galatia9 Posted November 27, 2011 Hi everyone! I am so happy to have found this place, as I am planning to add a Dollfie Dream to my doll family! I currently have only resin BJDs (8 are Volks, 20 are 58cm and taller, and 2 are MSD size), but I love Dollfie Dreams. I really like the anime/manga look to them. I do my own maintenance on my BJDs, so I wanted to find out more about how DDs are put together before I get one, especially if I buy second hand. I've already looked around here a little and this place has been so helpful with that already. I plan to get a Yukino/HDD-03, but there are many head sculpts I like, and I love seeing the beautiful fullsets! My biggest worry about buying second hand is getting a head with a faceup already on it, and the previous owner or artist has used a paint that leaves a stain! XOHimitsuOX Posted November 27, 2011 Welcome! Yeap, staining is an issue. But takes time to remove, depending on how badly it is. It can take a few weeks to a month to remove a stain completely.
mitsuki Posted November 27, 2011 Welcome, galatia9! I sounds like you have a wonderful BJD family. It is great you are interested in DDs.
galatia9 Posted November 27, 2011 Thank you for the welcome, everyone! Yeap, staining is an issue. But takes time to remove, depending on how badly it is. It can take a few weeks to a month to remove a stain completely. I would love to try to rescue one of the several poor girls I've seen on DoA that no one seems to want, who have black acrylic paint for eyeliner, but I'm worried it won't come off completely! I know I can put on the oxy cream to try to remove it, or even just get a new head, but still... Welcome, galatia9! I sounds like you have a wonderful BJD family. It is great you are interested in DDs. I've liked DDs since the first time I saw one! But I don't think I saw them until after I started collecting the resin BJDs. Many of my resin BJDs have the anime aesthetic too, I prefer them to the more realistic looking ones. LordNoir Posted November 27, 2011 ^^ WELCOME! I'm also a large collector of resin dolls, though I don't have any Volks in my collection aside from my DD gals. I've found that I really enjoy how easy it is to customize the parts of the DDs due to not having to completely take the doll apart to change the bust piece and hand changing being able to be done in less than a minute. Halcyon Posted November 29, 2011 Welcome, galatia9~! My biggest worry about buying second hand is getting a head with a faceup already on it... Are you looking for an unpainted Dollfie Dream® head or a painted one? If you are looking for an unpainted head, try Volks.jp (International) or Volks USA (USA, Canada, and Mexico). I recommend not buying a second-hand unpainted head unless it's stain-free, coming from a non-smoking home, and the price is equal to or below what Volks, Inc. charges for their unpainted Dollfie Dream® heads. International: http://www.volks.co.jp/en/dollfiedream/index.html USA, Canada, and Mexico: http://www.volksusa.com/dollfie-dream.html However, if you are looking for second-hand painted head(s), I recommend buying only heads done with Mr. Color and Pastel. Zoukei-mura (ZM) acrylics and other ZM products are recommended as well. I would love to try to rescue one of the several poor girls I've seen on DoA that no one seems to want, who have black acrylic paint for eyeliner, but I'm worried it won't come off completely! I know I can put on the oxy cream to try to remove it, or even just get a new head, but still... Black acrylic from the ZM Acrylics - Basic Color Set? Zoukei-mura acrylics (including ZM black acrylic) are easy to remove. I hope I answered your questions. If you have any more, please ask. galatia9 Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for the information, Halcyon, I appreciate the help. I'm pretty familiar with the faceup products, since I've had resin BJDs (including Volks, which were my first) since 2005. I am more concerned about buying a used DD head with a faceup already on it, not knowing where the artist got the paints. If I saw one that I would consider buying, I would definitely ask the owner which paints they were. Nice to know that the ZM acrylics are easy to remove!! baldylox Posted November 29, 2011 I would love to try to rescue one of the several poor girls I've seen on DoA that no one seems to want. Oh I totally understand this feeling! There is one up now that's been up for months with no takers at $300. She's a normal skin 01 head girl and she's super cute. If I had the money I would have already rescued her. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
