Akai Okami Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) So I got this body knowing there were gonna be issues. But I'm still a bit of a newb and even after going through every thread in here I still have questions. Any advice or help would be appreciated. ♥ Now, I've only played with a DDII briefly with my first girl, and didn't like it so I sold it...now I have one again but I'm determined to work with it! I have read through so many threads and looked at pics of the internal skeleton but...*sigh* I just don't know. Her right knee is the main issue. compared to my DDIII girl: It's doing a thing? Took it partially apart (as far as I am comfortable) and it seems to be sticking out a bit. I can't push it back up and in. Also....is it just me, or are the outer skin parts totally different?? Anyone know if the one is just modded or if it's from another body or something? Can I maybe mod the weird one to match the top of the normal one? ********* Second, and just as confusing in it's own way..is her elbows. They bend different ways and it's almost as if the vinyl doesn't match up or is twisted? Or maybe something inside is twisted? I haven't taken them apart, as I've never done that and am a bit chicken. If I can't fix her, then I'll just make due. She can still function ok with her quirks. ^^ And yes I know I can get replacement parts, but I kind of want to just work with what I've got. She's not broken, and I need to learn this kind of stuff eventually! Edited May 10, 2017 by Guest
baldylox Posted May 9, 2017 First off, these issues aren't difficult to fix so don't worry. Let's go one at a time. The leg that sticks out some has just been pulled down too far out of the upper leg portion ( the bit inside the thigh ). All you need to do is pull off the thigh vinyl to get to the part where the two parts meet. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the frame parts, making them easier to slide in and out. Just push the lower leg into the upper leg and you'll be good to go. You may have to spin the parts around a little to get them to pull apart or push back together. As for that leg opening, it looks like someone cut the original one to make it bend more or get more movement out of it. You can use an X-Acto knife or small scissors to trim it up a bit so it doesn't look so much like a huge gash, just take your time with it. The elbow thing is easy to fix. Someone just turned it 180 out of it's proper location. Spin the forearm 180 degrees around and you'll have it where it's supposed to be. You may have to slide the forearm vinyl around a little in order to have it look right but that's easy too. Pull out the entire wrist joint ( use the hair dryer or heat gun to make it super easy ) and then spin the vinyl forearm bit around til it lines up like you want. Nice and simple! galatia9 Posted May 10, 2017 compared to my DDIII girl: Also....is it just me, or are the outer skin parts totally different?? Anyone know if the one is just modded or if it's from another body or something? Can I maybe mod the weird one to match the top of the normal one? It looks to me like the vinyl calf on the right is from a DDIII, and the calf on the left is from a DDII. I just compared my DDII and DDIII girls' knees, and the rounded groove in the front of the knee is cut lower on the DDII. Like Billy said, it looks like the DDIII calf was cut in the back to give more range of movement, or to make it fit better on the DDII skeleton. DDII elbows can bend almost as much as DDIII elbows, but the inner skeleton has to be pulled out, and it doesn't look natural. It slides out, and can be difficult to move because a plastic corner gets caught on the vinyl hole of the upper arm. It helps if you warm up the vinyl with your hand for a while. Akai Okami Posted May 10, 2017 Thanks for all the info! You guys are the best! Ok, I'll start with the easy fix that made me facepalm SO hard: the arms. They were just on the wrong sides! I just unplugged them at the shoulder and swapped them, then twisted them and put the correct hands on and...perfect! No wonder I couldn't get the vinyl to line up right before. Now the..not so easy fix. I was too chicken to pull her thigh part totally apart, but I got it far enough to see this: Ok, so I'm pretty sure if I ever want to fix this I will need a replacement part. lol The screw just pulls out and would need to be replaced with a slightly longer one and a washer thing to hold it tight. There is hot glue in there for some reason and I don't know what happened to the peg above it but haha..nope. Not dealing with that. Instead I just cut the vinyl shell on the top of her shin/knee part to match the DDII side and now she can straighten her leg JUST fine. So happy! That leg is a bit longer than the other one, but she can stand and pose just fine so I don't care. The body is otherwise very nice and now that it's working I quite like it! I never knew about the secret elbow. o.o So cool! I feel like I leveled up after all this! And now I can love my new girl properly! ♥ (and Yoko would like to say 'Ta-da! I helped too!' >w< )
galatia9 Posted May 10, 2017 Awww! Your new girl looks so happy!! Looks like someone did some homemade patching up on her, but I'm glad she's doing much better. Congratulations!! Most of my dolls are customs I put together myself, and a lot of the pieces were second hand. It's rewarding making new dolls out of them! baldylox Posted May 10, 2017 Yay! I'm so glad you got things figured out! That leg issue is way out there huh? Looks like someone else had an issue with it, tried to fix it and didn't do it right so they gave up. That area with the hot glue should not be pulled out like that, it should seat flush against the lower part. That's where your length/height issues are coming from. But since you did the other fix and it's fine with you then hooray! It's sometimes scary to take our little girls apart but trust me, once you've done it, it becomes much easier to do again and it makes sense to try and repair our girls instead of just tossing out cash to fix it. I've done so many types of repairs to my girls over the years, I just can't count. Again, congrats on getting her all fixed up! She certainly looks happy to be ready to roll!
