Loot pics from my Japan trip!

Recommended Posts

baldylox

As we all know, you can't go to the "Nerd Mecca" that is Japan without spending huge amounts of cash on trinkets and toys and doll stuff! So now is the time where I show everyone all the fun things I got from my trip!

There aren't a ton of close up photos of this stuff yet as half of it has yet to be put up on shelves or into the correct clothing containers. So this will basically be photos of the luggage I had and how I stuffed things in there to get them home. This isn't all pretty photos tho! I'm going to learn yall some stuff about how to pack properly so you can get the maximum amount of goodies into a bag!

So let's start with my carry on bag.

34056126271_df26490a10_z.jpg001 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

I wanted a bag that was a semi hard case in order to protect the more breakable or valuable items I would be bringing over or back. Manami travelled in this case both ways as did my camera and a few other things. The trip back tho, I had to put my laptop into my backpack ( personal item as deemed by the airline ) along with other things I needed to get to quickly. Everything else went into this bag as seen here:

In the above pic you can see Manami and lots of other stuff. This was one side of the case as it had 2 zippered compartments. The other side looked like this:

34029766252_9322a5c998_z.jpg003 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Manami was NOT happy about her travelling situation...

"You left me in that bag for TWO DAYS! And with no beer or cookies? I almost died!"

You obviously didn't try to dig around for anything or you'd have found the Kit Kats.

"We had Kit Kats? Where?"

34029747932_0dbffb9129_z.jpg004 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Right here in the compartment across from you. See?

"DAMMIT!"

Now for the other stuff I had in there. These are good luck charms, magnets and other trinkets for friends and family.

34029718482_4769d89400_z.jpg006 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Here's some Nendo Petites, doll clothing, a small poster from the Ghibli Museum, some wigs and some UFO catcher figures.

And here's everything unwrapped so you can see it better.

Heh, I got these "treats" just to mess with people at work. I told them that these were everyday Japanese snacks that were VERY popular. Needless to say, some people wouldn't even try them due to the looks of the food or the smell. I was dying laughing the entire time.

34056030121_90959ee144_z.jpg008 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Alright, on to the next piece of luggage! This was Beccas and since it was pretty sturdy, we put lots of boxed items into it.

33344546554_4aa9dafcf1_z.jpg009 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

On the left are all our paper goods, leaflets, menus and receipt stuff.... anything paper was stored here so it didn't get mushed up. On the right are all the boxed figures and toys.

34146290726_3154c0d502_z.jpg010 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Becca had some boxed stuff too but I just pics of the things I bought. Here we see some nice figures, a friggin Nendo Petite tank, some Cupoche stuff and some Pure neemo sized clothing.

A word about that clothing. We got those outfits at what is basically a Dollar Store setup. Those outfits fit the Pure Neemo girls perfectly and only cost us 100 yen each! Needless to say we got one of each kind because why the hell not?

33802812280_2cfcb7a718_z.jpg011 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Ok, time for some learnin'! Check out these boxes.... one is a pretty Ryomou figure and the other is a tank. But wait, you can't see into them can you? Wanna know why?

34146250326_7b2e7db223_z.jpg012 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Because I packed ALL OF THIS into those two boxes to save space!

33344486294_be2c75b969_z.jpg013 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

There were loads of Nendo Petites, flattened pennies, small gashapon and figures, loads of extra Azone/Obitsu frame parts and other things. Why take up valuable space for these little things elsewhere when you can put them inside those other boxes where there's so much empty space? We all did this wherever we could and it made a big difference.

Speaking of needing space and using it carefully..... what happens when you find that you've purchased too many things and can't fit them all into the luggage you brought?

That's easy....

Buy one more bag! ONE MORE BAG! ONE MORE BAG! ONE MORE BAG! ( Sorry, that's an inside joke. )

Here's the one I bought because I had too much stuff.

34055915911_497160ded0_z.jpg015 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

I made sure to find one that was tough and had a hard case to it. This one cost me $50 and was worth every penny. Originally, I had packed a small duffle bag to bring back more goodies in but since that wasn't large enuff to fit some of the boxed items I bought, I decided to buy a new piece of luggage and then toss that duffel bag into my other large bag unused. It made way more sense and I didn't get charged for another checked bag on the airplane.

Anyways, here's all the stuff we put into this new bag:

34146192376_13ceae06b6_z.jpg016 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

I was astonished by the sheer amount of figures still available for Evangelion. And almost all of them were at super cheap prices! Here's the first batch of them...... none of these came with boxes so they were wrapped in bubble wrap for protection for the trip.

34055874881_db1dbb5e1f_z.jpg017 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

These are all the boxed items.

34146161476_ec2c2a6723_z.jpg018 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

And some close ups. I went absolutely bonkers on Nendo Petites this trip. They were so damn cheap tho! I was averaging like 300 yen each for them! I couldn't say no!

33344409874_05f9ed0b73_z.jpg019 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

33375836013_45f3c68c46_z.jpg020 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Alright, enuff of the non doll stuff! THIS is the bag you've all been waiting for.... it's the one with all my doll goodies in it!

33344393424_27bc12afac_z.jpg021 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

There was so much stuffed into this bag that I had to take multiple pics in order to show things properly. Otherwise it would have been one photo of a bunch of bags that no one could see into. LOL

Here's all the stuff I bought for my pure Neemo girls from the Azone store in the Radio Kaikan building.

33802635410_8a5a5f3e51_z.jpg022 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Here's a bunch of shoes, eyes and clothing for my 50 and 60cm girls.

34055787101_ed6d4581d0_z.jpg023 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Here's all the stuff I bought from Dollce and Dolk and From-Sen. So many cool things in there!

34055771821_fc149a59e8_z.jpg024 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Smartdoll store goodies! Most of these were in the bargain bin area so I saved a bunch of money there. But I did buy some wigs and eyes at full price. But they did give me 3 small and 3 large clear bags for free!

33375763953_4e5aaa606e_z.jpg025 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Now for the big haul.... all the Volks items! These were purchased at several different places such as Volks Akiba and Yokohama, Mandarake, Nakano Broadway and Jungle. I really scored on a few of these like the original Saber Maid set that doesn't stain, complete for $80! Also got the Rei school uniform for my Reika so now all 3 of my Rei clones can have official uniforms. And the topper was that Candy Pop dress..... I got that in the Volks Yokohama store, it was the last one they had and as soon as I saw it I snapped it up. There's also a few of those Dollpoint limited wigs in there, I couldn't say no to those either.

33344331514_88bb1eeb46_z.jpg026 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

And now for the random stuff. Most of this is from the dollar store but there's random bits from other places too like the Catbus magnet from the Ghibli Museum, the Rei patch from a Kinokuniya bookstore and the two surgical masks on the bottom right given to us by people on the street handing them out as advertising.

34055723441_4913ebce89_z.jpg027 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

Lastly, here's a close up of the stretched pennies I got! All but 4 of these were made by me at machines all around Tokyo! It was a blast to try finding them and also when we found them randomly when we didn't expect to.

33802561130_213dec8aee_z.jpg028 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr

So that's it for the haul! I did manage to take close ups of all the Rei and Asuka figures so if you're interested in seeing those, please check here:

Thanks for looking!

Wow, you sure made the most of it! You packed that stuff up like a clown car.

Just so/others you know, the 'dollar store' is Daiso, and they have stores in the US and Australia as well (potentially elsewhere too!). The ones in Sydney carry those cheap doll outfits and I've heard the US ones do too.

They're extremely cheaply made so you kinda get what you pay for but they're not bad for 100 yen/$2.80/whatever the US Daiso charges. The doll they're made for is skinnier and has shorter legs than a pure neemo S but a much larger bust, which means that the skirts and dresses are a bit on the short size while the chest area is a bit too baggy for XS. It's pretty easy to hide the flaws in photos though.

Ahh, this is great!

What all flavors of Kitkats did you get? I see strawberry, raspberry, sake, and green tea but I don't know the others.

If I ever make it over, the dfferent Kitkats are definitely something I want to try. The green tea and some of the fruit ones occasionally show up in Asian shops but a lot of them never seem to make it to the States (especially not to where I live now )

Your Volks and general outfit hauls look great too *__* I love all the 1/3 accessories.

At home: Mei (DDP Lucy custom), Aku (DDB Takane custom)

En route: L. (DD Matoi)

Thank you everyone! It was so much fun digging thru shops for these things. Like someone said, it was a treasure hunt for sure. Sometimes things took a while to find, other times things fell into my lap. And still other times, Ed and Becca forced me to buy things. But no matter what, I bought stuff I liked and thought was neat and that always works out in the end.

The other flavors were sake, plum raisin, sakura petal and dark chocolate with shaved almonds and cranberries. Every one of them is delicious but that sake version is amazing. The smell when you open the wrapper is pure sake, it gets in your nose and makes you smile. And when you eat it, there's a taste you know but can't place until you think about it a bit..... banana! I was like WTF why is this here? But it just fits perfectly. I have to control myself with these because if I don't they'd all be gone by now.

I never would've thought to pack smaller stuff inside bigger figure boxes ... I know what I'm doing when I hit Otakon. c:

Now THIS is a haul! So much awesomeness in each luggage! I'm kinda jealous you were able to find all of those AZO2 shorts! Were they from the Azone store? I've been wanting the denim ones for ages. xD I love the shots of the conventional souvenirs for friends and family, compared to all of the fun anime/doll shopping gets!

Actually, I didn't think of it either. My buddy Ed who was with me on the trip suggested it as he'd done it on his previous trip with much success. As you can see, it worked well for me too. And I'm glad you're going to use this for Otakon! Make sure you share loot pics with us here.

Now THIS is a haul! So much awesomeness in each luggage!

Thank you! By the time I got home, I had forgotten some of the things I bought so it was quite fun going thru everything again, finding hidden treasures I'd forgotten I purchased.

I'm kinda jealous you were able to find all of those AZO2 shorts! Were they from the Azone store? I've been wanting the denim ones for ages. xD

All the shorts in actual Azone bags were indeed bought at the Akihabara Azone store. The other shorts you see were bought at various other places like From-Sen, Dollce and Dolk. I'm a huge fan of denim shorts so I buy almost every set I see!

I love the shots of the conventional souvenirs for friends and family, compared to all of the fun anime/doll shopping gets!

Thanks! I had to bring back "normal" stuff for people because Lord knows what my parents would think of me giving them Rei and Ryomou figures.... LOL

Impressive haul! I'm going to Japan tomorrow with a hard shell carry-on like yours and a backpack. I will need a lot of self control once I'm there.

Thanks! If you're wanting to go to doll related places in Akihabara, you'll definitely want to hit up the Radio Kaikan building for Volks, Azone and Jungle. Dollce, Dolk, Mandarake and From-Sen are all stand alone stores but easy to find. Make sure to look in small shops too because we found a few doll related outfits and things in random places.

Thank you! With just those things, you will DEFINITELY need either a lot of self control or another check in bag.
