This is a thread for all my Smart Doll-related shenanigans! It was originally just a Merope thread, since she was the only SmD around, but things happened ...

A new challenger arrives to Kalle's house!!

 

 

Her full name is Merope Dellamitria Cocoron, and she's a magical girl who catches people’s bad dreams – both to help them sleep better at night, and to give to her boss Nemuri so she can eat them. Unfortunately she's in powered-down mode ( read: I don't have her eyes here or her wig ordered yet ) so she's gotta rely on the kindness of her new friends for the time being!

 

 

Right now she's wearing an outfit I intended to give to Nozomi, but I'm really digging how it looks on her...

I need to make her full magical girl ensemble soon, though!

 

 

I mean, how could you say no to that face??

Cute fam! Magical girls are always awesome, and Merope sounds pretty interesting~ Really wondering about what type of outfit and look you have planned for her.

Saturday night binge watching.

What a sweet face! She looks good in loose, flowy outfits too. Kinda suits a spooky magical girl, y'know?

A bit of a backstory: Merope was a gift to me from my boyfriend's (Redwizard) mom -- as she collects antique dolls and knits clothes for them herself, she was really enthusiastic about us getting heavily into the hobby and wanted me to have my own collection like he does.

This week, she was admitted to the hospital and today we got some news that's going to have us on edge and worried for the rest of the week.

 

But Merope has been reaching out to me... in a sense.

 

 

I just have to keep telling myself that his mom will be okay, because she has to get better and see Mer's new wig and dress when they arrive! And really, playing around with her makes me feel a little bit calmer. Without her and my other girls around to distract me, I'd probably still be wallowing in my own little pool of worriment right about now.

 

 

(Meanwhile, Ellspeth is in the background screaming 'WHY IS SHE WEARING MY CLOTHES?!')

My best wishes for her speedy recovery. I'm glad Merope can give you some comfort. Dolls and miniatures are pretty remarkable in their ability to do that.

Perhaps you could find some small-blossomed silk flowers in the florist section of a craft store, trim the stems and arrange them, and tie them with a little ribbon to make a doll's bouquet? I imagine that as a doll-items-crafter herself, something like that could make her smile.

Sorry for the lack of response, folks! The past few days have been kinda hectic, both with BF's mom and my job.

 

I took Mer to the hospital on Thursday morning (so, I ended up missing Ie-Aster's suggestion, sorry! :c) to visit, and y'all were right -- it pretty much made her day. She was cooing over Mer and fussing with her and posing her, all giddy like on Christmas morning. It made me smile. c:

The nurses absolutely adored her, too -- for a moment she got kidnapped for some photo ops on the desks and bench!

 

I didn't take too many photos, since I didn't know what would be right to post in a situation like this, but I at least have a couple to share~

I got these wigs from Nine9 Style -- both are the L-1078 style in Sweet Milk and Mild Black.

The white one will be Merope's hair when she's transformed into magical girl mode (still waiting on the eyes and dress!) and the black one will be her 'civilian' hair. Of course, there's also the side effect of making her look like Satori's long-lost twin...

I love the black wig, such a cute cut!

So I had a big fat Taobao order from Spreenow arrive this past week with goodies -- one of which being Merope's new eyes! Now I can't decide whether or not to keep these as her eyes in and out of magical girl form (because I'd envisioned her having green eyes when not transformed, but that blutac was a PAIN to deal with when putting the new peepers in...)

 

'scuse the phone posts, I tried to make them board-friendly and look nice but they wouldn't cooperate. There are better versions of them here~

 

 

 

Neat little detail I added to the back of the jacket, a patch from Etsy that was the perfect size ♥

I got a Noivern kigurumi from someone on the SmD Facebook group and Merope was the first to try it out. It's not her style, but ...

 

M: "Bwaaaa! I'm a spooky bat and I'm gonna eat all the fruit in the house!"

SHE'S SO CUTE IN IT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

 

"Flying around and eating fruit gets tiring after a while, though..."

Your dye experiment looks super good and I love how you marked your dye pot lmao Did you get any uneven patches? How did RIT dyemore work on the joints? My dye project has been stalled for a long time but I’ve been wanting to continue it again recently. xD

Thank you! ♥ Unfortunately I don't, the owner was selling them secondhand herself and all she said was she didn't make them (to the chagrin of my BF who wanted an Espurr one.)

 

Surprisingly the only uneven patch I got was across the chest, but it's serendipitous because he's kind of an intergalactic being so I can pass it off as being a nebula. xD Sadly the joints didn't take the dye as well as the soft vinyl, so I'll have to figure out methods to match those, but I ALSO have options to cover them up within his wardrobe so we'll see! I'll post more pictures when I can. :3

That's a super impressive mod! The character concept you have for him is also very cool, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the customization continues.

I googled a little and found them! I think! (there can't be too many pokemon kigurumi for dolls right?)
