elianti Posted March 26, 2017 Ohhh I saw something like this on twitter and was wondering how it worked! Do they sell them anywhere? I'd really like these for everyone since removing wigs to fix wonky eyes or change their placement is such a pain. xD I can't understand the text, but is it basically a mechanism with a spring + small magnet for each eye, and a 'stylus' with a magnet at the end??? shinegamix Posted March 26, 2017 idunno where you can get it.i cant read chinese. i think this is much lower tech. just platic springs and felt pads. the tool looks like a felt padded stick/pencil making my triumphant return
Ie-Aster Posted March 26, 2017 Ah, this is fantastic! I've seen something like this on Y!JA under the Dollfie Dreams section. It would be amazing for a stop motion where you could watch the doll's eyes moving to watch something or to look over when there's a noise. katnaper Posted March 28, 2017 This is awesome! I keep wondering how those where those bottom screws attach to and how it stays in place though (have to watch this several times) but yeah, I'd love these for my girls. It will give them more expression. If anyone finds out where to get them please post! We have our own BLOG. Please visit us at the House of Nyan by clicking this link or our sig above. See you there. Monty Posted March 28, 2017 http://earhart.la.coocan.jp/erf_annex/eyemoover/eyemoover.htm It's this guy. I saw it on twitter too and thought it was really nifty, especially cos it looks like you can stick other eyes on the back of it and rotate them around to switch them. Unfortunately, as you can see, their site is broken as HELL, and even viewing it on a Japanese laptop in Japan its a bunch of broken symbols for most of the text. Yikes. (I dont know what it is, but when I browse the websites for circles for Dolpa etc, a weirdly huge percentage of them have sites that look like they were made in 1992 and then never updated. Easy, free web templates/blogs exist now, guys! ;_;) But you can see photos to show how it works, and it also shows that they makes them in different sizes. I hope I likcan get one eventually, they look like fun. There is a link to the yahoo auctions account at the bottom but its currently empty. EDIT: NEVER MIND, there's a new site! And its not even eye-burning! http://erf-hobby.com/eyemover/eyemover.htm There's a link to an order form. If anyone is interested, I can ask him if he does international orders? Kinda thinking of getting one myself, so I could get a few if anyone wants me to be a proxy. (Just not for a few months, tryna save money) Only thing that gives me pause is the idea of actually gluing the things into their heads. I wonder if i could just use a crapload of blutac?? *twitter*instagram*art*
tunedbysaturnsl1 Posted March 28, 2017 Oh yes. I'm going to need these! @Torino, If you do get extras, count me in for a set, please.
elianti Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) @ Torino: The website you linked has has pretty much all of the text besides numbers as broken text to me on my mobile phone. xD But the pictures and the video(I pretty much TeTeTe'd through the whole thing lol) were really useful! I saw some owner blogs about this kind of eye moving thing and was wondering what the pins were for! So it really is just to keep the backing inserted. It's too bad that it would need to be trimmed a bit when used with obitsu neck pieces. The person at this blog seemed to use poster putty successfully so you probably could use blutack as well. I'm not sure how much they're charging but if it's reasonable then I'm interested! I use 20mm eyes though so I wonder if they have a size that'll work. I don't think I ever saw a 20mm anywhere on that page edit: okay I found the info.. a bit steep to get one for everyone lol Now I really want to see if I can MacGyver one or three of these. shinegamix Posted March 29, 2017 3d printers cost 500 bucks. anyone wanna start a business? making my triumphant return
katnaper Posted March 30, 2017 Now I really want to see if I can MacGyver one or three of these. I second this. Hubby has some Pla plates sitting around somewhere and I'm gonna see if he can do something similar to the first version. That and I might try to find some plastic tubes that are big enough to fit an eye and see if that works. 3d printers cost 500 bucks. anyone wanna start a business? That would be even better. Monty Posted March 30, 2017 How much?! Okay so for some reason the site went completely bonkers on my phone and looked like the old site, but it works on my computer. (the old site looks bonkers on both my phone and computer) Each kit is 2980 yen, 3960 for it already put together for you. For those who cant see the order form properly (idk if it just doesnt work on mobile or if you need japanese fonts installed or whatever, but its weird that it completely glitches into nonsense on my japanese phone??? cool site dude), there are quite a lot of things you can select regarding eye size and what type of doll they're for. I just cant figure out the difference between 'select eye mover' (it actually says 'select kit, ok to leave blank)' and 'head type'. For 'select eye mover' the options are DD/Obitsu or 'other hobby doll', SD/resin doll 22mm, SD/resin doll 18mm and SD/resin doll 16mm. For 'head type' the options are DD, SD, Resin Doll and Foreign Resin Doll. (I have no idea why the latter two are separate, japanese doll fans regularly call any resin doll other than volks 'foreign resin doll' but if there's already a category for SD I dont know what regular 'resin doll' is supposed to be??) Then eye size is another option on its own as you can see. So I'm not quite sure what 'select eye mover' which has both a head type and limited size, is....but if it says its ok to leave it blank I guess I...would...? 'Install' i think means the kit is put together, not actually installed in the dolls head for you...unless I'm mistaken. Those options are to do it yourself or have it done for you. *twitter*instagram*art*
Noxxbunny Posted March 30, 2017 Oh man...I may need one of these. Easily moveable eyes were just about the only thing I liked about having a Pullip/Taeyang doll before. To be able to do that with DD is really appealing! I like how the blog that elianti posted took it a step further by allowing you to just keep rotating so you don't have to swap eyes as often. It did make me laugh though, even if I actually think it's an awesome idea. SlyViolin Posted March 30, 2017 I would like to get a couple of sets of these if anyone is going to place an order and can decipher the form.
elianti Posted March 31, 2017 Well, I was looking into this a bit more and I saw that someone made this cute little something: From this blog. This basically just uses 2mm vinyl wire and 4 or 5mm springs depending if you're using 22 or 24mm eyes(plus a touchscreen stylus from Daiso). However this kind of eye moving thing only works with eyes with the stubby thing at the back of some eyes like Volks animetics, so this one isn't for me(plus I want to be able to spin eyes around to reveal a second eye design lol) But for those who mainly use those types of eyes, this is a CHEAP alternative! I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but this guy got fed up using a glue gun to attach eyes so he made this instead??? That's pretty amazing. xD
Janeway Posted April 1, 2017 Cool idea. I would want one in my girl's head.
Monty Posted April 2, 2017 This person did it with a bunch of sponge. I'd like to try this first, but curious how well it actually holds the eyes in place, and it lacks the magnets. 1 *twitter*instagram*art*
senyac Posted April 3, 2017 I have a couple 3d printers so I will be looking to making something myself it should not be to hard to make something that dose not require gluing it in , if its made the right shape and size to fit tightly inside the head I don't think glue would be required now to find the time to model and 3d print them I will do DD and Smart doll versions seeing I have both
SlyViolin Posted September 12, 2017 I recently got a new head who needed eyes inserted and thought I would play around with it. What I did was similar to the sponge guy, however I had a bag of hobby fill laying around the house. For those not familiar with it it's teddy bear stuffing and my bag cost me $4 for 200g and that would be enough to do ~50 dolls. What I did: 1: Place eyes in head 2: Place piece of material behind the eyes (Just incase the stuffing would start poking out through the sockets) 3: Stuff head with a fistful and a half of hobby fill 4: Spend the rest of the night poking my new girl in the eyes repeatedly Troubles I had: - I wasn't able to get the eyes of my girl straight the first time. With stationary eyes tacked in you are able to turn the head and look at it straight on without the eyes falling back out which is a lot easier. However, this might just be because this is only the second time I've ever had to install eyes. - I wasn't quite able to make her look up without having a few attempts. I could make her look to both sides and down after a single push but trying to make her look up usually resulted in the eyes resetting to the neutral position. I was using type M eyes in a DH007 with modded eye sockets so that may be factors.
Nikn Posted September 12, 2017 This is so cool, I might try the stuffing method.
tunedbysaturnsl1 Posted October 11, 2018 I know. Bringing this thread back from the dead. I ended up finding a newer/updated video from the creator of this. I was able to e-mail him direct. He’s very responsive as well. I have a set coming soon. I’m going to test on “Phoebë” shortly after I get it. So for those that are still interested, try emailing him instead. He’s shipping to me in the US so international shipping doesn’t seem to be an issue.
