Hey everybody, I have decided I'm going to try my hat in YouTube. So I'm not sure where the appropriate place to post this so mediators please move to the correct section if need be. Anyways, here is episode 1, it's really really choppy and weird. I'm trying to get used to this whole process so please forgive the terribleness lol.

I'm feeling a lot of pressure with this one. I mean Dollfie Dreams is a huge undertaking. I just hope I did well enough to not embarrass the hobby lol. Also sorry for the video being so long, there's just so much to talk about and I still didnt fit everything I wanted to.

I think you did fine covering the basics. Just remember to breathe in front of the camera. You did really well and I hope you decide to make more videos.

I've been watching your videos, and I'd like to give you some feedback if that's ok! I apologise in advance for how long this is cos it makes it look like there's all these problems but there isn't really, so I hope I dont come across as snooty or picky.

 

1) I actually really like your voice and delivery. Something about it is pleasant and easy to listen to, and you sound friendly. This is something I am completely incapable of pulling off.

2) For the second video, I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone who didnt know anything about DDs, which was kinda difficult, but in doing so I started to wonder if it got a bit confusing when you went into the different types. I think the main issue is that the way you explain things makes it sound like DD, DDII and DDIII are 'body types' the same way that DD, DDS and DDdy are, rather than the result of upgrades to the body itself, if that makes sense. Maybe I should show it to a newbie and get them to tell me if it was easy to understand. Not that you should redo it or anything, but I think it would have been a little easier to find if you'd first talked about the body types and then mentioned that the DD body has had 3 versions so far (DD, DDII and DDIII).

I also think you could benefit from using more photos. This was a good idea to do for dolls you dont have like the MDD but I think you could have also used stock photos of D'Coords and Akihabara Girls and maybe researched them just a little bit more. Otherwise it comes across as an information overload with no pictures to break it up.

 

Regarding the new episode:

Unfortunately looks like you're gonna have to add a caption or something to let people know that the standard models are being discontinued in May. Then again there will hopefully be new ones, so hopefully what you say about them being ''always available" is still true!

 

I think this was a good episode! If you want some clarification on the D'Coords, they're actually only available in two of the retail stores (Akihabara and Yokohama), and the tan isnt really 'sold out', it just only appears every now and then in the lineups (which changes every month). But I dont think you really need to worry about the specifics of that because I think the majority of your viewers are people who are looking to buy online - although it could be handy to know if any of them are visiting Japan any time soon as they make a pretty nifty souvenir as something you can only get there.

 

Are you going to talk about the other way of buying a DD - buying one of the blank heads and bodies and painting yourself (or commissioning a faceup)? If you havent planned it for an upcoming episode I think thats definitely worth addressing because its actually the cheapest way to get one new from Volks, which is definitely appealing to newbies.

 

And I dont know if you want to pimp this forum too much but I think it would be good to mention it as a resource for newbies who want to know things such as DD news (knowing when lotteries start and end, and when preorder windows close, for example, is something I know a lot of newbies are confused about), and also a good place to get example pictures of customised sculpts such as the Dollfie Dream Style Database subforum. That was invaluable to me to see how different each sculpt could look depending on the faceup, because its really hard for me to visualise it just from seeing the blank ones on the website. (It might also be good to mention that the standard models use the head sculpts you can buy blank, with the exception of Candy and Mirai).

 

anyway sorry for my word wall and I'm looking forward to the next episode - I wish this had existed 2 years ago though.

Haha thanks. I never really thought of myself as pleasant and easy to listen to. It must be the microphone because in person I'm quite loud lol. Oh also, I'm married with 2 kids and one is 5 months so all my recordings of these episodes and box openings generally are taken at 12-2am so I can have quiet and time to actual do this. Probably another reason why I'm so low toned.

You know after I posted it I was thinking the same thing, but it was already live so not much I can do about it now, although I could address it in another video if it came up. As for the pictures, I'm trying to strike a balance, I don't want the viewers to get too distracted by pop ups of pictures but I also don't want to have nothing to show at all. Trying to find the best balance of it, trying the less is more approach rofl.

Ok for this part, I know that those standard models will eventually be changed to newer versions or characters but I didn't want it to get too confusing either for me as I'm talking or for the viewers. I'm trying to be as minimal but informative for those who know nothing of the hobby. As for the D'Coords, I know that I didn't personally say it in my video but the picture I posted while I was talking has it on there about being only available in those 2 stores, however regarding the availability I was not aware of that. thanks for the info.

 

Finally as for that last part, (I think I did too many quotes), I will be doing another video in the future of customization and parts. I was going to plug in that it would be another way to get a DD.

To answer your question, Kanu was I think the only other tan DD besides the D'Coords. Not sure if there have been others?

As for the Super Dollfies tan is less uncommon. I believe 'sunlight skin' is a full choice option in the Kyoto store.

Also, where are these smartdoll profiles and backstories you mentioned? I know his main cast have them (so Mirai, Kizuka, Chitose, Eiji, Haruka and Kanata who arent yet smartdolls) but I've never seen any for the others, not even Ebony who was the first one to not be an existing CJ character.

Ok for tan, thanks for the input. I knew there was a tan doll from volks prior just wasn't sure if it was vinyl or resin. I had a feeling they were more common in resin but I wasn't 100%.

 

 

As for the background of Ebony, Ivory, and Harmony. It appears you are indeed correct. I could have sworn that when they were released there was some background info? I just checked and it looks like it only like to their sale page. I'll have to make a quick mention of that in my next video. Thanks for looking out and providing the info, it's much appreciated.

The other tan girl Volks made before Kanu was Sanjie:

 

 

She was one of the first girls to come out on the then "new" DD2 body and was part of the "Lost Angels" story of Volks own character girls. She was released back in 2005 along with the other "Lost Angels" girl Lagla. As you can see she had painted on eyes, not holes.

 

 

Two other "Lost Angels" girls were released in 2008 but neither were tan. So it was Sanjie, then Kanu and now the D'Accord girls for tan from Volks.
