puxlavoix Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) So, Yukino arrived today!! It was a loooong week, I ordered november 17 and she got in today (70 usd tax, but was TOTALLY worth it ). Maybe if the post office worked a bit faster i could have gotten her since thursday but there was a delay and they didnt send the pick up notice till yesterday at 4.00 pm, so I had to wait til today to get her, but I guess thats great cause it gave me plenty of time to play with her, her wigs, her home made wig cap (#9 white balloon) and Im just waiting for her clothes which should arrive anytime... The thing is I soon found out she needed a stand asap, but lucky me I had been thinking ahead to this moment and I decided to take the DIY approach. I didnt get one from volks or anywhere else for that matter because i prefer to put the money somewhere else (like clothes). I was going for the looks of the "official ones" and i guess i kinda achieved it... Its not hard at all and I guess many of you already have done this in any way or another, if not i hope you find it useful PS. SORRY for links instead of pics, but it seems I cannot post any yet material and tools required (i took a quick trip to the hardware store and found all materials i had in mind, so I guess you wont have much trouble finding them) 16 x 12 x 1 cm Chemcast acrylic sheet 3/16" drill bit 3/16" 27" metal rod 3/16" wire clamps coat hanger tools (didnt have to buy these, they were around in the house) slip joint pliers drill metal saw First off I used a ruler and a marker to mark the place where the metal rod should insert into... This is a rectangular shape because I couldnt get it any other shape but sure it can be cut to a hexagon, circle or whatever you like. This material is very sturdy, they use it instead of glass because its MUCH stronger, does not break, blend or scratch and is lighter than glass. Once you defined where the rod should insert into, take your drill with the 3/16 bit and carefully and slowly drill through the acrylic sheet. You have to be very careful because it will go through it as butter. Consider making it as tight and straight as possible because this is where the rod gets inserted into. By now you should have used a ruler to determine how long the rod needs to be, in my case i cut it 11 inches, just as high as her hips. Use the pliers to get a hold of it and saw away... Dont worry to make it perfect, you can sand it later. Now insert the rod into the hole you already drilled into the acrylic sheet. Youll have to push a little hard or carefully use a hammer. The rod goes in really tight and firm. It being 1cm thick really helps to the weight and also to keep the rod steady and therefore your girl. In my case it doesnt come out anymore but can be rotated so no need to glue or attach any kind of screw Next take the coathanger and cut a section of it. For the sake of this guide i shaped it like a "2". You will find that shaping it like this will give the wire more than enough strengt to hold your daughter. Now insert both the tie rod and the wire section through the wire clamp and tighten the nuts to the desired height. The point of using the clamp is to make it adjustable Remove the protective paper from the acrylic and place your daughter in your new stand =) Total investment: 5 bucks for the acrylic, 6 for the metal rod and 1 for the clamps = 11 bucks. Time: 30 minutes. As you see, at this cost you cant beat it, its VERY sturdy and Yukino sits firmly on it. I even tried holding it by the base and by the rod... no wobble and no problems at all. EDIT: Here´s the final result after re shaping it and covered with some white plastic tape. After 10 months its still standing strong, doesnt wobble or flip at all, it even has some extra room for Extra´s boots so she doesnt need to stand with her feet so close together. MaxArcher Posted November 27, 2011 Interesting approach, looks like it works pretty well. How about using some transparent flsh tank tubing (or similar) to slip over the "saddle" to make it less likely to damage the doll? I'd worry a little about the bare coathanger wire causing discoloration. DD Beatrice - DD Saber/EXTRA

puxlavoix Posted November 29, 2011 You did a good job on that stand. I mite throw my hat in on makeing a stand also. Thanks fenrir! Funny thing is that I guess many of us would have bought a volks' or coolcats for sure If we could find them just around the corner... Even at $60, thing is that transit times kill me

I'd worry a little about the bare coathanger wire causing discoloration. It pretty much gets the job done hehe . Thanks for pointing that out, actually I re-did the whole section to look-work more like the coolcat, because I thought it might stress the vynil too much and could cause some marks and also used some tubing to protect her from the bare metal as you suggested, thanks!
