Doll Point ‘Build-a-DD’: Dream Choice!

I've got a question now for those of us outside of Japan.  VolksUSA recently posted a noticed on their Facebook.

IDK, on the one hand the SD version is more "exclusive" and probably has more scalper/recaster problems, but on the other hand I wouldn't put it past them.

...I'm kind of annoyed at this. Semi-annual online global FCS releases like what Volks USA does, for SD and DD, would cut back on people using proxies a lot more. I feel like this is mostly going to hurt the legit proxies who just want to help people get dolls more than the scalpers and recasters they're trying to target.   

The first line under nefarious acts includes this:

Demanding high fees (money or points) for "proxy orders" on online shopping sites, social networking sites, etc.

Legit proxies likely aren't doing this and shouldn't be worried. Charging transportation costs and for time is one thing, but I've seen secondhand Super Dollfies going for well over the original price. It's also much easier to run into a fake SD than a DD, which is a longtime problem for VOLKS.

While I would love an online version of Dream Choice, I can see why VOLKS does it this way currently. Sharing a special bond with your doll is a big part of their branding. Getting to choose everything in person makes it very personal experience. In the future if there's a way for them to organize it like the USA SD/MSD choice preorders, maybe they will?

Point 1 does seem like it could refer to a certain proxy that rhymes with Japan Hole Elect, because I am constantly amazed at what the community allows them to get away with and the money that guy is making off of the enterprise is a little offputting to me….(especially for things that literally don’t need proxies like dollyterria…charging a ‘I press the button for you’ fee???) but I’ve already complained about their practices on this forum before.

That said SD Full Choice and Dream Choice are extremely different. Full Choice is a much more intensive process that takes months to fulfill (hence needing to be in Japan for ordering and pickup) with parts made to order, whereas Dream Choice can be done quickly enough with in stock ready made parts that you can walk in and out with your doll in half an hour or so. From what I have seen, Dream Choice does not have a reselling problem (other than proxies making a huge profit, which I can understand being irksome to Volks…especially because they’d be raking in the VS points like nobody’s business). Volks are usually pretty clear on what they’re referring to with notices like this so the fact that it’s only mentioned SD Full Choice says to me that Dream Choice proxy is a non issue for them (or at least a grey area)….at present. (For all I know there will be a post specifically about Dream Choice next week)

I don’t want to get into a discussion about the ethics of proxies (especially them being treated like unofficial ‘businesses’) because it really is the only way so many people here can get a Dream Choice, especially in the Covid age. So I once again would really appreciate if Volks could address the issue with allowing a limited preorder for GL members (or the int store in general - it’s not like everyone in Japan can get to Akiba or Osaka either, also especially in covid age which many of the Japanese users have pointed out in response to that tweet) once or twice a year. That way there’s a way to get them but it’s still limited enough to hopefully keep the service being overwhelmed. I’m also speaking for myself here but I for one would not mind at all if an online order system required you to wait (ie few months or more) for shipment if it requires time to fulfill so many orders.

Agreed.  As someone who has waited almost an entire calendar year for BJDs in the past, I would not in any way be bothered by having to wait even 3 or 4 months for a Dream Choice Dollfie.  They could open Dream Choice orders for a limited time period just like SD Full Choice, and have a minimum wait period of 3 months.  Even if they limited it to one Dream Choice order per account, and only offered it once a year (so long as they offered both Tan AND Semi-White during it), I think we'd all be more than happy to wait.

I would assume a wait, especially if they opened it up to worldwide instead of just one country like the Volks USA online FCS. 

Perhaps also worth noting that in a dream choice context, their threats about service and maintenance aren’t really a concern - the warranty on a dream choice isn’t very long and then after that, it’s on you to replace parts etc. - the fcs, when you take it to dollpa and Kyoto etc. they can help you with restringing, sanding etc. and offer special parts only to owners (which far as I can tell hasn’t happened with dream choice yet)

Model list for clothing modelled in the new Volks News reveals there are at least 3 (although possibly 4) new Dream Choice head, 23, 24 and 26. (25 may be there too, just not showing new outfits?)

24 definitely looks like DWC2 with a mouth to me, and it looks like a lot of people got their wish for new boy heads!

Man, I love DCH-24 and DCH-26 so much. Finally, a MATURE boy's head! I'm super happy. And 24 reminds me a lot of Kaede, which is good.

I’m gonna have to wait to see customs for my thoughts on 26. I’ve been wanting a DD head with smaller eyes for AGES, and I don’t wanna look a gift horse in the mouth, but they seem...too small, almost? To the point of being slightly uncanny. Even the faceup lines are done to make the eyes look bigger so there’s that weird gap between the edge of the eye hole and the line...so why weren’t eyes that big to begin with? But I hope that’s just this picture and the impression in owner pics and customs is a lot different. I’m really hoping my opinion does a 180 once I see the ones people order.

23 also reminds me a lot of Kizuna Ai! It’s a really cute head.

That whole middle section definitely has Olympic cheering vibes (which makes you wonder if they had to scramble clothing releases a year ago)

I love 26's face!! I'm very interested in the Type X eyes he's wearing, it says they're limited to Doricho? Is that the city one of the Volks stores is in, or the name of an event?

edit: oh my gosh lol. it says Dream Choice limited, Doricho is just the abbreviation translated directly. That solves that!

I didn't think I'd be so excited over new heads, but here I am. I'm very curious about 26 and I'm thinking of going for him if I can't secure a 9S sometime in the future (I'm not saying they're similar, they're just both my type).

But I'd like to see some owner pictures first to say for sure. I share @Monty's sentiment that the eyes might be a tad too small? It's hard to tell from this one picture.

aren't there more pics of DCH-25? I want to see him from the front. He looks so cute and reminds me of 9s with a smile

If I get DCH-26 by the end of the year like I'm planning, I might give him a "BJD" face up, I gave one "BJD" face up to my 9S when I had no idea who he was and he looked ok-ish, here he is in case you want to see 9s with a BJD face up, it was night so the quality is not so good but it is the only pic I took, I removed it the next day. He has different face up now but I haven't taken pics yet because I'm waiting on his eyes and wig. I remember when I was giving him that face up that I wished he had smaller eyes so 26 is perfect for me! I love the fact that he has small eyes and I think he will look great with a BJD face up even though I like a lot the current anime face ups Volks gave him.

I'm really loving the new male sculpts! I can see them as female sculpts too, the ones who are more mature. My crew is full of super big eyed sculpts so these new ones with small eyes are very refreshing

This is so exciting, I love 26! If I ever get my hands on that one I'd be stuck forever because I'd have so many ideas on how/what to do them up as. For some reason the eyes do look a little strange to me, probably just because I'm not used to seeing smaller eyes on a DD head, either that or the color is too blended and I can't see much detail within the eye itself 

I adore 24 as well, the photo they shared in the link gives me major Kaguya-sama vibes. I've had the Luka head in my wishlist forever because the way her mouth opens is so cute to me so this head makes me so happy

These new additions make me very happy. It really shows Volks' commitment to Dream Choice, adding 4 new sculpts, and a third makeup option for DCH-20! I'm also pleasantly surprised that DCH-25 is not D'COORD-limited, as I thought it might be.

It makes me really happy too  all these new sculpts are amazing

Where did you see a 25? :0 I only saw 23, 24, and 26, so if you know somewhere where they’ve shown pictures of the 25 I’d love to see it!
