Kushina Posted June 19, 2017 I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask about her (Sorry, if thats not the case Billy >__<"), but I was hoping to get some advice from the face-up artists around here. As the thread title already says: Can this Ebony be saved? (Her original face-up?) I bought her on Ebay and was really shocked when she arrived. The seller told me, she used a spray to protect the face-up, but it actually looks like the opposite... It doesn't look so bad on the pictures, but her whole face is shiny/wet-looking and she has dark spots around her eyes and nose. Its really sticky too... >__<" I fear I can't save her face-up, but I wanted to ask before I try anything T__T I'm thankful for every advice you have T_T Dollfie Family: DD Emilia - DD Mashiro Mito (Custom) - DD Asuna Titania - DDdy Sasara - DD Kirika - DDH16 Tan - DD Rin Tohsaka
DistortedDiva Posted June 19, 2017 I have encountered that if you over-spray a head with sealant, it gets sticky after a couple of days and lint and other stuff gets stuck on it... I had to remove my girls faceup, and use the sealant more sparingly.
Shailara Posted June 19, 2017 About the shine-ness, it should be fixable if you spray over. They probably didn't know what they were doing and sprayed from REALLY close to the face, hence the look of wetness. The dark spots ... if you tried a magic eraser and they did not get erased, they are probably sealed in / happened before the spray was dry, so not fixable... Freyacchi Posted June 19, 2017 Oh poor girl....it looks like it bubbled and even if you spray it over you won't get nice smooth finish but rather patchy appearance..sorry you bought the doll in such state.. Yukamina Posted June 19, 2017 Possibly rubbing alcohol would remove the spray but not the paint, if Smart Doll face-ups are as hard to remove as the DD default face-ups I've attempted in the past. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
Poofiemus Posted June 20, 2017 Possibly rubbing alcohol would remove the spray but not the paint, if Smart Doll face-ups are as hard to remove as the DD default face-ups I've attempted in the past. Seconding this; custom faceups that are sealed with spray come off with rubbing alcohol, but Miku's factory faceup would not come off with anything less than acetone. This will probably dissolve the glue holding the lashes in place, though, so you should probably plan on just taking those out and re-gluing them. Kushina Posted June 20, 2017 Thanks for all your advices! I removed her eyelashes yesterday and parts of her face-up were already gone (the dark spots are not dirt, its her face-up thats all over the place) Don't really know what spray she used, but the only thing that actually was able to remove it was aceton and there are still some parts I have to clean again and again xD" So in the end I decided to wipe her face off completly, there was no reason, trying to save her already damaged face-up *sigh* Thanks again everyone T_T Dollfie Family: DD Emilia - DD Mashiro Mito (Custom) - DD Asuna Titania - DDdy Sasara - DD Kirika - DDH16 Tan - DD Rin Tohsaka
Poofiemus Posted June 20, 2017 Oh, no, I'm so sorry! That sucks. Are you going to try to give her a new one yourself, or send her out? In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
Kushina Posted June 20, 2017 Oh, no, I'm so sorry! That sucks. Are you going to try to give her a new one yourself, or send her out? I would love to send her to someone, but I used my savings to get her. The seller already told me "I'm not at fault. The post van was probably to warm, thats why the sealing is sticky", "you got her for a good price, so what do you want?" and "You can change her now, in whatever you want, be happy about that" I done with her and her husbund at this point... he told me he is building modelkit and knows what he is doing, but seriously... I never saw anything like that and I got parcels on hotter days. (and I was building Modelkit for over ten years myself...) It also doesn't explain why the face-up under the sealing is all over the place, but not on the fabric she used to wrap her face... *sigh* I have the materials to do a face-up on my own, I was always too scared to do it though. Now is probably the best time to try it I guess. Shailara Posted June 20, 2017 Well, we greeks have a saying that goes kinda like 'Every obstacle (exists) for a reason'... sucks to have such sellers, but it's good you have the materials to do it T_T)9 I would offer to do it for free, but you would prefer someone of better level than me, I'm not very experienced with DD face-ups ahaha! Good luck with your face-up! (\_/) ( ' .' ) ( uu)

Mario Posted June 20, 2017 What in the world did they use? This looks like they used an incorrect sealant or they spray wayyy too close to the face. I have done many faceups, and I have NEVER had an issue like this happen, even with California heatwaves. It almost looks like they used a brush on sealant(usually because brush-in sealents tend to look tacky/sticky and wet on vinyl) instead of MSC/ZM spray or alike. Also there is absolutely 0 need to spray more sealant when shipping a doll, they could of just wrapped it in plenty of bubble wrap or buy a face protector. If you bought it on ebay you can still dispute it. But if you got her really cheap might as well just wipe it and make your own faceup. This doesn't look like it can be saved :/ I am not sure if alcohol will fix it, you can still try a small amount of alcohol on a small area.
Kushina Posted June 20, 2017 Oooh, good luck! Are you going to keep to the original style/feel, or go for something drastically different? To be honest: I don't have any idea xD" I will probably try something more femine, but as long I can actually make something that doesn't look bad I'm happy ^^" If you bought it on ebay you can still dispute it. But if you got her really cheap might as well just wipe it and make your own faceup. I hate to fight with someone, so I don't really want to open a dispute *sigh* I got her for 399€ with extra hands, another pair of eyes and clothes. So the price is fine. I'm just disappointed (I was really looking forward to her) and no money can help me there Dollfie Family: DD Emilia - DD Mashiro Mito (Custom) - DD Asuna Titania - DDdy Sasara - DD Kirika - DDH16 Tan - DD Rin Tohsaka

Sometimes that's good--it's what happened when I painted Abby, because I was tired of her just sitting around as a head in a jar. Hopefully she'll "tell" you what she wants to be during the process. baldylox Posted June 22, 2017 Awww! I love this whole story! Seeing what she looked like when she arrived compared to now is awesome. You really gave this girl a whole new lease on life and I think you did a great job on her. Now she's a one of a kind and completely personalized. Congrats! Seeing stuff like this always makes my day. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
vengez Posted June 24, 2017 Wow I am so sorry! The seller and her hubby sound just rude! Model kits are not DDs or even close. She basically ruined your default face up (which I assume you wanted or you maybe would have just gone for a blank girl at a cheaper price..) I am doubting they are collectors - everyone knows dolls do not need sealed and I have a feeling that the seller may have seen the flaws in person and they got worse. While I agree heat could cause bubbling, which usually happens during the doll right after initial sealing, the heat did not ruin this doll alone. I live in AZ and have gotten both vinyl and resin in the middle of the summer! I am talking one baking in an all metal mailbox to the point I could smell the vinyl THROUGH the box on a secondhand doll. I also had a DD sitting in an all metal mail truck from around 7 AM until 3 PM when she was delivered. She was hard cap type and I easily could smoosh her in my hands, pop off her headcap and hot glue eyes with just my hands. Neither dolls makeup had even a flake of bubbling on these days when our summers are easily over 110° F on any day. I am glad you got the dollie you wanted but I really wish it was in a better way. I can't stand bad sellers... Ugh. I love that new look you did! She is so beautiful and unique than ever before with her new make up! ^^ It is like she has overcome a journey Home filled with princesses~! ♡ ♡
missadventure364 Posted July 6, 2017 Honestly as a long time seller on eBay I hate to say this, but I've been scammed enough times for selling items that actually are in as described condition that I think it's fair to post. Ebay and Paypal always side with the buyer, no matter what. If you bought the doll brand new, removed the face up and decided you didn't want her anymore they would still require the seller to take her back and refund all of your money. I've sold many new items and had things similar to that happen - even though they say that's not how their policy works. With their system, it's completely buyer oriented.. meaning a buyer can not lose in any situation. Obviously this is a bit of a different situation where you were the one wronged by the seller. I don't think you should have to put up with someone so badly miss-describing a doll after destroying her face up. I would be so angry! Sorry for the rant, honestly seeing this probably makes me more upset at the seller for you than you may be yourself. Knowing how eBay really works this kind of thing makes me really angry. It sounds like you already have new plans for her and I'm happy for you for that, but I do think the seller should give you at least a partial refund to help pay for a new faceup if she sold the doll under the terms of having a faceup, or accept a return- regardless of how much you spent. I'm not big on partial returns either, but it sounds like she really took advantage of any potential buyer and that is not okay! You shouldn't have to be paying any more than you would for a blank doll head and body in that condition. EDIT - completely missed the second page earlier! She looks very cute! I hope you're still happy with her, and I'm sorry this happened to you. It must've been incredibly disappointing receiving her that way, but she looks so much better now!
