Mirai/Candy head on MDD body?

Recommended Posts

toughstermcg

Hey there, not sure if this is the right subforum for photo requests so feel free to move it if there's a more suitable one~

I'm considering a Mirai (current DDIII release version) head for a spare MDD body I have, but I'm kind of finicky about the proportions of DD heads on MDD bodies. Has anyone put this headmold on an MDD, or could you swap it on and take a photo for reference? Doesn't matter if the head and body are different skintones, I just wanna make sure it doesn't look too bobbleheaded before I get attached to the idea.

Is there a megathread or database anywhere of like, EVERY head on different bodies, or on MDD in particular? I want to see different combinations all day long but I don't wanna be a nag about every passing idea, haha

You're in luck, because Mirai and Candy have been released on MDD before as the first MDDs released! Their faceups are closer to their original release than their current, but the Volks webpage for them should hopefully satisfy any curiosity you had about proportions.

While that's true, I'm fairly confident that both the actual face sculpt and (more importantly for my purposes) the actual scale of the heads is different for MDD Mirai/Candy versus the DDIII version. I've seen pictures of other MDD character heads on regular DD necks, and they're often too small to fit on it at all: there's about a 2.5cm difference in neck cirbleepference between the two, even if standard DD heads are supposed to be suitable for MDD as well. There's a reason you tend to only ever see DDH01 and 10 as MDDs out of the standards, and it's because a lot of heads just look super odd on the tiny kid body.

The first release Candy and Mirai heads on MDD bodies ARE actually smaller than the ones released on the DD2 and now DD3 bodies. I know I saw some side by side pics before somewhere but I can't find them now.

I don't own either girl so I can't show any pics of them but I've got 11 MDD sized girls and most of them use either the 01 or 04 heads due to how nicely they work on that body. Other heads work nicely too but if you're particular about sizing and proportions, it's not easy finding something that will fit those parameters.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

And while *that* may be true, it would not be prudent to dismiss the comparison out of hand just because the scale of the heads is different. For example I would find even the smaller scaled Mirai and Candy heads used on the initial MDD release to be too large for my personal taste, and knowing that would likely not find myself pleased with the scale of the DD3 releases.

Your entire post comes off very "I'ma explain you a thing," when you asked a question and received an answer appropriate to the question as initially presented. It comes off, at least to me, very rude.

Reading my post back, it does get a bit condescending, yeah. Even though we're all kind of fanatics here I'm in the habit of not assuming everyone I talk to knows every detail about whatever the topic at hand may be, so I came at your post from the perspective of "let's put on a nice face and be informative" and in a word, I typed it in my customer service voice. Which, if you use it in real life rather than in a customer service role, is actually pretty rude. My apologies.

You have a good point that I should consider the MDD Mirai & Candy photos I can find as a good reference point. I totally have been disregarding the old sculpts because I don't really feel anything about them, unlike the new ones, but I'm kind of cutting off my nose to spite my face there aren't I?

It's quite alright, I've recently left retail management so I get Customer Service Voice. I switched to mine in my reply, too; I'm so used to the "customer freakout" that people tell you about when you work in retail, and I was preparing myself for that, so I owe you a bit of an apology as well. I've been on the Internet for so long it's really easy to forget that this forum is often a bastion of sanity.

I find myself guilty of the same quite often!

I've been trying to track down a photo of the new Mirai on an MDD body on Flickr, as that's usually a great source (and the eye candy doesn't hurt ;P), but I've had no luck so far. I will keep an eye out, either way!

Sorry if this is a dumb idea, but would it be possible to make a digital mock-up of how Mirai/Candy would look on a MDD?

If you could find a good picture of both a DD and MDD body and then take a stock photo of Mirai, you could use the DD body to make sure Mirai is to scale. Then I assume you could just copy-paste the head onto the MDD body and get a rough approximation of how it would look.

I don't know much about photoshop, though, so I don't know how easy/hard this would be, and I'm not even sure if using the DD body in the same picture as a MDD body would even work for making Mirai be in the right scale, but I figured I might as well throw this idea out here.

Anyways, I hope you find a solution to this question. If I find any pictures of Mirai or Candy on a MDD body while browsing through the internet, I'll be sure to show you.

I can save you some of the trouble of digitally mocking up Mirai/Candy on MDD. My Kyonko has one of the old Mirai/Candy heads, and I have an MDD body...

Kyonko has a custom face-up, not any of the Volks Mirai/Candy face-ups, though. Honestly, I don't think chibi Kyonko looks all that bad. I may do more with this... I can try a different wig, but I'm not opening up this head to swap out eyes. It's hard as a rock.

Thank you, I feel like this gives me a fair idea of how it would go! It is a little more chibi looking than I'd usually go for, but if a Mirai head comes my way I think I like the face enough to give it a try.

And oh my goodness, I had exactly one head with the old, hard plastic headcaps and once was too many. I still kinda pine for the old DDH05 Kyoko head but like you said, getting those on and off are just...not something I need to deal with, haha.
