Doll Point ‘Build-a-DD’: Dream Choice!

I thought we really lacked a database of the different heads and make-up available at Dream Choice, so I saved Volks pictures I could find and created a blog to list all the the Dream Choice System make-ups, as well as the exclusive D'Coord (DDH 11, 15 and 18)! It took some time but I am very happy with the result, I hope it will be useful! Sometimes I'm not sure so I indicated "(?)" and some are missing, I couldn't find examples for every head/make-up. Please remember that there could be some mistakes. I also mentioned the exclusive D'Coord make-ups. I have put only official Volks photos, so all the styling (eyes, wig, outfits) are 100% Volks (I just also posted my Dream Choice DCH03 as an additional example because in the photo she also has a 100% Volks styling). So that gives you examples of styling combinations!

I think this is a great reference. 

I have a suggestion for a bit of additional info to go with how you have listed which makeup styles are discontinued. A number of Volks eye types are also discontinued, at least for sales; I do not know for certain if any of these are still being offered with Dream Choice or D'Coord. Types A through E are discontinued for some unknown (to me) time, and Types G, H, M, and P were discontuned on October 31, 2018, reference below the chart on this page:

Does this mean volks discontinue the head completely, even on online shops?

Ah perfect, thanks, I was on the japanese version of this page and the picture for type T doesn't even show 😅 All types were on Dream Choice when I came in June 2018. I'll update the blog

According to the standard model listing on Dollfie Dream site, I think so:

Aoi 2nd version (DDH02) is in this "discontinued models" list. It's the end for the old standard models line!

But maybe she will have a new line of make-up in the Dream Choice, that's the only hope! I don't know if she will be totally discontinued.

So far, I don't believe there is any indication that DDH-02 or others are being discontinued as a standard bare head. I could see it eventually happening though if Volks eventually makes more of those Dream Choice and D'Coord exclusive sculpts available as standard heads, because then the selection would start becoming quite large. Anecdotally, DDH-02 doesn't seem that popular anymore at least in terms of what I see in terms of customs dolls.

Just to be more precise, as I think not everybody is familiar with this and I may have been unclear: I was referring to the "standard models", those who has a name (Rena, Aoi, Yukino...), not the blank heads (DDH). These heads had their counterpart in DCS, for example:

• Aoi 2nd is DDH02 blank sculpt and was DCH02 Make-Up 02

• Yukino is DDH03 blank head and was DCH03 Make-Up 01

These standard girls with names and their counterpart in DCS are discontinued (Yukino and DCH03 MU 01, etc.), not their blank DDH. Blank heads and Dream Choice heads with another make-up than the "standard model make-up" are still safe, except for Aoi 2nd, not only her standard make-up is discontinued but all of them. This leaves us with some guesses for this 02 head:

• she will only be available as a blank head (DDH02)

• she will have new make-ups in DCS (DCH02) and still be available as blank DDH02

• she will disappear forever as DDH02 and DCH02 (we are only sure about Aoi 2nd)

As cfx mentionned, she is not as popular anymore. She was one of the oldest DD.

Now, the new standard models line doesn't have their counterpart as DCH (Liliru, Towa, Karin, Coron...) or as blank DDH. It's easier I think!

I was pretty sure that was the points you were making and didn't intend to add to any confusion. One of @atrika's questions suggested to me there was also a question about the blank heads, and I do wonder if some of those might go away eventually too.

While I don't know if this is intentional or just because they are replacing older standard models with new ones, I also noticed that the standards are all becoming unique head molds that aren't available otherwise. To add to that, the two standard models that they kept and have made f3 versions of, Mirai and Candy, are a unique sculpt that doesn't exist otherwise.

I think that brings up another set of possibilities. I think many of us here have assumed at least some of the Dream Choice and D'Coord exclusive heads would eventually become standard blank heads, in the same way DDH-09 and a couple of others have after a certain amount of time. With the standard doll line changing to unique heads, and with as many of the Dream Choice and D'Coord heads that are unique now, I could also see Volks going in the other direction, eliminating head mold overlap where each thing has its own unique styles, with little or possibly even no overlap. Well we never know what the future holds.

Oooh, I am so completely smitten with DCH-17, especially with M-01. Her eyes, her smile...I just absolutely adore them. I am a long, long ways off from being able to afford another doll, but this sculpt has shot to the top of my must-have list. DCH-18 shows a lot of promise, too.

Thank you for the blog - and others for answering my questions previously.  It'd be great if wig colors/styles or eye colors/styles could also be added at some point.

This is such a great resource, and not just for Dream Choice.  It's really interesting to see how different each head can look with a different face-up.

hey, does anybody know what time of the year the tan skin is available through dream choice? may or may not be planning a trip to japan and want to at least have some idea what will be available when we go. thanks!🐵

Tan season starts April 1st and finishes September 30th. Semiwhite starts October 1st and finishes March 31st, and Flesh of course is all year. This is only for Dream Choice though, as DCoords and parts in tan/semiwhite are available all year as well - but that only helps you if a) the head you want is available in the DCoord range and b)you're lucky enough to have an available model using it when you visit.
If you want to get a tan DD on a Japan trip and are planning around that I would personally recommend April. If its early April you may get the chance to see cherry blossoms, and if its late April you may get to attend one of the two main Dolpa events of the year in Tokyo (this Dolpa is actually usually in early May, but recently its changed to April and will be April again next year  - the other main one is in December). This is mainly because I advise anyone against visiting Japan in summer unless you either stay in Hokkaido the whole time or have a very, very high tolerance for humidty. (There is August Dolpa, though, although its smaller than the Tokyo versions)

@Monty thanks for the heads up! april was definitely my first choice to try and catch the cherry blossoms. and now that you mention it, i have always wanted to go to a japanese dolpa......

My only warning about April/May Dolpa is that it falls during Golden Week either way - a cluster of Japanese public holidays. It might not be an issue if your motivation is to see cherry blossoms and thus come earlier (although by late April the blooms in most but the northern parts will likely have ended), but GW is one of the busiest domestic tourism times in Japan and so it gets far busier than normal. I’ve been to Tokyo several times during GW (usually because it was my only option while I was living there because the cluster of public holidays is most convenient for taking a trip somewhere) so I got used to it, but there is a chance that Dream Choice slots for the day could fill up faster. If Dolpa is late April it’s the beginning of GW, and if it’s early May it’s the end, so if you want to avoid the crowds you could time the trip to end right after Dolpa - it’s actually very convenient that it’s at the beginning of GW next year and not the end, so you don’t have much reason to stay after and through GW...unless of course you want the chance to attend Comiket, which is usually in Summer but has been moved to early may for next year only due to the Olympics.

(But, because of this rare chance to do Comiket and Dolpa within a week of each other, I am expecting an increase in both domestic and foreign tourists)

Newly opened Dollpoint Osaka had shown the new MDD heads, and the optional part of elf ears

 

Are they using DDP hands on her? or is it Deka version for MDD?

Ooooh my goooooooodddd those head sculpts are so CUTE!! And those elf ears! I had just ordered elf ears from taobao lol. Guessing elf ears will be dream choice limited? 🤔 

Also the first picture is the new MDD body right? Looks cuuutee too~ 😄
