mitsuki Posted April 12, 2011 Let me know how it goes. That wig looks really cute. I hope it can return to its former glory.
PrettyCranium Posted May 20, 2011 Ok, I think I may have messed up one of my wigs. Do I need to buy a new hair band? I think the one I took off broke. That brown string part is what I'm talking about. Not entirely sure what I'm doing, and I don't want to make things worse... And that other band that goes on the outside, how do I get it back on? it's not stretchy, it's just a bunch of threads sewn together... Ah, this happened to my Mari's wig. I undid the thread ties, but could not save/reattach them. I bought small, clear elastic bands and used those to re-tie the ponytails. It was very, very difficult. I must admit that I bought a second Mari's wig from EBay at a later time, even though the other one was fine (just being obsessive). I'll try to find some pics of Mari's replacement elastics for you. So it is possible to fix, but you will likely need to undo the other twin tail and then redo them both. Edited to add: link to pics of my wig fix: More in my Flickr stream. The fix looks the same except the hair bands are clear not brown. It took *hours* to redo, though. Very frustrating, especially since it happened right away, and her glasses broke too. Drizz Posted September 17, 2016 The rule for setting Volks wigs.... or any synthetic wig (I suppose) is to use steam! ^^ It's fairly simple: - Use your rollers or whatever works to get the correct size curls you're looking for - Heat a pot of water until steaming but not boiling. - I use a strainer to set the wig in for a few minutes and then remove and let the whole thing set & dry. Viola! Just always use common sense and stay away from dry heat or else your wig will become a melted mess. As I mentioned earlier the Volks wig oils works wonders on frizzy wigs and I have actually had great success spraying it on that curly wig once I received it. It was pretty frazzled from Volks so I removed it from my girl and actually sprayed it on the curls and brushed the wig in sections- now it's as smooth as it is in the official pictures. Maybe I should actually take some pictures for instructional purposes.... Anyhow, much luck with your wig setting adventures! I hope this helped~ ^^ I found this 5 year old post very helpful! I just recurled my girls hair with this method and it came out great! My doll clothes & accessories shop - http://www.dolldelights.com
baldylox Posted September 17, 2016 Drizz, I think you win for "Necroing Oldest Known Thread". At least it's on topic! Now you need to share a before and after pic so people can see how it turned out. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
sinclair Posted September 19, 2016 This is timely, Miku's wig is a mess. I've gone through half a bottle of Volks oil spray trying to tame her tails, boy do they suck it up. I might try the veggy oil, but I'm afraid of it going rancid and smelling. I made the mistake of using the Volks hair mist after I had one of her tails mostly good. I thought it mix fit it to keep it from tangling, all it did was turn it into a rats nest. I need to soak it in water, aka wash it really good it hopes to get the hair mist removed. The biggest issue is that the bottom fifth of her tails, where they get wider and have the slight curl, is all "damaged" as I would call it if it's real hair. This just lends to getting tangled over and over again just by sitting on the shelf. Would the hot water treatment also help unfrizz, aka "straighten" her hair?
