boy, though.

I think I'll have to at least try for Asuna... Safe from Kirito though.

So I took a better look at Asuna and realized that this sculpt works pretty well for Aelia, another OC of mine.

Parabox makes a pretty nice set of elf ears. They don't perfectly fit any DD, but they're cheap enough that you can trim them to fit whomever and the color match is pretty close.

For me, I feel like Kirito's cheeks are bit too chubby and the body is too slim for my taste, plus I don't want to shell out extra for those swords which wouldn't get much use from me. Asuna looks really lovely though! I'm quite tempted to go for her, even though I hated her role in this arc of the anime >.<

They describe it as a totally new head mold, so I'd say they probably won't fit the the V1 Asuna.

 

Sadly I like the original better. Something about the jaw line on the new version is unappealing to me. Not that she isn't beautiful, but in the end I'm going to go back to looking for V1 full set.
