sinclair Posted March 13, 2017 Up to this point I've been happy just shopping at Volks USA, but there is an outfit I want that I can get either via eBay or Volks Int. I know the total cost on eBay, $213 shipped. But on the Volks site it lists it as ~$156 plus fees and shipping (At least that's what Google says the cost in USD is when converted from JPY.). I can't tell what the fees plus shipping will be. For those that have shopped from Volks Int and shipped to the USA, which would you do, and why? Also, this would be my 1st ever Volks Int order, anything I need to know or be aware of? I'm kinda nervous and want to get it right.
Anna-neko Posted March 13, 2017 given choice between eBay and Volks themselves - I usually pick the actual company selling their own product aka Volks Anyway, 'fees' often means handling or tax (which aren't too bad, 697 yen on my last order) and shipping is EMS (stuff shows up super fast) and using my last order as example - 1,200 yen (was getting only one outfit set) Hope this helps
sinclair Posted March 13, 2017 That adds another $18 to my $156, which is still well below the $213 on eBay. So I just make an account and place an order and I'm good to go like Volks USA? No proxies needed? I think I just might be placing an order this week.

K-2 Posted March 13, 2017 I concur with Chise. On new stuff buy from the original vendor over an ebay reseller if possible every single time. Then I don't feel I'm lining a middle man's pocket (just Volks').
Gabriel Posted March 13, 2017 Silly question, but at the bottom of the registration page there's a question labeled "Age Restriction." The text for it is "You must be over 15 years old and if you agrees to accept the agreement and then select “Agree”." Uhm. OK? What am I agreeing to? Some invisible TOS? Am I agreeing to an age restriction/content filter? Also, quite confused why they need to know my birthday.

Also, quite confused why they need to know my birthday. Same reason all sorts of websites confirm ages - making sure you're an adult, thus a contract with you is fairly valid. No little kids are stealing mommy's credit card perhaps? They do have a lengthy wall of text about all [mostly] the things anyway https://www.volks.co.jp/guide_en/

This is only to prevent minors as chise said, from stealing mommy's credit card. If you're concerned here is all the stuff you agreed to. galatia9 Posted March 14, 2017 I would much rather purchase direct from Volks Japan than from eBay. I've purchased dolls and accessories from Volks Japan since 2005, and have never had a problem. On my latest order, the shipping cost and fees showed up in my order confirmation. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I saw it online during the order process. Gabriel Posted March 14, 2017 Thanks Chise and Mario. That's basically what I thought, but I was in overanalyze mode but overanalyzing the wrong direction. That said, I've never been asked my birthday to register for a store account.

Linda S. galatia9 When you're paying with paypal at least, it's the VERY last page. As in, you do the checkout with paypal, get redirected back, and then the full total is there and you're free to not hit the "submit order" button. It always makes me so nervous to do that, but it is there. sinclair Posted March 15, 2017 That brings up the next question, is it better to pay with PayPal or my Visa credit card?
Anna-neko Posted March 16, 2017 That brings up the next question, is it better to pay with PayPal or my Visa credit card? is your PayPal linked up to a different credit card? Or do you manually transfer money into PP and then pay... 'cause I just slide right on thru PP checkout 'cause never have wallet anywhere near me to type in all the cc info into yet another website (and PP is linked up to my credit card anyway, so with 2 clicks it'll charge it) Fun Fact: the cc's statement shows the actual billing line as Volks Inc with their California number, but buying from Volks USA website showed same contact info but VolksUSAinc for name
Gabriel Posted April 1, 2017 I've given it a shot. I ordered stuff from Dolpa 14 After Event. The only thing sold out this morning that I wanted were the ankle strap heels, so I'll try to catch those when VolksUSA does their lottery for these items. The 7th Dragoon Samurai outfit was available. I would have liked to have picked it up, but its richer than my blood at the moment. So, I'll see how it goes, and compare to VolksUSA prices when they post the items.
shikaree Posted April 1, 2017 Things are about 10% cheaper right now on international site versus Volks USA, if you have a card that has no foreign transaction fee. Used to be 15% cheaper like 1-2 weeks ago. RIP dollar. Shipping actually takes almost the same amount of time since it's shipped by EMS > Express Mail. Even delivers on Sunday. Shipping fee is usually a little more expensive, but really not that much more, except those odd times when they decide to charge $10 to ship a dollfie... The shoes sold out in less than 15 minutes. Some became available again this morning when they were removed from people's shopping carts but sold out again after a short while. Shoes always seem to sell out fast. They should really make more. Stellalina Posted April 3, 2017 Hello I wanted to ask a question about Volks Inc and Volks US. Are they completely different or can I order an item from Volks Inc and if Volks US Has it go pick it up that their warehouse? Or I Can't do that?? What's the price mostly on shipping out a doll for example like Rin and Len from Japan to Us?
sinclair Posted April 3, 2017 You can not order from Volks International and pick up from Volks USA, they are independent in that regards, but they are both official Volks stores.

Stellalina Posted April 3, 2017 Okay thank you! I just want to know one last thing does Volks US allow for pick up option? I know the store is closed and you can't go shopping there but do they allow you to go to the warehouse and pick up an item like said you were to buy a doll? Do they allow that? I keep hearing people telling me yes they do and then some telling me no they don't allow that anymore. So I'm confused.

But I don't think they're open weekends any more. Last I heard, they sometimes allow pickups. Yes, Pickup is indeed available(you select that option in checkout), BUT as a reminder, sales tax will be applied if you pickup from their office.(this is for people that live outside California and don't pay tax for Volks USA stuff) They are open Mon-Fri 11AM- 6PM (pacific time) If you ever have any questions you can call them, they are very kind people. They even helped me out when USPS screwed up my package
Stellalina Posted April 4, 2017 Thank you Mario for the kind reply! About the sales tax is that only applied to people who live outside of California ? Or does it also apply to people who live in California? So I live in LA And If I were to go pick it up they'd charge my the 9% sales tax right? Or am I confused? And thank you for the times and days I will make sure to keep that in mind!!

And thank you for the times and days I will make sure to keep that in mind!! Sales tax must be charged if the seller has a physical presence in the same state as the buyer. (so California resident buying from Volks USA) I haven't looked to see if there have been any changes in the past few years, but a few bigger places like Amazon have slowly began to voluntarily charge sales tax on out of state sales. Technically, you're always supposed to pay sales tax. For out of state purchases you're suppose to report that on your tax return and calculate a "use tax". But, well... IRS (or your state's Department of Revenue) usually won't hunt you down if you're just an average person.

And thank you for the times and days I will make sure to keep that in mind!! I think sales tax has gone down from 10% to 8%. Don't quote me on this I don't pay attention to tax. But this is applied to any person that physically goes to their store and purchase. Or to those that are getting the items shipped in state(in this case, California) must pay sales tax. TL;DR Those that purchase from VolksUSA and don't have it shipped to a California address, avoid sales tax on checkout. If you go to the physical store, you get charged tax regardless where you're from.
Stellalina Posted April 4, 2017 Ahh okay I understand now so I will have to pay it. Does anyone even know how much this 9% is? I assume probably like 50 bucks or 60 according to a calculator. Am I right? LOL Just want to make sure. For example I want to buy Len so 9% sales tax should be like 60 bucks right? LOL So It's like the same either way hahha Volks.
