direpoodle Posted January 31, 2018 That's much better than I expected honestly!! I hope he does show the seam lines soon, because that will be a deciding factor for a lot of people (though it doesn't bother me too much). I doubt that I'll deviate from vinyl, but she looks really good in the photo!
cfx Posted January 31, 2018 As mentioned, I'm sure he chose picture angles here to intentionally not show them to prove his point. He's acknowledged they're there before and that some won't like them. In this post he wrote this: Folks who like BJD's already love "Delicious Ball Joints" (some people hate them as you know) but when folks see Cortex they will love the "Delicious Parting Lines" which is very minimal anyway. We will still continue to sell the vinyl versions for those who have an allergy to parting lines but not ball joints.
NeeP Posted February 1, 2018 I imagine he will show them eventually, but he was trying to "prove a point" with this post... ? Hopefully... I also want to see how the parting lines will look, not that it will bother me if they're too obvious. The seam lines aren’t going to bother me, unless they are very sloppy, but I can’t imagine anything from Smart Doll being sloppy. To me, it would be like the bust line on the vinyl dolls, or the ball joints in a BJD; it just is. But I’d like a picture with on of the girls showing off one of the seams. I’d like to think a Cortex girl would be proud of her seams. Niki P. Vinyl brood at home: Len, Noah, Kenji, Rinto, Kiri, Eiji, Anais, Rin, ‘Red’, Lenka, Kai, Midoriya, Marc, ‘Sue’, Terra, Night, Frankie, Anna and Chitose. It_Maybe459 Posted February 1, 2018 I don't think the seam lines going to bother me either. I do wonder what the texture of the cortex dolls will be like? Vinyl has a really soft feel to it,I have trouble imagining the cortex being that soft.
Yumeiro Posted February 2, 2018 Think "dust and grime" might be an issue due to the seams..? Even if it would be easy to clean, it would be annoying if there are small enough gaps for dust to gather...

Danny has stated that the plastic used for the Cortex doll is soft I'm interested to know the type of plastic he is using ?
It_Maybe459 Posted February 4, 2018 Soft plastic? Now I really want to know what they feel like. Any time frame as to when they will be available.
senyac Posted February 4, 2018 no time frame has been stated yet Danny has stated he is doing further testing before release , so I am guessing 6 months or so .
Hoshiko_Blue Posted February 4, 2018 While I don't mind waiting, I'd like to have more information... I mean, let me see the real deal, the seamlines, if he's planning to sell them with clothes or as kits... This things ultimately affect the final price and therefore my planning
ajl Posted February 4, 2018 These look really good. I was debating on a smart doll at first, but this type just might get me more interested later down the line! Really curious to hear the official price announced though. I think $200 is the sweet spot for these.
Mizuumi-no-Otome Posted February 5, 2018 I'm pretty excited about this and I'll probably grab one whenever they come out! Specifically would love for the tan skin dolls to have an injection molded counterpart- the long legs of Smart Doll would be perfect for an eventual custom Sailor Pluto, which is my second favorite senshi but not so amazing that I'd want to buy a 600$ doll to use as her base. I like vinyl but Smart Dolls come across as less interesting than DD so I'm not too keen on spending a fortune on one- I had v1 Kizuna and Mirai and I sold them after barely even looking at them for a year- and I'm no stranger to seam lines as I mostly collect fashion dolls which are usually injection molded. To put into perspective, one of my favorite Fashion Royalty dolls cost me around 300$- paying that for a Smart Doll, which is larger and more 'worth it', is a great deal imo. Hoshiko_Blue Posted February 5, 2018 Yes, I agree with Serena-Hime, the size/price ratio is really good with the Cortex and I also think that they would be a great way to try out the hobby. At least for me it's a matter or finding out if the 1/3 scale is something I can work with or not because I've never had a doll that big (aside from a 60 cm tall Bratz for collectors which I love very much but do nothing with). There are a lot of pros with this model and personally the seam lines aren't a big deal, I mean, you can always cover them with clothes and edit them out of photos. So yeah, it was a really smart (yup, bad joke) move on Danny's side.
It_Maybe459 Posted February 5, 2018 True, if seams don’t bother you then the pro seam to out way any cons Wonder how easy it will be to give them a new face up? The main con I see is if they really end up being under $300, I may end up going “they so cheap compared to normal dd/smd I’ll get 2” because I have no will power when it comes to dolls

And let's just say I'm pretending like I don't already know that I'll end up hoarding Smart Dolls in the years to come
Panda_Dolliess Posted February 5, 2018 Maybe tutorials on how to paint pullips and blythes will be helpful, since those dolls are made of plastic and not vinyl and some products needed might be a little different. I watch a lot of face up videos and have done a few myself and many artist use the same exact materials for blythes/Pullips , resin BJD, and DD/SmDs. I personally find vinyl to be the most difficult because of the squishy texture, but I'm sure the injection mold isn't nearly as squishy.
Hoshiko_Blue Posted February 5, 2018 This is definitely an useful information, thank you I doubt they'll be squishy at all actually, I kinda expect a soft, smooth skin texture rather than something you can actually squish. But I hope I'm wrong, because who doesn't love squishy boobs?
It_Maybe459 Posted February 7, 2018 Thanks for the information MaKayla_Panda doesn’t seem like there will be much trouble customizing the faces and heh heh squishy boobs

Hoshiko_Blue Posted February 8, 2018 Has there been any rumors on price for the injection molded dolls yet? I recall a 30000 ¥ appearing somewhere at some point, but it's an estimate and we don't know if it's referred to the apparel set or the basic doll. I myself would like to know something more... Bloodember Posted February 8, 2018 That would be great if they were 30000 yen or less.
Hoshiko_Blue Posted February 8, 2018 I really hope they'll be less than 30K because I'm already in "gotta catch 'em all" mode Danny said Cortex is due to be officially announced this month, so it can be really any day now I can't wait (Side note: yes, I'm aware that I abuse emojis and I'm sorry if someone finds it annoying)

Hoshiko_Blue Posted February 16, 2018 Whoa! When did Danny say that? Can you send provide a link or something? I'm sorry for not having replied earlier, but I've been without Internet access for three days... However, here is the link, it's from an Instagram post: I got confused, though, because the post dates back to January, so I assume Danny was just talking about presenting the product in general and not about officially revealing it, with an ETA and all... I don't know though
