Desk display case for DD?

Recommended Posts

MugenTenshinFRD

Hello everyone,

A new topic from me since over a year ago.

How do you display your Dollfie Dream(s)??

I know that there have been topics about this before, but I'm looking for a small glass or acrylic display for my Hatsune Miku that would fit nicely on my desk.

I know many people here use doll stands to place them, but I'm kind of worried about dust. Should I?

Other people place their Dollfies in Ikea Detolfs by removing a shelf, but I don't think I currently have space in my room for a new Detolf.

Lately I went to the hardware store to look for something fitting, but it's pretty hard to find.

Suddenly I got an idea though. I saw a perfect size 60x30x30cm full glass fish tank for only about $30, that I could place upright and pretty much looks like a glass display case. However, after measuring, the inside is 59cm and Hatsune Miku is about that size too, so it will be really tight.

Actually I already own a glass wall display case, which has perfect 65cm space for a Dollfie Dream, however I would have to give up 3 figure shelfs just to fit it and the display case is discontinued, so I can't get another one.

Finally, I've looked around the internet for 60cm/24 inch or bigger glass/acrylic display cases and I can barely find anything. Ebay display cases are too small or really expensive. Then if I find anything online it's usually like $200 or something, which is not really worth it in my opinion.

Do you have any ideas for perfectly fitting Dollfie Dream cases?

What do you use to display your Dollfie Dream? I prefer to have it stored inside against dust, but also the display should look nice.

Do I really have to make something myself or actually buy a Detolf to solve my problem?

Looking forward to your ideas. Shown examples would be appreciated too.

Danny Choo is working on a display-case for Smart Doll. Might be something to hold out for..?

Wow, I didn't know about that! I will wait and look out for that, exactly what I'm looking for.

I live in the dust capital of the USA, but I don't worry about it. I play with my girls enough that they don't have time to collect dust. So I say the cheapest way to prevent dust on your girls is to spend time with her.

I see, that's great. Of course it's always the best to play with your girls, best way to keep dust away. I wish I would have more time for my girls too, I should consider that more often.

Yup, I'm the same way. All my girls are displayed on top of furniture in my bedroom and even tho I usually only mess with one at a time every day, very little dust gets on them. I'll occasionally see some dust or particles on a few of them but those are always directly below the AC vent so I know that stuff is coming out of there.

Here's how my girls are set up:

As stated earlier, I really don't get much dust or dirt on the girls and I work outside for my job. I think you'd be fine keeping your Miku on a stand on your desk.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Like others I have my dolls out in the open. Cases to actually display my cast of characters would run well over $1000. So I have 35+ assorted vinyls standing on a Metro wire shelf unit, 1 DD in a doll stand on a floor standing speaker and 2 Smart Dolls sitting on the deck watching TV.

Play with them regularly or dust occasionally with a Swiffer.

But if you don't like dusting you can try this:

(take the shelves out)

Or custom acrylic cases:

I have mine in the open too with maybe 3 in a detolf shelf - Saber Lily, Mariko and Len. The rest are either in their room diorama - Millie, Yuuto, Beato, Mari, Kaylus, Tomoe, Lucy and Reese - or standing with the rest of my figures - Saber Extra in open shelving or in their boxes because I'm selling them. I do get some dust but a quick go with Swiffer usually solves the problem. None of them are on silicone bodies so dust isn't really an issue. I would love to have all of them in a detolf shelf but I don't have enough room for that many detolfs. Lol. Besides the girls will be lonely and they might get mad at me.

All your girls' setups sound and look really nice! I currently only have 2 girls, so I don't need that much space yet. I don't own a Detolf, but that's the easiest option.

I was going to buy a custom display case, I found a store that makes custom cases for under $100 each, but in the end I got lucky. I managed to pick up a similar wall display case, exactly one like I already have. Just take out the shelves and I've got a perfect space for my girls. Of course I will make sure that I still give them enough attention and not keep them locked up all the time.

well if you are going to fabricate something using (plexi) glass just make sure to make vent holes to let hot air out. condensation causes staining

mine move around the house with me at various times when I feel like bringing them with me. 2 of them ar perched on my piano at the moment, the third keeps watch over my bedroom. I can't imagine having them in a case, I'd have to open it up to bring them with me.

PVC outgasses with heat cycling, you'll notice that figure collectors who keep their figures unopened will complain of smells when they finally do open them or that something has vaporized and caused some marks in their paint.

I think a completely air tight enclosure would be bad in both caging the poor girl/being unable to handle them as well as possible chemical fumes potentially causing issues. I would much rather do their laundry and brush their wigs on a regular basis to keep the dust away than to deal with sealing them away.

I was never one to think brushing a wig would do anything for me... but it's oddly comforting. lol.
