baldylox Posted May 24, 2017 Ok, time to finish off Day 7 at Skytree! After going up the tower and seeing the sights, we headed back down for some random shopping. The first thing we saw in the Tokyu Hands store inside the Skytree Village was our good friend PPAP! Here's Ed dancing with him. 106 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Around the corner from there was a photo area where large groups of visitors could get together for pics. 107 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr This cool map showed all the tall towers of the world..... with Skytree leading the way as the tallest! 108 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Time for lunch! Ed and I did curry in the mall food court. 109 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Mine was extremely good. 110 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr I finally found those owl backpacks and purses for sale! Too bad they cost over $400 for the medium sized ones! 111 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Back outside. 112 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 113 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr At the train station. 114 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 116 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 117 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr A rare glimpse of an almost empty train. 115 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr We headed over to Harajuku to visit the big shrine there. I really like Harajuku because of the huge amount of stores, the crazy crowds and the cool stuff to look at. 118 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 119 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 120 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Wow, they have dirty street beggars/artists here too! LOL This guy was playing that metal drum thing and it was really neat sounding. 121 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Heading into the Meiji Shrine. 122 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr That is one BIG torii! 123 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 124 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 125 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr These were casks of rice used at the temple to make sake as offerings. That's a lot of rice! 126 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr And here are barrels of donated wine waiting to be used at the shrine. 127 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 128 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr This torii was even bigger than the last one! 129 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Ahh, that's why. 130 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr We finally reach the actual temple. 131 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 132 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 133 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Copper shingles! 134 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Selling charms. 135 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr There was a traditional Shinto style wedding happening while we were there. I didn't have my telephoto lens with me so I couldn't get any close photos of them. 136 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 137 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr I just love the craftsmanship of wooden doors and things inside these temples. 138 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 139 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 140 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr The decorative lamps were also very cool looking. 141 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 142 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 146 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 147 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Prayer boards under a huge tree. 143 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 144 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 145 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 148 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 150 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 151 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Everytime I see these on trees, I think of Inuyasha. 154 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 155 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 156 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Walking back towards the busy side of the train tracks we saw a bunch of doves in the wooded area near the tracks. They showed no fear of us at all.... this one was about 4 feet away from me. 157 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr On the way to the main street to do some shopping! 158 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Takesh-ita Street! A literal sea of humanity. 159 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Awww yeah! Another huge Daisho store! Of course we went in looking for goodies. 161 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr We found a candy bar named after me in there. 162 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Thinking back on it, I really should have bought these. Fake boobs! 163 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr You can't go to Harajuku and NOT eat crepes right? So it was over to the big crepe store next. 164 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 165 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr We got one with strawberries and chocolate and whipped crème. I think I got 2 bites of it. 166 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr It was insanely crowded out there. 167 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr But we were able to find another stretched penny machine inside the Sanrio Store! 170 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 168 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Back into the crazy.... 169 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr It's hard to see but there's a big Homer Simpson up there on the 2nd floor. 171 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr This store had an insane looking entrance full of metal and mirrors. 172 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 173 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 175 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr And yes, this store sells what you think they sell. LOTS OF THEM. 174 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 176 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 177 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Inside the big toy store Kiddy Land, we found a Snoopy themed penny machine! 178 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr They also had a bunch of these dolls. 179 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr I have NO idea what this delivery bike was supposed to be dressed up as but it was hilarious. 180 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Back at the train station. 181 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 182 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr After getting back to the apartment and getting ourselves settled, we ventured back out to find some nearby doll stores. The first one we went to was less than 2 blocks away from where we stayed! This is the outside of the Dolk store. 183 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr After spending some dough in there, we walked a bit further and found the Dollce store. 184 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr They had a bunch of the full silicone dolls on display in the window. 185 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Know this tho, if you go to the Dollce store, take lots of cash because they do NOT accept anything but cash. Anyways, after that we decided to get some food. We were in a different area of Akihabara than we were used to so we didn't know what was around. Luckily we found one of those places where you cook meat at your table! I got a beer to go with my meat. 186 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Mmm.... bacon. Thick cut and super good. 187 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr 188 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Beef liver. This was extremely good too. 189 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr But by far, the best meat I got was this duck. It was buttery, gamey and just excellent! 190 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Skirt steak bits! 191 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr This place was up on the 2nd floor and TINY. It only sat 12 people at a time! But the food was amazing and we had a great time there too. 192 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr Here's our table top grill and vent hood. 193 by Billy Bennett, on Flickr And that's it for now! We did go back out to see Shibuya at night but there's a lot of pics and some video of that so it'll go into the next post. Thanks for looking! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Eiko82 Posted June 27, 2017 Meiji Shrine!! It's such a beautiful, peaceful area. I love it. It amuses me to no end how everyone I know who visits it, always mentions that there is a Shinto wedding going on. baldylox Posted June 27, 2017 Meiji Shrine!! It's such a beautiful, peaceful area. I love it. Oh yeah, I'd never been there even tho I was *right there* the last time I went to Harajuku. I enjoyed it as well even tho it was friggin packed with people. It amuses me to no end how everyone I know who visits it, always mentions that there is a Shinto wedding going on. Ha! The funny thing is, our friend Ed that was with us said that the last time HE was there..... there was a Shinto wedding going on. I think it's some sort of conspiracy! Maybe they just have the same people acting like they're getting married..... over and over and over and..... Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. youth Posted August 27, 2017 Ok, time to finish off Day 7 at Skytree! After getting back to the apartment and getting ourselves settled, we ventured back out to find some nearby doll stores. Just noticed this doll shop by accident 2nd day here after taking a wrong street walking back from a conbini. Seems like it's on the wrong side of the river. What is good to buy there for a DD? Dolls weren't the purpose of my trip (Animelo & Magical Mirai concerts are), but as long as I'm here might as well see what's available. And the Smart Doll for 38,000 yen if you assemble in store is enticing too.
